As I'm walking into the bedroom, I slightly bumped the door and the phone shot out of my hand, bounced off a shirt that was on the hard-wood floor and hit the corner of my dresser right in the middle of the screen and shattered it!! It was only 2hrs old!! Sure it was only $300 but still!! The Sams Note 4 is still going strong!! 🤣

I had an Iphone 6s in highschool, and the screen was already cracked from a previous drop. What I didn't know was that a screw came loose inside the phone, and when I was in class, I put my phone down a bit too had onto the desk. The screw ended up penetrating the battery and the phone started smoking, and then caught fire. Luckily, this happened in a science lab, so the teacher evacuated the room and then put the fire out. I had a long talk in the principal's office at the end of the day, and got my burnt to a crisp 6s back in a ziploc bag.
Ngl seeing different youtuber in whatever location they are, away from their typical desk is such a fresh new look to them, makes them feel more "human"
I used to be a no-case kinda person, but after accidentally breaking the back glass of one of my phones I just tread cautiously and always have a case on. Also, two phones back one of my phones was just thrown off a ledge onto huge pointy rocks by the wind. Nothing could have saved that one.
My latest broken phone was OnePlus 5T. The screen broke after the glue gave up. Then it fell from my table and the screen hit the floor, then the rest of the phone fell on top of it. That was an unique way of breaking a screen for sure
I'm a big OnePlus 5T fan. Sort of does the job rather well, unless one wants the latest features, including a good camera. I think I've had four by now. TL;DR : one can get good quality second hand 5Ts for about $100 these days. Maybe cheaper than a new screen. ( I found that my first 5T lasted far longer than the second hand ones I bought, even although two of them were supposedly never used before, though likely ones made for the Chinese market… )
@@abhi_survasewdym by not even MKB? He was literally the one I didn't know from here. Everybody else in the video I've come across multiple times but not him
Recently i bought dbrand’s case and acid sticker for an S23 ultra. Gave it to a friend. So I demonstrated how strong it was (for science) and my friend wanted to try (also for science) but on his last throw you can guess what happened, it cracked on the bottom right edge of the screen. Turned out the screen saver on the phone was not protected on the curves of the screen. My friend ended up paying half the price of the phone to fix the screen and now it barely comes out of his pocket
I love my metal case + silicon inner layer. Case is a tank. Metal case has nicks and scratches, especially around the corners, but the screen and phone itself are in mint condish! Will definitely get this case for the S24 when I upgrade.
I have 2 phones, samsung s7, and google pixel 6a. I have a screen protector and case on both of them, but I have dropped them many times. They didn't really break, the screen protector just cracked. Yep, that's it, just the screen protector. Oh, and when I got my puxel 6a, my mom said that I wasn't allowed to bring it out of the house until I get a case and screen protector for it.
I use a case, but one day half a year ago I wanted to try going caseless. You'll never guess what happened... Of course it slipped out of my hand on top of pavement that had a lot of small pebbles on it. Luckily I only cracked the back glass and one of the camera lens glasses, which I was able to replace myself for about 30€.
My phone breaking story goes thusly: I was riding back to my dorm at college on my electric skateboard when I hit a crack in the pavement, lose my balance, and my phone goes flying out of my hand. Obliterated the screen protector, and left a permanent ding on the corner of the phone where the screen protector and the case both did not cover. I still haven't gotten it repaired because it reminds me to not use my phone while skating. The phone otherwise works the same.
My story is very similar to Sarah. Earlier, i had never used a phone with a case. So one day i was passing my phone to a friend to show a meme and it slipped from both of our hands. The phone fell flat on the screen on a tiled floor and the screen got 10+ cracks all around the surface. Surprisingly, the touchscreen was 100% functional. And, since it was very difficult to find a reputed repair shop in my town, i simply put on a tempered glass and continued using the phone for 2 more years! It has been 3 years since i stopped using it but that phone is still alive in my cupboard!
Tom Scott and Marques Brownlee as the guests in JerryRig's video? That's epic. Any one of them would be enough, but both of them in the same video - EPIC!
I always get a case and screen protector and apply them immediately on a new phone. That said, I gave an old phone to my mum, with its case and screen protector, but she still managed to break the screen on that device. Truly an impressive feat.
I started getting cases for phones in 2016, when I switched from a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (man, I liked the shape of it and the sapphire screen that cracked once but still worked fine) to a Xiaomi redmi 3. I think I bought the first case separately and it arrived a month later, but before it did I was kinda anxious... And had a tiny scratch already. Also, started using flip cases about the same time. On the next phone I also was always using a glass screen protector alongside a case and switched between the flip case and clear silicone ones. On my latest phone I was using the one that came together with it, but I don't like how it's a boring warm gray case (it is a realme collab with dragon ball z, and I like the back design a lot) and how the camera bump is mot a good colour combination with it (a bright orange). I'd use a clear case but haven't gotten around to ordering one and my current emerald green book-style flip case is doing well. One thing that's different is how the phone has a screen protector out-of-the-box, so, I didn't get a glass one, the film on the screen is enough rn)
I just remember that it happened but still can't figure out how it happened: I had a Nokia Lumia 630 that slipped out of the pocket of my jacket in a way that I kicked it with my foot mid air while I was walking a bit faster which made my poor phone land in the middle of the street I was about to cross. Too much traffic to just ran onto the street and so I had to witness a car rolling over it before I got the chance to check if it survived the drop. Luckily it happened not to far away from my birthday and I already had the intention of wishing for a new phone but still the clumsiest moment in my entire life.
I never ever broke a phone until February this year when I bought a Samsung S23 Ultra when it first came out. I only had it for a few days and dropped it from literally 20cm above ground on a rough concrete floor and I had the same thing as you Zack, the screen curve fell right on a raised bit. I was utterly shocked when I picked it up as I didn't expect it break being such a soft fall from under a foot high but it was such an unlucky angle that it shuttered the screen and the case was useless in this instance.
I've never broken any of the 3 phones I've owned in my life, mainly because my first phone was a small plastic late 2000s Sony Ericsson which was obviously very durable, and my old iPhone 6s and current ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 both have cases and screen protectors. I've dropped my Zenfone several times, and it's still got no scratch.
You're lucky.. I had to change my zenfone max pro m1 screen 2 times.. I had enough and bought myself oneplus nord.. 2+ years now using nord without any damage..
Haven't broken a phone in at least 20 years (my usage dates back to the very early models) . Yes, I am both careful and always use a case and screen protector. The one phone that I broke was a very early Samsung (well before smartphones) and it had fallen as I was getting into my car and I didn't know and proceeded to back up over it. It was a work phone and I was very embarrassed to explain what happened. I became very cautious after that. 😎
8:05 "Never buy a phone with a curved screen'. Yup. that. I see those phones and never got why anyone would do that. I could never figure out how that would be protected when dropped. I dropped a phone (with a case) face down while using my grocery list app. I think it landed on a little pebble or a rock, because the case had a lip but still the screen shattered.
Looks, basically. Those curved screens look nice, so people don't think of the disadvantages and get one. The same applies to piano black: beautiful, but it tends to scratch really easily.
I have always been using a front screen protector and back cover. Dropped it a couple of times, plus the screen protector did save me from time to time. One randumb day while searching for an item in the closet, i opened the closet door a little bit too much and it slammed my left pocket containing my keys and the phone. Boom! The speaker grill area instantly shattering upon contact with the keys. Its funny and ironic at the same time that the keys had to hit that very area where there was no protection.
I'm clumsy AF so I have broken 3 phones in my life. The first one was a Motorola Atrix from 2011. I owned a school bus that had broken down and I had to limp it to a mechanic. Since I was so stressed about the bus being broken down, I wasn't paying attention to anything else and left my phone on the floor next to the bus door. When we took off, the phone flew out the door and a car behind me ran it over. I managed to retrieve it but it was completely obliterated. The second phone I broke was a Samsung Galaxy S4. I jumped into a lake with it in my pocket. I put it in rice and it survived for a couple of days then shut off forever. And the last phone I broke was very similar to your story. It was a Google Pixel 6 Pro. I dropped it off my desk last year and the curved glass landed on the desk's leg, shattering the entire screen despite it being in a Dbrand case. I was living in South Korea at the time so there few options for fixing it so I ended up having to shell out $275 USD to get the screen replaced. And the repair guy didn't even do a good job because there is still a gap between the screen and the chasis.
Would love to see you test cases. I'm especially interested in the Rockform cases. I see UA-camrs throwing their phones at walls and the ground with "no damage".
what is absoluly shocking is that these huge tech guys don't always use the latest flagship phones. they have access to the latest and greatest but use phones that are older like the note 10.
I have broken a phone in the past five years. This story is from a couple years back but I had just gotten a red iPhone 11 and me and my cousins were going to the park and I decided “let me skateboard down this stupidly large hill” and I got flung off the skateboard and shattered the main camera lens. I’m glad that’s all that happened to the phone. All the glass held up but it was a pain in the butt to find someone who would actually be willing to fix it. Apple told me that they would have to replace the whole frame which totaled out the phone. Luckily my local repair shop said they could fix the lens. shortly after that, I got a new phone through a trade-in at T-Mobile. I do use a phone case but at that time I didn’t have my protective case because it was so new. That just goes to show a good case like the dbrand grip case or mous ( currently rocking the mous) can actually be worth your money.
I've never broken a phone nor had a case. My last phone was a Samsung galaxy S7. No issues. But it was stolen from my motel room. I was blessed to win a cellphone from Zack! And I now use a case! But I leave my phone at home alot. So thank you JerryRigEverything!!!!
The only time I broke my iPhone was back in early 2021 when I had an iPhone 12 pro and I had it in my pocket while playing VR and the controller whacked it by accident shattering the main camera lens. But I have a broken a few screen protectors, one hitting the coffee table corner and one going splat on a tile floor
I learned an important lesson while using a case on my phone. If you buy a cheap case and drop your phone, your phone will actually feel bad and take the full force of the drop in order to protect the case.
I'm clumsy as hell, but I'm self aware enough that I take precautions. All my phones get good cases and screen protectors, and that normally saves them from the worst
A year and a half ago I fell face down while riding an electric scooter at max speed, i slid for like 6 meters on asphalt and in my front right pocket I had my brand new Pixel 6 with the very bad Google case. As soon as I sat up I grabbed it to assess the damage... It was spotless.
I use a case. Broke my S22 Ultra a few weeks ago after changing my morning routine (but not my alarms). My alarm went off while I was in the shower and the phone was sitting on the counter, I tried to swipe the alarm off but swiped the whole phone off the counter in my soaking wet, drowsy not-so-morning person state..... phone hit the edge of the bath tub and cracked the curved part. I dont think it would have broken if the screen were flat. Samsung warranty service was very hard to get hold of and took 1.5 weeks to finally get back to me with a price for a repair, in which time I had already sent the phone for a refurbished genuine screen, most unauthorized repair shops have off brand screens for that phone in NZ, the authorized ones charge as much as the phone is worth. Samsung was the cheapest but with how slow they were to reply to me, I imagine I wouldn't have my phone back by now. I have broken and repaired my S9 rear glass about 5 times even though it lives in a case and the battery twice (spicy pillows) My oppo reno 4 5g screen fell off, didnt bother fixing it My note 5 slid out of my pocket and landed display first on a tiny stone on the floor.
Always use a case. I watch these UA-cam tech videos of people stating that they don't use a case, and I am in awe. Because my shh... would definitely be broken.
I've never destroyed my phone. I used to not use a case, but for some time I use a carbon fiber case that does not protect the phone in the event of a fall, but reduces the risk of slipping.
what an appropriate time for this video to get recommended to me. Why yes, I have indeed broken a phone, the one I've been using for the past 5 years, a week ago. Now this wasn't the first time I have dropped it onto a hard surface, nor getting it wet, however I think it just had enough. I had just woken up and went to the bathroom with my phone. When I went to flush, I put the phone under my chin to hold, since I had no pants on me, and my brain just forgot it was there and I lifted my chin and the phone plopped right into the water. The first few days it was mostly fine, just a small blob of light near the charging port, that started to disappear as the phone got dryer, but then eventually, maybe a rouge water droplet hit a circuit or something, I got the white lines of death.

Millions to one!
Why a long talk with the principal?

4:19 Tom's a wizard, I immediately felt like I was just chilling watching a Tom Scott video on an interesting topic when he popped up
I used to be a no-case kinda person, but after accidentally breaking the back glass of one of my phones I just tread cautiously and always have a case on. Also, two phones back one of my phones was just thrown off a ledge onto huge pointy rocks by the wind. Nothing could have saved that one.
Zack : " Oh no my screen cracked when im away from my tools"
Also Zack : "okay let's do a big UA-camrs collab"
I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm happy to see elctroboom on a jerry rig everything video
Zack is the most chad of them all, he broke his phone then fixed it himself. What a chad.
bruh tom scott really tried to rick roll us lmao
I thought the twist was going to be Zack giving everyone in the video free screen repairs.
Engineering explained followed by Tom Scott followed by ElectroBoom is something no one would have expected
This must be the throwback of the year!
Last time we had a video like this was back in 2017 I believe
Close, but no. The last video like this was posted in Jan of 2018.

It's crazy that Arun was the only one I knew from this video and he showed the courtesy to introduce himself. Tells a lot about his personality.
not even MKB?
i love that guy and his videos
I mean everyone's channel was mentioned so I don't think that's a big issue or something
@@abhi_survasewdym by not even MKB? He was literally the one I didn't know from here. Everybody else in the video I've come across multiple times but not him
I love Arun, he seem like such a sweet and humble guy!
This was an awesome collaboration!❤
Why i love Jerry is that, he doesn’t change his phone every year like most others do
Did Jerry ever tell the reason for that? I am curious.
Tom Scott really had to Rick Roll us.... would've expected that from MrwhoseTheBoss instead
Ironic that I just came from the newest Waveform podcast where Marques said he broke the back glass of his iPhone 15 Pro review unit. Jynx indeed.
5:16 thumbs up for everyone who tried to blow a small piece of hair off of their screens
Half the price of the device is good for a screen 😮 if you're poor and can only afford an S20 the screen is MORE expensive than the entire phone 😂
Tbh that’s a dumb thing to try out how durable a case is
@@Minto107 true, BUUT tbh we all have done dumb things.
Excluding phones that bricked from being left unplugged for too long, worst I've done is cracked a corner.
I love my metal case + silicon inner layer. Case is a tank. Metal case has nicks and scratches, especially around the corners, but the screen and phone itself are in mint condish! Will definitely get this case for the S24 when I upgrade.
Dumb question, but how’s your signal reception and call quality with that metal case on?
@@AtomicSymphonic Reception is great. Never had a problem.
I'm watching from my incredibly broken Samsung A04 phone. It's a wild experience with all the glitches and malfunctions! 😄📱💥
Of course the local repair shop would let him fix his own phone there. The shopkeeper saw a bar code behind Zack's head.
4:30 Good one, Tom Scott 😂
My story is very similar to Sarah. Earlier, i had never used a phone with a case. So one day i was passing my phone to a friend to show a meme and it slipped from both of our hands. The phone fell flat on the screen on a tiled floor and the screen got 10+ cracks all around the surface. Surprisingly, the touchscreen was 100% functional. And, since it was very difficult to find a reputed repair shop in my town, i simply put on a tempered glass and continued using the phone for 2 more years! It has been 3 years since i stopped using it but that phone is still alive in my cupboard!
You must be living in a cave or a forest or something!

7:36 imagine Jerry coming to you with a problem to fix the phone 😁😂🎉
I never ever broke a phone until February this year when I bought a Samsung S23 Ultra when it first came out. I only had it for a few days and dropped it from literally 20cm above ground on a rough concrete floor and I had the same thing as you Zack, the screen curve fell right on a raised bit. I was utterly shocked when I picked it up as I didn't expect it break being such a soft fall from under a foot high but it was such an unlucky angle that it shuttered the screen and the case was useless in this instance.
You should include drop tests in your durability tests, cause drop resistance is the most important durability characteristic of a phone.
He used to include drop tests! I wonder why he stopped doing them though.
jerry is the master builder of tech channels
Blaming the granite threshold rather than either the phone or case design is an interesting choice.
Yo a jerryrig × marc rober collab would be one of the sickest thing youtube would ever got to see
7:48 Zack moment 😅
8:10 that's badass.
5:22 iphone videos look horrible and too oversharp 😔
what is absoluly shocking is that these huge tech guys don't always use the latest flagship phones. they have access to the latest and greatest but use phones that are older like the note 10.
Didn’t expect electro boom but love that guy so much
I cant believe marques didn’t mention the time he set a phone down on a table and it vibrated itself off to drop into oblivion.
You've got some great nobility Zack! Nice crowd of folks!
Mr Mobile always has the most awesome broken phone experiences/videos.
ElectroBOOM killing a phone _with a cheap dynamo "emergency" light_ is a plot twist I didn't expect to see
I've never broken a phone nor had a case. My last phone was a Samsung galaxy S7. No issues. But it was stolen from my motel room. I was blessed to win a cellphone from Zack! And I now use a case! But I leave my phone at home alot. So thank you JerryRigEverything!!!!
People putting a case one your phone: 🗿

sara... if you've dropped your phone TWENTY times, it may be a good idea to just use a case...
just a thought XD
The way adrenaline rushes through me when my phone drops face plant.... turning it over slowly😂😂😂
The stupidest way I have killed a phone is by dropping it into a full glass of Jim Beam while drinking one night
Once was enough, now I just use a case
I have broken and repaired my S9 rear glass about 5 times even though it lives in a case and the battery twice (spicy pillows)
My oppo reno 4 5g screen fell off, didnt bother fixing it
My note 5 slid out of my pocket and landed display first on a tiny stone on the floor.
Having a phone with no curves and folds, is like trying to turn a sphere inside out. 😂
