The WBP AK-AR (AR Mag-fed AK) is Coming to the US!

- In this episode of TFBTV, @JamesReeves is at IWA 2023 talking with Polish AK manufacturer, WBP, manufacturers of the famous WBP Jack. WBP has something quite clever up their sleeves for 2023, and that's the introduction of the (tentatively) WBP "AK-AR", an AK that accepts AR magazines. There are a number of brilliant features included, so be sure to watch the whole video.

Ahh finally, the legendary Ak-15
So this is the one politicians have been talking about
Also known as the AR-47
You’re thinking of the AR-14 which does not exist…. Except in the mind of Brandon… 😂
Funnily enough, the AK-15 actually exists, although it's just the 7.62×39 variant of the AK-12.
Fully semi-auto.
The bolt hold open is really cool. The magwell isn't really anything new, I've had a Zastava M85NP for over a decade. I do like that the WBP magwell is aluminum, the one on my Zastava is polymer.
when i found out about the M85NP it was too late. It was no longer in production and it was hard finding one. This looks promising. Id pick this up as long as QC is good and its reliable.
@@DillIshOn To be honest, as far as QC & Build quality Zastava has had more QC issues pop up in the past 2 years than WBP in probably it's entire 6-7 years in the U.S.
Zastavas are well made guns, especially for the $1,000ish price point you get a 1.5MM receiver, Cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel, but they mass-produce & it shows
Its not. Adapters exist. Seen steel, aluminum, polymer and even people gutting ar lowers at the mill to turn into magwell for nato k. Some snap in. Others rivit or bolt in and are pinned through the original mag release.
All nato k can ar15 mag. Ive even seen people add lugs to ar mags and rock those in like ak mags.
Aks are super fun to modify. Imagination and workmanship can do anything.
I've looked and everything is gone, sold out etc. It's not so easy...
Beautiful gun! My only concern is that at a $2,000 price point it may not grab as big a piece of the market in the US as WBP might be hoping for. Looking forward to the future review so we can peak inside!
If it's $2K, then I'm out
My thoughts exactly. When there’s already solid 223 AK offerings… all you’re really getting here is the AR mag compatibility and last round bolt hold open. Both of which are great to see, and I’d love to have, but… probably not worth the added cost for most people. It definitely wouldn’t be for me.
Still, it doesn’t sound like the price is finalized, so we’ll see what they come in at.
There are certainly more competitive options already.
If it’s $2k you might as well stick with Galil Ace 556.
I'm buying one
Polish made SG550 which is a swiss made AK.
Probably the best execution of the concept.
If you absolutely need a long stroke 5.56 assault rifle and want to torture yourself to attach accessories this is fantastic.
Rails for what?
Just mount a light an you are gtg
This is nothing remotely equal to a SG550. It's a kluge, and a kluge that involves a less-reliable magazine with a dubious additional feature. Not the best idea in the world.
Why torture? Put zenitco B30 rail + B33 dust cover and you got the same attachment profile as on any AR. SG550 isn't very reliable
This is so cool. I love seeing innovation modernizing the AK platform. There are 6 bodies buried at the intersection of highway 264 and 903.
Ha, I live in Greenville, I know what I'm doing Sunday!

right by the texas roadhouse?
I’m so excited for everything that WBP puts out there.
just what we need another over priced stamped ak
where are the 454 AK 74S LMAO
@@SpaceRanger187 all aks are NOT "overpriced" when compared to literally anything besides an AR
Love my WBP JACK 🇵🇱
Great! I’m happy that WBP is trying to keep making new stuff. I applaud them and now to find a 556 WBP to go with my 762
I've been having wbp jack 556sr for a year now they been importing them for a year but they take 556 ak mags like aks should take not a funky AR mag. But was just letting u no bout the wbp jack 556sr they been importing for a little over a year
@@timothycain4512 It's 7.62 ARs that are known for AR 7.62 mag problems because of the curve design, 5.56 mags are less curvy so AR & AK 5.56 mags are almost identical.
They have been making 556 guns for a long time. I run theirs in my z85.
Edit: I run their magazines in my z85
Interesting, glad WBP is growing it's offerings. Maybe WBP can make some Grots? However, i'm waiting for a new batch of Jack 556 and I hope they have stock finish color options like recent Jack 762.
Grot is made by different company (owner of Beryl, other AK-like rifle). You have to ask distributors of Beryl if Grot going to be available. Cheers from Poland!
Grot is propertiary of fb radom, and cannot be produced by anyone else.
@@TheLordYoghurt for next few years I wouldn't get my hopes high. Civilian market in Poland is Grot-starved atm, the military and Ukrainians are taking everything that comes off the assembly lines.
Fantastic, thank you for showing us this company's products!
This is the one and only AR/AK hybrid that I have ever considered getting. The aluminum mag well and last round bolt hold open that is actually engineered into the rifle itself and not a mag feature is just great.
Holy shit. They made a ar mag ak that doesnt look hideous.
Very cool. Glad to see more innovation that actually works, makes sense, is practical, and looks sexy to boot.
only worth considering if it prices around $1000... if $1800 forget it. But great idea - AK taking AR mags - so we have this type of product with PSA and now WBP... Zastava needs to get on it now.
A re-engineered, rare, innovative concept, Polish-made, imported AK that's been highly sought after (and required hundreds of hours of engineering) is only worth considering if priced on par with the same old, typical American-made AKMs on the market? An unreasonable expectation. This AK will not be for you. Zastava needs to get on it now? Why even get your hopes up for Zastava though? Do you think they might be willing to take a financial loss in order to sell to bargain shoppers?
It's a WBP so it will definitely be over $1000. Their quality is pretty good imo. AK's aren't cheap anymore btw.
@@Ntmoffi true ... just hoping... man just a few years i picked up Russian VEPRs new for $1000 and there was no tax. Now the price is high as hell and you have to pay tax on everything (at least in NV) - sure some vendors u won't pay tax but hard to find like WBPs there. Neways when u picked up VEPRs for $1000 hard to pay $1200 -1300 for WBP. But do need a bomb proof 556 AK in my collection - PSA has one, now WBP coming. Don't like the Zastava since it doesn't take AR mags.
@aperfectcircle007 it's a reasonable expectation lol. 1800 is way too much.
Agreed, 1800 is like high mid tier, upper echelon AR15 pricing. Hell can get a Geissele or Daniel Defense or SOLGW for that price!
Very well made. Thank you Stephen for a great demonstration.
Definitive Arms has entered the chat. I got my Russian Saiga 223 converted to take AR mags with an integral LRBHO and bolt release 10 years ago ...
I could never get them to convert mine. ton of emails and calls never returned
@@southerner985 I guess I was lucky...they replied to me with a rather snotty and condescending email that pretty much said, "we only do it for special people and you're not one of them." IMO, they can FOAD. That said, I expect them to get their panties in a twist and try to sue to prevent this.
Definitive Arms came on like gangbusters. Now?... can't find them
@@jerryaelvoet72 That's what happens when ego gets in the way of common sense.
Century already did this with the pap 85. They just never worked on cleaning up the execution like good foldable stocks and a dust cover mounted rail. So, I'm glad someone else is going to take a crack at this. I think Sig ought to sell the 556 again except with more of a too rail.
Amazing! A must have.
looks like an ak and an mp5 had a baby, i like it.
This year has been a blessing of innovation blooming in the gun industry. As seen by IWA ShotShow already. Keep it coming, thanks to TFB for all the updates.
I don't remember seeing much innovation at shot
There wasnt a hell of a lot at IWA. 90% is the same as 2018 when i first entered there. Some things sure but we are talking about 7 big halls with up to 50 stalls each...
“Hundreds of hours of engineering “ when you can just shoot an ar instead!!! Brilliant!
Not gonna lie
I dig it
Have had my WBP 7.62 for about 6 years now or so and it just runs. They along with Zastava are where it’s at for AKM’s. I think PSA is catching up though!
As a Russian dude born and raised in America this warms my bi cultural Slavic soul. I need it
PSA has em for around 1-1300$. But competition is always welcome
Now I realise that Pakistan 🇵🇰 made AK15 is best, the thing which you are trying to introduce in 2023 I tried in 2012. The idea 💡 of Ak47 shape 5.56 ammo is fantastic, I made it with local Gun's Smith in Dara Adam Khel, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan.
They should've offered it with a pinned and welded suppressor ready muzzle device.
Looks pretty cool
I'm not a big AK guy in general so having an AK in 5.56 really does not interest me at all, but that said, WBP is one of the best AK manufacturers on the market right now and their AKs sell out almost as soon as they are restocked in the US. I have no doubt that this will be another extremely high-quality WBP product. I would like to know if WBP would consider making both a milled receiver full-size "Jack" AK, AND either a milled or stamped full-size "Jack" in an underfolder configuration? I'm particularly interested in a WBP "Jack" underfolder, even a stamped one. PLEASE consider making these guys!
Agreed I'm not sure why anyone would choose this over an AR15, I certainly wouldn't.
Well because AK47’s work and have been since 1947 and will still be working in wars until the end of time lol! Nothing wrong with ar-15’s but it’s funny that 99% of the guns used in war are AK’s 🤷♂️
@@abc4781 I cannot get on with AR15 charging handles. They just feel like the clumsiest thing in the world to me. I'm just an AK fan. I just personally love the ergonomics of an AK. And having a quality Polish manufactured AK with a proper bolt hold open just sounds like fun incarnate.
@@maotseovich1347 that's because you're a communist
Milled AKs are overrated.
I like this ar mag Kalashnikov trend that's starting up.
I want this type of ak so bad, I learned the m4 in the army, but I love the Ak.
This is my spirit animal
Adding AR style magazine well and release mechanism removes one of the things that make AK's great in cold weather environments, the large lever style release and less area to have ice buildup.
Yup! That's spot on! PSA did it slightly better on the AK-556, because they retained a paddle release. I doubt it's as efficient as the paddle release on a classic rock&lock magazine AK, but it's still better than just the button release on this.
That's awesome!
I was thinking "but why?" until I actually saw this thing with LRBHO and realize it's from WBP. Should be good stuff
Exciting! We own THREE WBP firearms and love them!
This is why I Love IWA, There going to be be some Cool Shit. Also Give James Some Credit for asking the Right Questions, He's doing a great fricken job !!
Czekam na ten montaż z orzełkiem .Wygląda kozacko, na pewno go kupię.
This is great!
Love it!!!💖💖💖👍👊 Thanks James 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👊
Bolt hold open is a great addition, although it seems like it would interfere with the WBP improved AK safety which has the additional tab.
You have no idea how long I've waited for this😮
1:19 Not Bulgarian mags. It's Yugoslavian (Serbian, Zastava arms) mags that have bolt hold open mags.
Probably the best execution of an ARAK/AK-15 so far
Gonna need one of these
This is intriquing. As a lefty, the AK has advantages when it comes doing reloads.
Well that's cool!
I saw a "kyber pass" version of this a few days ago. Didn't look this good, but it was functional.
Awesome.
damn what a time to be alive man!!!
So the psa ak with the ar mag well. Well it's nice to have options now
this looks really awesome! i want one!
along with the button release, they should have the paddle too to use simultaneously. ar style safety would be interesting. maybe have both style safetys on at the same time. a true hybrid. arsafety on left an ak right. would def buy. various cal options
Yep I’ll take one
I like that the mag well is aluminum instead of polymer
Brawo Panowie
That’s actually rad
Psa already makes one. Affordable and quality product
What I'm most excited for is actually that WBP rail mount. I've been looking at getting a rail mount for my WBP Jack and now that they're releasing their own mount I'll just wait and get that since it'll be a perfect match for my rifle. If it's the same high quality as their rifles, I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
From my research, the problem I have found with these types of conversions, specifically the Canis and definitive arms ones, is that typically a significant portion of the front trunnion needs to be cut away to clear room for inserting the mag, which significantly weakens and shortens the lifespans of the gun. There are forum threads about this. Although hopefully this one uses a smarter design. The other drawback is ofc the infamous "double curve" of stanag magazine.
PSA solved this by using a 1.5mm receiver
The rifle I've been wanting. Heck yeah!
I need this to go with my palmetto state armory ark 5.56
Very cool.
That BHO is pretty darn cool.
Wow, I can’t wait to buy this, who here doesn’t have ar15 mags!!
I want one now!
I’m excited for future comments if this makes it to the states…”$1800 I can’t buy that!” To be fair that’s arsenal pricing from a company that doesn’t have the history of other manufacturers.
My only concern is whether the bolt release lever would interfere with an "enhanced" safety or not.
My favorite rifle, which I picked up in December 2022, is the PSA ArK 556. I'd love to see a side by side video.
Have you used anything other than pmags?
I imagine that is how this would be better, being able to use steel mags
I can run steel, lancer, and various pmags in mine. The only difference between them is some drop free and others don't. Pmag gen 2 work best and drop free but the rest you have to strip.
@juint has something to do with how PSA designed the mag well around the PMag gen 2.
@@Bigbigpoopi hex mags seem okay too
Hell yes!!!
“Something new and exciting”
*stares in PSA AK 5.56*
Yes! Take my money!
I just noticed jame’s most tactical camera sling. ❤
The German-themed intro for these videos never gets old, and it's a strong candidate for "text message alert" music during Oktoberfest season.
Me: "Yea yea, your engineers were so busy asking if they could, they did not even stop to ask if they SHOULD"
Already have a Sam7r so I'm good.
That's how an AK and an AR should be put together
@TFB TV PLEASE TEST ONE OF THESE!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
In all honesty a proper bolt hold open an AK would be 👍👍
I’ll be interested to see this compared to PSA’s similar product
The baby gap those sleeves possess is amazing
He mentioned that it uses a standard AK receiver, which makes me wonder this magwell could be retrofitted onto normal rock-'n-'lock 5.56 AKs, provided you also swapped out the carrier group, of course.
They stated that the bolt is different/modified, so the lock up on the barrel might be different. Therefore the barrels might be a proprietary 5.56 barrel.
Cool,gun
I would love one with classic wooden furniture
🤘😊🤘 Awesome.
Cool
Well hell yeah
Might be time to buy an AkK!
Missed opportunity for galil style rear sights, ambi safety, and railed dust cover
This is what I want
PSA already did this
Wish there was a left eject version.
It's already here palmetto State armory makes one is this table used to make the m90 that way not really knew
OK. I'm actually interested in this.
Servus, Stefan!
Maybe put the BHO on the left side like an AR safety?
They should make a RPK version of this with a 24"-ish barrel
PSA is already doing this
Good to see the mag well is aluminium
Brandon Herrera, meditating alone in the middle of a darkened room: "I sense a tremor in the Force...."
I'd love to take one of these a put a SAG Mk3 on it
Doesn’t palmetto state armory already make an Ak-ar combo.??
