Hi Tushar! Gr8 work, my suggestion to all using natural substrate would be stage wise.
1. Get your normal garden soil from the market.
2. Try to dry it in hot sun.
3. Clean out some debrise, use strainer size wise.
4. Clear the sizes in 3 nos.
5. Put the bigger size in the first layer/bottom layer.
6. Then medium size in next layer/second
7. Very fine would be 3 layer/top.
By the time you strain the dand many unwanted debris are out with foilage.
8. Make your scape as good as possible. Don't be shy to put your creativity and to copy other scapes.
9. Try using DSM. Chk. The properties of hardscape materials. Eg. Colour, Ph levels, chemical
infuses in water.
10. Once you are done with DSM, fill the aquarium and do water changes, 1st week should be daily 60%, with snail remover liquid. 2nd week every alternate days 50%, with snail remover liquid. 3rd week after every 3 days, 40%,with snail remover. 4th week every 5 days with 30% and in 5th week 20% only. With snail remover liquid. 6th week your aquarium is ready to roll. All the chemicals and fumes are out. Your plants have adapted the water quality and you gave achived the goal. Once you are done you may add or do water changes after a month or so. Normally I use Sump so once in 6 months that too with sump cleaning to zero water in sump and only 10% in display tank. By 3 week dash in some Shrimps and algae eaters in your tank, b4 throwing fishes. Let them clean the bottom.

Yes you can grow carpet plants in compost too

Thanks!! Sand is better, if you want go for gravel then use very fine gravel so that compost doesn't leach out in water.
@@AQUAFLORA thanks for such a prompt reply!! I have the tourmaline ceramic balls. I guess ill use compost then 1cm layer of sand and then on top of these that will give extra thickness too! And compost will get capped nicely.
At this lock down period potting soil is not available but I got vermicompost. May i start with compost or not?

Thanks !!! The smaller the aquarium the more water change is required. Other option is to reduce the quantity of fishes. Strong filter of good quality is recommended.

For aquascape should I use a background or not? I have background or should I keep it black?
More of a personal choice, i use glass film or chart paper. Black background does gives a great contrast though
Doesn't the compost get over the sand? Coz I had a tough time cleaning regularly. Everyday i would see some compost/ dirt over the sand/ gravel. I separated the sand and composed. I dried the compost in the sun. Currently I am only using sand in the aquarium. Can I grow plants on golden sand or should I reuse the compost. Pls suggest!
Atleast 1-1.5" of compost is required for healthy plant growth and then cap it with thick 1.5" of sand evenly ( Don't try to make slopes or heights) to keep it flat. An additional step you can do is to sift the compost however i never did. Once sifting is complete, spray and wet the compost and leave it for 24 hrs and then put sand/morang evenly so that compost is fully buried. Pin the plants till sand depth roots will automatically reach the compost. Ping me on my insta or comment here if you need more help. Happy Aquascaping :)

@@AQUAFLORA tahnks for the reply. planning for the regular low CO2 consuming plants....monte carlo for carpet,some mosses, Ranunculus inundatus, Rosanervig and so on....budget wise its in the middle range as planning for low tech aquarium....never had a planted tank before....i was thinking of using 2 sun sun ads 400c
Sunsun should be fine, but you need co2 for lush carpet of MC. If you're looking for cheap co2 solution watch my video on that too.

Hi I have bought this bio organic manure from urban green company can I mix it with soil and put it in the tank?
Don't mix it with soil it would give cloudy water, slit all big chunks through a net. Place 1.5 inch of manure layer and cap it with Sand or Morang/river sand
@@AQUAFLORA see I have put a layer of normal garden red soil and above that German soil(which is nothing but small red stones or red gravel I don't know what they call it) and plants have grown to an extent and have stopped so I visited a nursery near my house where I got this bio organic manure with no chemicals www.amazon.in/Multiplex-Urban-Green-Organic-Manure/dp/B072PT31FT so I was wondering if I could mix it with the lower layer of garden soil.... please check the link to see the compost I am talking about its made of neem castor cakes and stuff so is it safe? See u have used sand instead of that I am using a layer of red gravel so that the lower layer of garden red soil don't come in contact with water and make it cloudy.my question is can I add this manure to lower red soil to make it more nutritious so that the plants grow better....will it kill my fish or harm my plants....

Welcome to the hobby, you need 1inch layer of fertilizer/potting mix and 1.5 to 2 inch of layer of sand. Preferebly river sand "Morang". Sand should be organic and inert.

I am new to this hobby, ,have a question I added potting soil to my aquarium but instead of putting it below my black substrate I added it above and now when I make any changes my water gets murky. Any ideas how to avoid it. Do I add more black substrate on top or throw everything out.The water is creeping me out.

Mine is a 75 gal 5 feet long planted tank
Base is organic garden soil and capped with golden river sand.
Have added pressurized co2.
The light I currently use is Philips pll 4 tubes.
However since more than a year not able to solve brown hair algae problem.
Have added 2 siamese algae eater but the plants are struggling to grow.
Hight of the tank is 18" and the light would be around 24" above the surface of the water.
I am not looking for carpeting plants.
Basically steam plants and vallasineria
My smaller tank 2feet is doing good with amazonian Ada and a cheap 5w RS electrical led bar.

It's sometimes hard for getting rid of algae. But light is prime factor to it. Go for Sunsun ads series. How many hours you keep the lights on. It should not be more than 10 hrs.
