Of Marriage and Bookshelves

  • Nolan built the most amazing bookshelves and turned a drab corner into an area that makes one feel quite studious! I dampened his day by being a bit negative throughout the process which was completely uncalled for. Honesty in marriage is absolutely key... but there is also a time when it is best to be quiet, or choose your words wisely. This is a story about bookshelves and marriage.

No darlin its not just you. We will be married 40 years in May and i can't say (well, don't want to admit) how many times I've done that. Afterwards I always think oh why couldn't I just keep my mouth shut and appreciate what he's doing. Have asked the Lord many times to help me with that.
I love your garden shed! 😁

After 21 years of a very happy marriage and raising 4 boys I have learned that males are quite fragile and from the bottom of their hearts just want to please us. A wise women recognizes this, the earlier the better but many, many women never do. These are the elderly couples that constant bicker or the men just don't say anything and the women nag, nag, nag.
You are a wise women because you have discovered this so young. I will add that as you get older it gets much easier to let things go, if one has not become bitter. As an older women you would have thrown your arms around him, kissed his cheek, and made him a pie. I think the bookshelves look great! The shed is so, so adorable! I love round barns.
Side note: Do you know your Meyers Briggs? Our premarriage counseling had my husband and I take the personality test. Of course we were opposites. But it really helped us understand and appreciate our differences. I can tell by this video you are a strong Preceiver and I bet your husband is a Judger. You love projects but hate daily upkeep. You struggle with organization but are super creative. Your husband probably likes a daily routine and habits. You may feel stifled by them. He likes things organized and just so. The opposites in marriage allow you to be a better team if people don't allow them to be annoyed by the other.

Thank you sooo much for your videos.
By the way, your husband is head over heals for you. All those projects were done from his heart because he wanted to make you happy. What a sweet man!
My hubby does things like that too, and this video reminded me i should go remind him of what a blessing he is to me.

Hi dear Jeannine - thank you so much for this video and your little tour round your house - I like your swing , fence and many other nice things there , what I like most is that they are made out of natural materials !! 💙
Jeannine - we women learn - and getting older , we'd see suddenly we gaining patience ... patience with the people around us - and patience with us ourselves ... amazing - another God given blessing !! So please trust Him , my dear "little" sister . .. 😉
You are true : Nolan is (one of 😉) the best husband and he also has got a great talent in working with wood and other natural stuff - this bookshelf is fantastic !!! 👏👏👏 So both of you are a very very talented couple , you can show your little one(s !) a lot !! ... I am the same with gardening. I love it while it looks great and less work. A very well and humbling video. Everyone tends to go through these things and forget exactly what our words can do to someone we love. None of us are alone in situations even if we think we are. Good for you, for owning up to it and realizing that you (we all) need to do better.

Your honesty and transparency made this such an effective teaching video to us wives, Jeannine. I have been married for 38 years now, and have learned that one of the things our husbands want and need from us the most is respect and appreciation. And I would say this tribute to him met that need. Love your openess and humility on this subject...we all need to be more like you. And I especially loved your husband's carpenter apprentice! Too cute for words...

      @theMennoniteMom  5 років тому

Thank you, but honestly, I have so much to learn. Sometimes it seems overwhelming, but God only calls us to one day at a time! Thank you for that, and I'm learning that, too! About the respect. I remember the first time I heard men needed respect over love, it blew my mind and took awhile for me to accept it. But it truly is a beautiful thing. Yes, the little apprentice is just smitten with his daddy. He's forever measuring things now!

What a wonderful husband and so talented. I just wanted to let you know you're not the only wife that can behave that way. I struggle in the same way, my tongue engages before my brain does. I feel just terrible afterwards and try to put it right.
I'm sure that your husband cherishes you in just the same way you love him. Given the opportunity I'm sure he could list many ways you bless him, and all the outstanding projects you're done to create a home and family life you can both be happy in.
You look to me like a lovely, fun couple who nurture and care for each other and your super cute Son, in the best of ways, as much as you can. Blessing on you all. 😊💕

this sure convicted my heart from the get go!! it popped up after watching the project video of the "chicken coop" while watching it I thought about how I too would swoon over watching my hard working husband. through some trials and heartaches, I've sadly not swooned as much 😔 The scripture and you sharing this video and how our words effect them so much!! This and a book I'm currently reading about finding delight in my husband have really challenged me to be more intentional in being a better "uplifting" wife to my husband. also to be even more appreciative for all he does. So, with all that being said, THANK YOU!!! 🤗🤗❤️❤️

But my husband does so much around here for me as well and I don’t know why I don’t just keep my mouth shut! So many would be so happy to have a husband who cared for them and be so thoughtful and willing to do projects for them. Thanks for this reminder. You are so good at exhorting!💗

    Hello again,
Yes you are right in every part of your answer.
Your opening of the video, with the dripping and scripture was both clever and... well, you said it was on target. Something I exercise a lot is that a soft answer turns away wrath.
Anyway, not many even Christian women could have made that video. Your hubs owes you an extra hug for your transparency.
And yes, we are painfully acquainted with goat heads!
Funny, all my life I have avoided going barefoot nearly as much as possible. Daisy, my late wife was from Rhodesia, in lower Africa. With her, it was shoes off at every opportunity. In fact, when I met her she was stocking footed in church.
