What I ❤ about this father and son team is the sincere interest and appreciation for these cars. It's not a 'will it run and drive 1000 miles home' instead It's about getting the car back to their yard, then off the trailer for a thorough going over. Methodically and with attention to the details so that by the conclusion of the vlog/story we see what they saw when they first laid eyes on it. What a classic duo.🎉 Much love and respect for them from a man whom loves all classic motor vehicles and enjoys remembering how they were then and in this case something like 50 years on after decades of neglect seeing what can be with attention to the details here and now, look at this classic today.❤😃🎉
I gotta say that thing cleaned up way nicer than I thought it would, that Scotch brite pad did an excellent job of cleaning that surface rust off that one side, normally those vinyl roofs do nothing more than rot the steel underneath them. Great job getting that one back up and running
I love your channel! No hype, drama or any foul language. You guys are top notch mechanics and do things just as I would. I also love that you rescue cars that nobody else would give a second look. Great job guys!!!!
I think this is the first channel doing a revival where the person doing the revival didn't say the thing I hate to hear... "Preserve the patina". You did just what I wish all the others would do, Get ALL that surface rust off the paint!
Awesome....I LOVE seeing old MOPARS brought back to life!!!! I remember when these cars were new and the Monaco Brougham was a really beautiful car!!! Ya did me proud!!!!
I bought a white sedan like that in the 90s for $150 ! It was a former state patrol car with a 440. It had 2 ends of an extension cord coming out the dash you had to plug together to give the ignition power before you turned the key. It also didnt have any carpet and the floors got hot ! I sold it to a friend who had it over heat on them because the thermostat stuck shut so we took a bolt and jammed the thermostat open to get it home where the tools were at. Fun times as a teenager ! LOL
@glenbo2464 How you gonna jam a bolt in the thermostat without a wrench to get the thermostat housing off? In which case you'd just remove the thermostat altogether. Your comment makes no sense.
34:50 - it amazes me how your brake fittings aren't super rusted and corroded! You just change a brake line like it is no big deal! In all my years of working on old Chryslers, I rarely found an old fitting that wasn't super rusted in Pennsylvania road salt!
One of the best things I like with your channel and the will it run videos is that you wash em first, instead of doing it after! I know from experience that it makes a difference!
Those Dodge Monaco's were such nice cars. My neighbor bought a brand new Dodge Monaco station wagon in 1974 and I remember it being such a nice quiet car and nice ride - I was in elementary school then and the mom was part of the car pool - so I was in that car frequently. I remember is being so nice and had a great new car smell - those Chrysler products had a certain new car smell for the time and I still have a smell memory that takes me back to the 70's - yes that was a great decade.
Absolutely love your channel. Watching you guys revive these old machines is extremely rewarding...on top of that, I am absolutely impressed every time I watch one of these and see the fantastic family teamwork. You guys have a one in a million relationship...never take that for granted! Great work!
It is so much fun seeing your kids ride in any one of your cars. They look like little munchkins in that big old backseat!! You ever ask them which is their favorite car to ride in or truck or jeep? Or if they have named them at all?
Mopar C bodies are wonderful cruisers. They ride well and handle decent for what they are. And, you you saw, fairly indestructible. Love it!!! You guys are great - really enjoy the channel!
"Have a 1/2 a pack of cigarettes, a 6 pack of beer, we're wearing sunglasses and it's dark, hit it!" Jake or Elwood would be proud. But you do need the suite coat, and where's dad and his outfit.. I did not think you would get that much off of the paint to make it look that good. That old big block knows it still wants to run. Good job!
What a cool Dodge Monaco one of my Favourite Four door sedans restore it back to Stock .. what a revive as you say sitting 35years or so still having brake fluid an being so nice interior.. Wow .. What a Going to town Rig that will make new paint n Vynal top .. amazing car 👍👍👍😎
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas...
Cool thing I've always liked about the 74 Monacos is the front end, the "face," is nearly the same front-end-face as the 73 Buick LeSabre. Yes, I know--Mopar and GM, but I like all the big boats from all Big Three. Far as I'm watching right now, not even under the hood yet--that soap-up, pressure blast, Scotch-Brite really made her pretty. Love the tunes during the wash-up: Can't go wrong with 11-barre Delta Blues!
That car looks great to be 50 years old. You and your dad always do a great job on anything you work on. With the shirt and tie and fedora hat you make me think of the blues brothers.
Very cool. I have its showroom neighbor in my garage, a 74 Dodge Charger with the lucerne blue interior (mine is all vinyl, not the brocade cloth like that Monaco). My exterior color is a gunmetal gray.
@@Joesmusclecargarage Also, in 1978 it was on the "B" body like the concurrent Cordoba and Magnum. That car is on the "C" body. Then in 1990 the Monaco name was brought back based on a Renault.
Thank you! 🙌 I follow so many car channels that do barn finds and they never use soap first before the power wash. I get most of these are rotted out but still, once the power wash happens it’s so much more satisfying because the soap does help.
One of my favorite cars I ever had was a 1975 Dodge Royal Monaco 4 door hardtop...you did a great job getting it goin. It had that same exact interior and was dark blue.
I'm glad you found one of those 1970s barges. I have a friend who is a Chrysler mechanic and has a car like that. The color of his car is alpine white. Interior color has blue cloth brocade seats with split bench, power seat with recliner, rear window defogger, power windows, power locks, air conditioning, road wheels and other options. He bought the car from the original owner who was in a nursing home and could not drive a car anymore.
my wife said i was like a kid at christmas every time would get one running. it looks like you are the same way. its the thrill of victory. loved that stuff. the challenge.
No idea how enviouseI am you driving that icon..but its nearly as long as my tiny island here..would love to renovate, super job the whole . rescue,,keep up the brilliant finds .👍🏻🥳well done..
Wonderful save!! Fellow Formal C-Body Mopar owner here, and that old gal is pristine!! Touch up the blue in some spots, and finish other items like the top, interior, emblems, etc, and she'll be a gorgeous Monaco Custom!! I own a 77 Royal Monaco sedan, not the hardtop like yours, and I must say these Formal years are something special for the C-Body. 74-77 were the production years, and the Monaco Custom came before the transition to Royal Monaco in 75. Fantastic cars to drive and they're pretty reliable. Only thing these cars have against them is that you can't get replacement parts through AMD and Classic Industries, so thankfully yours doesn't need a complete restoration (I had to give mine a resto). I'm in the process of getting some 74 Monaco parts from OK to replace what little 74 Fury parts I have left to swap on my front clip, then mine will have the correct year and model appearance for the movie. I will upload some vids in the near future to make a collage of the many months of progress I made on my car to bring her to the "completed" stage aside from some minor door and interior work as well as the mighty 500hp 440 swap I have planned for this car to replace the original and very tired and sad 360. Looking forward to seeing future episodes with your 74 Monnie!!!
I have bought and sold several thousand cars in my life, and my two favorites were a 79 Volare, and a 96 Roadmaster wagon. You can't beat the land yachts, especially those mid to late 70's Dodge/Plymouth/ Chryslers.
That’s a rare rare girl these days please take care of it. I love those 70s land yachts most of them are long gone thanks to the demo derby’s. People are still using them and I think it’s pretty sad I’ve got an old station waggon from the 70s and everywhere I go people just love it
Had a 78 Monaco ex highway patrol car - 440 V8 as daily driver in early to mid 80s. Paid 700 bucks for it. It was indestructable. Same interior as this one except in gold cloth. Took off exhaust and replaced dual cats with straight pipes, took out electronic carb control and ignition and ran an old dual point distributor. Ran like a scalded cat . Wife drove it a lot to work and would roll down 2 lane road at about 90
Beautiful car I love it enjoy it wow 34 years sitting just start drives like a baby all done very well Good for you God bless you buddy bless you family as well
Dressing up as one of the Blues brothers for the test drive, that was class. I would daily drive it, new vinyl top, maybe some paint touch ups and that would be the perfect daily driver.
Amazing. It had its last inspection when I was 1 year old. Grew up watching Blues Brothers and the 74 Monaco has always had a special place in my life, I have a toy Plymouth Fury (looks almost the same) and I painted it to look like the BB when I was 7😅
My grandmother had one of these when I was a kid. Used to take me to elementary school in it. White with a blue and black zebra print seat cover set front and rear. Such a cool video. Thank you
I was wanting to say 3 of these cars were used for the opening credits of "Hill Street Blues" back in the day. However, I think that was the Royal Monaco that came out later. GREAT VIDEO!
I love that boat!!! Nothing drives like a couch on wheels. Those seats are so comfortable. I drove something like that to High School, and I can still feel it marshmallow down the road.... Love it!
Wow - I have the same model - perhaps the best condition now you will ever find. It's a 1974 Monaco Custom. 360 car, 4 barrel, white vinyl roof, blue interior - AND same sky blue paint as this one. My car only has 34,000 original miles, she is like new. Try search for it on Classic Restos TV Australia. These cars drive superbly...they are just so smooth, quiet and comfortable. Yes, I am a Blues Brothers movie tragic as well. Thanks for sharing this, Fletch 👍👍
Wow! Awesome revive! Monacos are getting harder to find now and I agree don't hack it up. Keep the blue and restore it back to its original glory. For Bluesmobile cosplay I believe you get some temporary wrap for the car and then hand paint the details on it. When you're done you can just peel it off buff out the residue and its back to normal.
My grandparents had a 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco when I was growing up. Took that thing from Invermere BC to Vancouver Island and back. I miss that car, but it was rotting out too bad. Removed the door panels and there was rust behind them, the floor in the trunk was rotted right out behind both the wheels. But even after sitting for years after that trip and never doing anything to it, I had bought it from them, but ended up donating it to pick n pull as I was only 18 at the time and couldn't afford to fix it and didn't have the knowledge. Amazingly it drove all the way from Invermere to Calgary with no issues what so ever. Didn't do anything to the brake system or the fuel system or carb or anything. It had the 440 (7.2L) with 4-barrel, 3 speed automatic and that thing liked to go!
you guys are just amazing, you got this thing so down to a rhythm its just a pleasure to watch you and your father working together .. what amazing memories you're creating..Amen

My grandpa had one of these when I was 5. Mid to late 70's. Metallic sparkly green. White walls, wire rims. White interior. Lots of chrome. Floated down the road. Budget builds ty for the memories💚
You are lucky that this '74 is before Lean-Burn. First thing I had to replace on my '77 New Yorker.
