One of the best fishing channels for people from the Midwest! I wish you broke down Walleye fishing like you do Salmon/Trout. I would watch all those also.
I've been fishing 10 color leadcore behind my hobie PA12 kayak for about a month now, chasing Lake Trout in Ontario back lakes. It takes a bit of management, but I've had some success. Looking forward to fall fishing when there might be more fish at the 40 to 50 ft depth.
What is a good set up for a single fisheman in a 17' fishing boat. I bought a pre-spooled 200' and pre-spooled 300' weighted steel from Russ and I believe they will go down 45' and 65' respectively. So next season and my first full season I was going to run the 200 and 300 weughted steel on port and starboard and a downrigger on port stern. Would this set up be reasonable to catch salmon thru the water column? Is there a way to get the weighted steel deeper, perhaps with a snap weight on the mono leader? I have no dreams of being a big time fisherman like many of u r, but I would like to tie into a salmon once in a while.
Say your in 100 FOW and you are running 4 lead core lines off each side of the boat on planners. One day the fish are at 20 feet, next day at 40 and then 60 the next. Do you need 4 rods/reels setup for each example since you do not connect the lead core to the planner board directly? Please help. I am struggling with the versatility of lead or wire. Would one better off cost wise going with braid and a snap on weight to what ever desired lead length the day calls for?
@@RussellsFishingTech if you were only going to use leadcore for salmon would you use 18 lb or 27 lb? What’s the difference in dive rate? 5 ft every color for 18 lb or 27 lb?
You mentioned 5’ depth for every color, but at what trolling speed ? Also what is the real purpose of backing line when colors can be used to measure how many feet of line is out there ?
Bobby - many estimate copper dives about twice as deep as leadcore line for every foot let out. A 10 color leadcore is out 300 feet, so a 150 copper would probably be in the same area. I’m sure Russell can chime in here and help clarify also. Good luck!
You said NOT to use high speed reels. This is the exact opposite of everything I've read which recommends the use of 6:1 ratio (high speed) reels for 10 color. I'm confused now.

Great Leadcore 101!
nice videos bro...great information
when are you gonna get some more specialty flashers in stock? appreciate your videos and willingness to share information
Love the 101, I didn't catch how much backing to spool?
What knot do you use to connect the braid to the lead core line?
Pinch out some of the lead an do a uni knot
Great video! What is your ideal length of rod for lead core set ups?
Can you use monofilament line on that stainless steel guide rod?

Why do you recommend braid as backer instead of mono?
@@DavidRedcap stronger and thinner holds more backer
Good Morning...can you provide commentary/opinion on the Cold Water Vs The Convector Low Profile ? Which One do you prefer and Why ? Thanks.
Non low profile for like capacity purposes
Do use use leader attached to lead core? How do you attach terminal tackle? thanks...Eric
A knot
What lb leadcore is good for primarily walleye but some salmon and Lakers?

Have to have backer because you can't hook your planner board to lead code it will damage the line
What type of knot to connect braid backer to microlead ?
Willis
you didnt mention a swr rig i run one in july if i can run more than 6 rods.
Coming soon
What would be the curve on a 10 color vs weighted steel and copper? IE 10 color is 45 feet what would match that in weighted steel and copper?

Speed makes a big difference as copper sinks fast vs core. Matthew Clinton’s assessment is pretty much the standard assessment from what I have seen.
Why?
Im from BC, Canada on the west coast and I haven't heard of this style of fishing.
Why would you just use a downrigger?
Good vids.
Thanks
Downriggers are not nearly as effective on the Great Lakes with the very very clear water and spooky fish
