      You can use organic compost, I have already made a video on it. What you are using should not be used raw in the aquarium. This will significantly increase the level of ammonia in the tank and the plants will melt and die due to this. You can also follow this video and use a mixture of topsoil and organic compost in your tank.

    Big help thankyou❤. Very well explained. I make my own aquarium soils but I still have alot to learn. Part of my problem is I use a potting mix as the compost element shown here. It is not so fine and is basically decomposed wood mulch which is not really possible to filter as you would lose half of it. I think I need to learn how to compost this fine material. Looks great.

      You can grow grass in this soil very easily, all types of grasses need nutrient-rich substrate to grow properly and this soil is full of essential nutrients required for plants. These plants need moderate lighting and if you provide extra CO2, it will grow faster and healthier. Thank you.

      UA-cam's algorithm truly sucks, that it suggests after a few good videos only crap content and not channels like him, I barely see his content in my feed even after watching his videos day and night.

    As an amateur gardener, I say that your end-product is some NICE looking soil! Unfortunately, not everyone has that type in their garden. Our lawn is extremely clay-ee, but the raised beds are very dark and dense. I wonder if coir-blocks can be used? The stuff that you add water to and gets fluffy, then used for seedlings, etc.

    • @madebykm

      Yes, you can use coir dust as needed to make the soil loose and airy. Thanks.

    • @20Aleksa08
      @20Aleksa08 2 місяці тому

      Hi, I am mostly sure that red soil is ok as well, I havent used it in my aquariums as the main soil but it shouldnt affect the water quality. It has more iron in it so maybe test the water hardness and acidity after a few weeks. If you put enough sand on top it shouldnt make the water cloudy, just make sure not to disturb it when cleaning

      Hello Kaushik, after 3 months of DIY soil usage in my planted tank..often the water becomes cloudy despite cycling 30% of water every week..the plants have grown well including cryptos java Fern & Anubias but frequent cloudy ness is the issue ., what’s the solution..pls respond

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  8 місяців тому

      If the soil isn't properly covered with sand or gravel, when a fish digs into or disturbs the soil, or when the aquarium filter creates a strong water circulation, the water will become cloudy or muddy. Thus, make sure all of the soil in the tank is thoroughly covered with gravel or sand, and check to see if any of the fish, shrimp, or snails are burrowing or disturbing the soil.

      These cory catfish are the culprits, I guess 😄 You can add more clay pellets and make the layer an inch thick and see if that solves the problem.

    can i plant grass after i put gravel ? or i do it before putting the gravel

    • @madebykm

      Gravel is not suitable for hairgrass; instead, use a thin layer of sand on top of the soil, then plant the grass.

    Thank you so much for the video, I do have a question do we have to cover the soil with sand and gravel or is it fine on its own?

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  2 роки тому +1

      It is better to cover the soil with sand or gravel, because if the soil is disturbed, the water will become muddy.
