Happy Christmas everyone. With the amount of work required on this and the Ivy project, I don't have the time necessary to do all the fancy editing, but I hope you can still enjoy a lengthy update from the past nearly 8 months with this car. Looking forward to your comments below :) See you in the new year!

Hello David, Like all the Volvo fans that are drawn to your site to see what project is happening, we are continuously blown away by what you undertake and accomplish, hurdles, bumps and all. All while videoing, calmly explaining with great detail plus great music along the way.
This adventurous 164 EV is probably my favourite of your videos to date as it is my dream project for my '90 145.
Thank you for all what you do with these cars it is truly most inspiring and encouraging for us all.
All the best for 2023.
Sad to see another one of these rare classics destroyed
I have just watched an amazing video, David, your talents are endless, your approach and dedication is admirable, then your filming and explanations are what make your videos very watchable. Your voice is soothing and unpanicked which adds to the viewers enjoyment. Last but not least you are doing it all with Volvos. Love your work David 🙂
Thank you for being one of the few car UA-camrs who trap all of their power washing schmutz instead of letting it go into the rivers. There are so many "take it outside and blast it with a hose" folks on here.
Yeah that' s decently wild. You have never heard of us. We make 600hp redblocks in Texas. Neat stuff Volfam. It's liked a beautiful baked potato nest in there!
Congratulation and good luck with the ev converse. I converted my Amazon estate 1967 for about 30 years ago.And it still
works without any problems.Changed batteries about 10 times.Nowadays I got about 115 kwh battery from different crashed cars,
Nissan,Opel and Mg.44kwh in the car and 70 kwh on a wagon behind if I go for longer distances, over 430 miles in one charge. It took me 30 years to reach that distance. The ev motor is the same as 30 years ago.
Really enjoying watching your videos. We had 4 Volvos in the family when we were kids in the 70's, I have 2 at the moment and my brother has 4. No particular bias, they're just good cars.
Our local sound deadening supplies recommend using additional adhesive rated for 120C when attaching it to the roof. Additionally, they supply the mass loaded vinyl with the heavy foam, just like the OEM stuff. Good suff.
I was thinking I was gonna do sound deadening on my 245. Now I realize I’m way too lazy to do it. It’s quiet enough.. Great content as always. Can’t wait to see this project progress!
Great to have met you in person (My Wife and I were dressed for Christmas) at the Coffee and Cars-Christmas edition.
Great stuff. Looking forward to next video on this vehicle.
Proud Swedish build perfect car.
Yes, we used to build great cars😃
I am so proud of you swedish I also Volvo engineering in Nigeria I want to upgrade myself from you side please just consider me
Nice job
This is fantastic - I have a 73 '164 and am watching and learning along with you. I've always wanted to do an EV swap on Volvo, so I'm taking notes! Starting with an EV West kit is a great idea. Now that EV West has scanned the bell housing of the manual transmission (which I would think is the same as the Auto trans) I bet they can make more adpaters easily - good for the rest of us!
dont destroy your car for nonsense like this. pick some other more common volvo model for that. 240 series for example.
Where is part2?
This is going to be amazing! Gorgeous car, can't wait to see how it ends up. Wish this was feasible to do to an old Volvo where I live.
Bro. The Santana clip 😂
Great content, great vision, great energy ✌️
Wow! such an incredible amount of work even before filming and editing. We definitely appreciate your dedication to share and document the process. Please keep it up!
Like most cars, the heater core was hung on a string and they built the car around it.
The license plate is apparently a grey 2005 XC90 in Sweden 🙂 Love all your vids!!!!
Yes! It was a gift from a viewer. I had it on my 1969 164 last year and it will probably go on my xc90 once I can get a proper frame for it
Nice one I can believe it
This will be an awesome build to follow!
Excellent
Following this closely!

I cannot wait to see the end results of the Volvo 164
Roger waters practiced for that tour in my hometown..( state college pa.)..I got to see him. Just a few tech screw ups …but, pretty great.
Dear David Bello.
🌲 Merry Christmas!🎄 I wish you to have a wonderful and really good Christmas time with your families/friends.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Now I will watch the long, looong awaited video.
Awesome 👌 👏 👍🏿 video
I wish I was the customer for this rebuild
Saludos desde Argentina David!
Brilliant
I hope you lubed all of the mechs in the doors.
The odd plate behind the rear seat back was a firewall. Required when rallying but in this case may have been added if the owner at the time was paranoid about fires after being rear ended. If you put it back it would block interior to trunk sounds. Nice job David. Good attention to detail as usual.
Best Wishes for the holiday and 2023.
Hey David, just been looking at the comments below. It seems you have about 32k followers who all want to know exactly how you do the EV conversion. So how about it? How do you do it?
No pressure though. LOL. Personally I'm hang out for part 2 of this conversion series.
I keep looking at my white 240 GLE sedan in the back yard thinking, where will the motor go?, gearbox/no gearbox, how many and what type batteries, temperature control on the batteries, what controller, how will the torque and top speed compare?
You've opened a can of worms here. Bring it on.
Very thorough job. Looks really good so far! I wish an EV conversion was legal in my country. Seems like an interesting project to take on. I own a 1958 Amazon and have replaced some of the old tar paper with something equivalent to the Kilmat. Noticable difference on the panels that have them applied so far.
Very cool ;
Really I am so proud of such unbelievable work especially the preparation stage hoping to watch part 2 of EV installation steps, keep the unbelievable work my brother 😍
David
Great video.
Very thorough as always.
My wife has a 1990 240 that she loves.
It is her fourth 240.
I would love to do a conversion on her car.
Really looking forward to the next videos.
thank you
Bill Compton
an old girlfriend had a car exactly like that, in great shape, same blue paint
Hello David!
Where do the Swedish license plates come from?
The letter X indicates an import car or car sold in Sweden from 2005. My 850 -92 had x, it was imported to Sweden in 2006.
But this registration number belongs to a car in traffic in Sweden.

Just curious. :)
Is it necessary to cover every millimetres with sound damping?
When will part 2 be online?
Witch motor type is here b30a or b30b?
Concerning the milage… Italians are in Europe known for rewinding milage clocks!
The engine and trans fit in a Marcos GT.
Over 54lbs of Kilmat alone being added, then add that to the increase due to the EV mod and new EV rated tires.
I might have missed it but what is the HP increase over the B30?
for the door why not stick the sound proofing to the door card?
Cost? or shouldn't I ask?
Awesome project. I love DIY typo of projects. And ofc awesome video as usual. What do u use to make them, David?
I shoot on my iPhone and edit with premiere pro. Thanks for watching!
Really cool project. Are you willing to share where you bought that second layer, the foam material? are give the name looks really nice :)
And I think I saw this car before in the Netherlands looked the same at least. Good luck with the continuation of the project can't wait for the next vid.
DAVID , I HAVE A 1972 142 E ,THAT I WAS GOING TO RESTORE, HOWEVER , I THINK I WILL DO THE SWAP TO EV. GREAT AND TIMELY VID. PLEASE KEEP US IN THE "LOOP" WITH YOUR SWAP. AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR YOUR CONTENT !!!!!!!!!!
OMG David!! Can I say I am getting aroused? I have my '91 240 in limbo. It has dual fuel, gasoline and LPG and I have contemplated converting it to electric. I am hungry for details. The 240 and 164 are similar enough to make details for the 164 similar to to requirements for the 240. I am ready to be corrected. Can you make a list of parts? What range do you expect to get from the particular motor and batteries you install? I have watched other vids about EV West and their electric conversions. In Australia we are a bit behind the conversion wave so it is harder to do it.
Can you provide details of what components of the system go where in the 164 and issues you have.
Actually I have just realised I am getting ahead of the process as you haven't yet done the installation yet. So I will be patient for details because I know you make excellent descriptive videos.
Cheers in anticipation of a successful conversion.
what happened to this project?
It sure resembles a 1974. The 1975 had different emblems and different headrests
Interior changes to modern style from 1970/71
Atleast in europe lol
You know I would Slam a banging popping sneezing wheezing redblock in there and vent the rear tires for the next 300 miles continuously. You will never have to wait for the car to decide to accept the gas. Neat idea. Great Specimen. No noise, no joys. I think Roger Waters would agree.
I have imagined doing this myself so I'm very interested in how it is done.
Also, when you were investigating the apparent new rear end, I noticed what looks like sunroof drains in the trunk. I don't see a sunroof so it looks like they used a rear from a sunroof car.
There’s a cowl under the rear glass, are these not the drains for that? My guess is it keeps rain water away from the trunk seal
@@DavidBello Perhaps you're correct. Thinking back all of our Volvos had sunroofs and drains.
Extremely nice
Cool project man!
I've been wanting to to the same for my 164. Cool project
I was hoping, it was one of the SE versions , with the wide tail lights.
Yes that I think is the proper 1975-built cars. They have the parking brake in the middle like the 240 series
Where was it sold the first time?
I believe Italy
@@DavidBello that explains
Awsome build, subscribed😎🔥🇳🇴
This is a nice project! Can't wait for the next update! Where did you get the sound barrier/closed cell stuff?
Amazon carries all the sound deadening like Kilmat and Siless plus the tools to install
Cool project.I have always said that electric conversions is the future for old cars.
David! Have you ever considered a P1800Es for electric conversion? Great work!😎
Going from BMW z4s to Volvo seems odd?
4:53 Where's Jacob The Carpetbagger When We Need Him?
Love the video, but so many adverts, every couple minutes really take away the enjoyment.
One square inch at a time😂
Rare Volvo 164 manual and you rip it apart to put a bloody electric motor in? Sacrilege 😈
Noooooooo
Yussssss
what a beautiful car. making it ev will make it last even longer than volvos usually do
I really want to do a EV swap on my Diesel 245. Would your girlfriends 245 consider a swap and video it? I’ve learned so much from your videos. Really looking forward to your part 2. I’m in San Diego btw.
Wait a moment so you are going to ruin a perfectly good volvo just to make it like a fking Toyota prius?
WooooHooooo! Go David! Go Tesla Volvo!😊
Please change the rear badge to 'fuel rejection'!
Poor b30 engine
superb......
