Wow, my first time using lead core and this was absolutely enlightening. Thank you. Guess the next thing is how did you tie your braided to the lead core? LOL that won't thread like mono.
Excellent. I'd seen this type of knot before online, but just couldn't believe it would actually hold. I am going to use this the next time I'm using my leadcore rig! Many thanks for the clear and simple vid and explanation.
Well explained, appreciate you pointing out the loss of the lead does not produce any weakness. I would add that I sometimes put tow knots, each in line to insure there is no slippage, which I sometimes get. Thank you.
Have you tried this with Sufix 832 Advanced Lead Core? I’m about ready to break my rod over my knee! Sometimes the fluoro pokes out. Sometimes the lead core pokes out. Sometimes the hollow sheath closes too tight to poke the fluoro in. One time I got it in all the way and when I tried to pass the knot down both the lead and the fluoro pokes through the sheath! So frustrating!
I have always been able to use that brand of leadcore with a 20 lb fluorocarbon leader. But last time I tried it it would not work. I just ended up tying an FG knot. Seems to be working!
@@jonathanlozier4329 The correct way is to load the lead core on first and then the backing tied to it. Then when the reel is full ( leave 1/4" space) then cut the backing. Go to a really big lawn ( we used a football field) and pull off the backing w/ the lead core attached. Now attach the backing to the reel in normal fashion and wind away. Your reel will be ready w enough backing but not to much. Hope this helps.
Use the okuma 303D with 5 colors of lead. Just add a 5-6 oz snap weight to equal about 10 colors without all that lead core out. Can always snap on more or less weight but when running 10 colors your kinda limited unless you have a bunch of reels to use different amounts of lead core on.
I tried this but could not get the fluorocarbon into the sheath of the lead core so I said screw it and tied a double uni. Maybe my lead core is to old
@@mainetroutwhisperer when I tried to push the fluorocarbon onto the sheath I couldn’t keep the sheath open enough for it to slide in. It kept working out the sides of it. I’m not sure what brand it was I was messing with tonight. Iv always had good luck with the double uni but wanted to try something new
Ryan Brand I’ve never had it break on me at the knot. I use flurocarbon. I’ve had them last multiple seasons but you should change out your leader regularly.
It wont last 2 weekends. With big kings it is easy to find the weakest link in the chain. But i do use that knot in 10 feet of 50 pound mono to clip boards on. Just not at the 20 pound leader end.

Great tip on connecting leader to lead core. Thanks

One of the craziest fishing knots I've ever seen even tho it's super simple lol thanks for the vid dude
Very nice! Note: If you fill your line counter reel spool to full, it is more accurate. Thanks again!
Pretty slick. I do something similar, but use a different knot.
For Kokanee we often like to use a snubber but I guess that can still be added in.
Great video! Clearly depicted
Nice knot. Only works if the leader has smaller diameter than the lead though.
Thanks! Excellent video!
Thanks! Nice video quality

Yeah it doesn’t work well with that. Take a good chunk of lead out and use a double uni knot. That works well for that stuff

Thank you. Good video!
Looks easy enough!
Awesome, really great video!!!
Very good video on how to attach leader to lead core with emphasis on key points. TY!
What knot do you tie when putting leadcore on reel or are you using a backing?
Depends how much lead core im
Using, but usually I put a little backing on
Thanks for the info 👍
Great tip! Thanks
Great video. Thx man
Great Video! Do you tie the lead core to the braid with this same knot?
Mark B no I don’t think that will work with braid.
@@mainetroutwhisperer OK thank for your feedback. What knot do you use? Am I guessing right thinking you're using braid as backing
Mark B yeah that rod has braid on it. I used double uni knot I believe. Could have been double surgeons. Not sure. Just look up “braid to braid knots”
It’s hard to believe that simple knot holds up, 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 But I gotta try it! So simple!
How much of the lead core do you put on?
What net is that behind you?
How well would this work with braid?
I use a uni works w 20 lb mono
I want to make a 10 color rig any suggestions? looking at the Okuma cold water reel and suffix 832 Lead Core. But not sure what size rod and reel.
Jonathan Lozier that’s what I have. The mosnster coldwater reel I think it’s like the 4000ish series.Just load it up
@@mainetroutwhisperer How much backing do you put on for a reel that size?
Thanks for your reply

Awesome can I use on backing also?
If your backing is mono
Man that is way easier than I thought
Thank you
Great,will use it in Europe.
How longs the leader?
That is awesome!
I tried this but could not get the fluorocarbon into the sheath of the lead core so I said screw it and tied a double uni. Maybe my lead core is to old
Some of the newer leadcore lines are impossible for it to work. The suffix one is almost impossible

believe it or knot
J made a funny 😆
You can’t strip back the coating on the better lead core line!!

Smooth knot, but very weak, over time the knot gets tighter and tighter breaking the mono at the knot.
