I want to share another way of doing 'custom piping I will use on my next project. It is only applicable to upholstery leather considering the strip of leather should be skived on both sides at a certain distance leaving the center raised. After folding and glueing together both flaps a rounded protuberance would be formed the center. It is advisable the use of a 'leather skiving machine'.
The 'small tubes' could change to different diameters.
I have used a strip of leather 1.2 mm thick and 3.2 cm wide.
The 'piping' can be bended to any directions as if it were a 'plastic pipe' inside.
I hope you find this information useful!

Hello Cesar, it is a very good idea to make piping without cord inside. I am going to try this idea for making a leather bag. Of course I have a skiving machine that I had put in time with your fantastic video about this subject.

Great video. I've made piping without the cord but never though of skiving the edges first, thank you! Do you have any tips to cut long strips of leather for piping? It's difficult to do with a straight edge even if you clamp it down.
I understand the issue. It also happens to me in case of long strips of leather. I would rather use the sharpened scissors.
If short strips I use an x-acto knife without any problem.
I have a tip I used for vinyl long time ago. I do not know yet, if it could work out for leather. It consists in cutting a large rectangular piece, then it should be squared and folded over several times until getting it shorter. Now the piece is shorter I would be able to cut many strips with the x-acto knife over the special cutting board.

Great video from a great humble teacher ! God bless ! May I know what leather is that ? Sheep 🐑 , Lamb , Goat 🐐 skin?
Hello, For this demonstration I have used 'cow upholstery leather'. The black one is 1.3 mm thick and the burgundy one for piping strip is 1.2 mm thick.
Most of the times 'top finished cow and bull leathers' are used for automotive purposes. Top finished leathers mean they have a 'transparent sealer/film' on top to make them 'water repelent' and act as protector to endure daily traffic of the user.
