Eric - I've been meaning to mention that since you decided to start narrating your videos, they've gone from "very useful" to "indispensable". Having you talk us through the little details and difficulties, has been truly priceless. Myriad thanks!
Coming back to this video over 3 years later and I'm reminded again of how awesome your channel is and how important it has been on my leather journey the past 4 years. Thank you again for all the techniques you show to your audience for free!
I love how you are honest about progressions. "For your first couple tries don't worry about x" "practice this a few times before you worry about curves"
This is the 1st video I see of yours in over a year and I LOVE the fact that you talk it with us now. I plan to start making bags and wallets as a hobby and gifts for my family and have definitely looked at your videos too learn. Thank you.
I'm very new to leathercraft and piping seemed very intimidating. But this looks really fun and the end product is gorgeous. I can't wait to give it a go!
I'm not involved in leathercrafting myself, but I can say that the skills you are teaching others are quite valuable if put to use. If the economy keeps going the way it is we may have to start relearning practical skills and living in reality, heaven forfend.
Thank you for providing a tutorial that even I as beginner will now practice piping. You are a good teacher and you have amazing control with your knife.
Me encanta tu trabajo!! Tu paciencia al trasmitir tus conocimientos con nosotros!! Intento seguirte pero mi inglés es básico y me pierdo pero seguiré sin duda viendo tus vídeos q me encanta tu trabajo y como nos lo enseñas!! Ahora toca practicar!! Gracias
You're an excellent instructor! I refer to your videos quite frequently and often try to emulate your work. Oh, and your videographer is spot on, you're a great team.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I've done piping one vinyl bags on the machine but never in leather by hand so this was really helpful to know what I need to do differently. I love that you burnished on the inside.
You have a brilliant way of explaining everything. Thank you. I've been wanting to try piping and nowi am confident enough to give it a try. Thanks again
I don't know with the camera cut in the middle, but it sure did look like you skived that entire first edge in one piece... the edge consistency was remarkably satisfying.
Love your videos! You are a great teacher and your voice is very calming. Question- if the Barge cement is not available in my area, would other brands of rubber cement be ok? Thanks!
I totally agree. I tried to skive leather by hand. It is not nearly as easy as he makes it looks. Hand skiving is an art. Knives must be extremely sharp. I finally tossed my skiving knives and bought a bell skiver. Best money I've spent!
I like your tutorial, comprehensible instruction with great camera movements and angles of close-up shots. One question for you, why don't you grade the seam allowances?
Your videos are really helpful and fun! You seem to always use natural veg tan. I love it as well, I just every now and then will get a project close to done and will get a mystery dark grey/black smudge on the leather that I'm really not sure what it is? I try to be very clean especially with NVT leather. Any ideas what it may be in your experience and if so is it somehow removable. Sorry it's off subject from video but I figure if anybody has experienced this you may have. Thanks
This is exactly the video i was hoping to find, excelent video, love the narration, you are a great teacher. PS. You sound a little like Brent Spiner from star trek which is cool, pretty sure he narrates audio books.
Have you considered making a contact adhesive review video, based on what's available on Amazon? I've been using Aleene's leather and suede glue, but am looking for an accessible Contact adhesive.
It ended up looking great! My question is, when the other side is done, it’ll be more difficult to turn right side out. Will all that pushing and pulling end up creasing or marring the leather?
Thank you so much for this video! How would this be different if I plan to put piped edges on both sides? Would I need to work completely inside out until the other side is completed as well?
Quick question, if you see this. Would it not be a little bit easier to make the area behind your stitch line, essentially the glue area, a bit longer so that the gluing down and stitching is easier? And then trim everything up to make them even and neater?
That looks so good. I started making things with leather thanks to you and Little King Goods. I just started cutting out the pieces to make my first messenger bag and I'm fucking terrified! I thought this would make a much better edge than I originally planned. You make this look so easy! Lol I think when I get home from work I'm gonna try this and see if I can figure this out on scrap and work my way up.
You must have been looking at my UA-cam search history. I literally was searching for how to do this on your channel and elsewhere an hour before you posted this….
What kind of glue are you using here? I have issues with glue failing when I'm pulling out stitching chisels, especially with thicker leather (and I already polished my chisels). Your glue seems to hold way better.
Never really knew I would get into this stuff! Maybe in the future I'll attempt to make something but either way your content is great! I love seeing passion in the things people do, and you definitely show love for this work! Thank you for this.
Hi! Can this be stitched with a walking foot? Is there a small enough pressure foot to get into that edge right next to the piping?? I've got a tech-sew coming soon and eager to experiment...
So.. You'd always GLUE the piping before sewing? I'm sewing piping onto the top of a car seat back (without gluing first) and it's drifting all over the place ! Thanks.. What type of glue are you using?

I can only agree with this.
I’ve seen 100’s of makers skiving leather and never seen it done so cleanly before and so effortlessly 😎
Excellent tutorial. You do a great job of going slow enough that a total beginner can follow along and you explain everything nicely. Thank you.

Can we stop for a second and appreciate his skill with the skiving knife? 😲
I’m a novice into leather working and I find your videos and explanations extremely helpful. Thank you.

Been working leather for a few years, great value in watching how others do things. Excellent master class!
Thank you so much! I want to make a clutch for my sister and this came at just the right time. Your tutorials are amazing
I'm very new to leathercraft and piping seemed very intimidating. But this looks really fun and the end product is gorgeous. I can't wait to give it a go!
As everyone else appears to have written too. Excellent tutorial! Good pace, simple and clear explanations. I learned so much. Thank you again.
This was by far one of the best leather making tutorials. Thank you!🙏🏾 ❤
Eric, your voice is just soothing. I like the narration and it gives me confidence

I am so very impressed of your skills.

Man, you’re such a goddamn legend. Thank you so much for getting me into the craft, and helping me refine my skills in it.
Thank you for a great tutorial. I've done piping one vinyl bags on the machine but never in leather by hand so this was really helpful to know what I need to do differently. I love that you burnished on the inside.
Thank you Eric for sharing your knowledge with us! I appreciate that you make your knowledge freely available to us. Love from Malaysia!
This is quite the master class. Thank you!
Loved the tutorial 😍😍😍😍
Im a biggener, amateur, love leather and stitching....
You have a brilliant way of explaining everything. Thank you. I've been wanting to try piping and nowi am confident enough to give it a try. Thanks again
Fantastic session, wonderful technique to learn for making totes, and purses. Nice detail for renaissance festival pouches.
One of the best tutorial channels out there, thank you for the excellence my man
Excellent instructional video. Thank you.
love your tutorials! Seems like a pre-bend for the gusset would make things a lot easier, both to glue and to stick down. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks man! I’ve been wanting to start making small bags but that was the part I thought wouldn’t be fun, that helps A LOT✌️
Excellent tutorial! Can't wait to see the finished product!
I don't know with the camera cut in the middle, but it sure did look like you skived that entire first edge in one piece... the edge consistency was remarkably satisfying.
Excellent video as always, I really got a lot from this one, thank you for the effort you go to, I've learnt so much from watching your work 😎👍🏻
Thank you thank you!!! Best tutorial on piping to date 🙏 🥳
Great video. I thoroughly love watching.
Love your videos! You are a great teacher and your voice is very calming. Question- if the Barge cement is not available in my area, would other brands of rubber cement be ok? Thanks!
Dude, how do you get such amazing skiving results?! It's amazing!
I totally agree. I tried to skive leather by hand. It is not nearly as easy as he makes it looks. Hand skiving is an art. Knives must be extremely sharp. I finally tossed my skiving knives and bought a bell skiver. Best money I've spent!
Amazing video, thanks for creating it!
What kind of leather is this? Is it chrome tanned? Is veg tan too tough for this?
Nice, a very handy technique to be apply on my next projects.
I like your tutorial, comprehensible instruction with great camera movements and angles of close-up shots. One question for you, why don't you grade the seam allowances?
I was looking forward to seen you do the punches at the corners 🥲
Very nice and clean!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You're amazing 👏 👍

What you could make from this part (12:00)… I’m thinking a lid for a box or a coin wallet. Great video, thanks!

Thank you so much for this . Appreciate it
Nice tutorial. Thank you so much.
Спасибо большое ДРУГ МОЙ!!!! Очень полезное и интересное видео!!!!☝️
👍👍👍
Great job, I like it. Thanks.
Great info as always!
hello, please take a video of how you sharpen the tool for chamfering the end face-a cruiser or a creaser thank you
Great job!!

Great teacher
Hey Eric great vid brother. I figure you would appreciate my glass fiber optic light piping. We integrate into leather seating to light up your welt
what sort of glue are you using?
Thanks for a great tutorial!
Great video!
Для быстрого и ровного нанесения клея можно использовать тонкий малярный скотч).
Nice tutorial.
great video! where do you buy your leather cording? it's not on your tools+materials list and it really should be for this video!
That looks so good.
I started making things with leather thanks to you and Little King Goods.

Respect you...,... very very good 👍 job... helpfulness
What size leather cord do you use for piping

super tutorial! thanks!
Hi! Can this be stitched with a walking foot? Is there a small enough pressure foot to get into that edge right next to the piping?? I've got a tech-sew coming soon and eager to experiment...
Very good! Thank you.
Awesome !
Is it advisable to soak the piping in water so that it becomes flexible and easy to mold?
Great video! But now I need to see how to do the fade!! :P
I don't know if doing straight shots and leather work go together well? =)
Where do you purchase the leather cording to use inside the piping?
Thanks...great video.
The “push” advice is what I needed to hear. Thanks
Just wanted to ask, so there are no issues wit the the glue and your machine, I am nervous about the glue and my needles
So.. You'd always GLUE the piping before sewing? I'm sewing piping onto the top of a car seat back (without gluing first) and it's drifting all over the place ! Thanks.. What type of glue are you using?
What glue are you using?!
Great tutorial. Thank you Eric. Love your videos.! I’ve learned so much from you.!
Outstanding
Could ypu use anything as your core inside the piping? Could I use a piece of metal rod folded into a shape I want?
my edges are getting folds in them as i bend. do you think that could be low quality leather(it's not bad but not the best), or just lack of practice?
What sort of glue do you use? It seems so sticky instantly. My contact cement takes for ever to get tacky to the point it could hold itself down.
I put little gum only on the edge when I'm doing that to synthetic leather, but im having a difficult when using sewing machine
Looks easy till you try it. Lots of patience for this one. ✌️
Please make a video on how to make leather shoes.
