You need aqua soil for carpet. Carpet plants won't grow on the sand.
is it safe to use organic compost/dirt substrate covered with gravel for cory dora tank?

I heard the compost is very rich in nutrient.. is there a chance cory would end up sucking particles or concentrated compost water..
Yeah better use aqua soil for longer results
some people said organic soil are bad for aquarium because they will reduce the oxygen in the water
but I think it will be okay as long as there are plants

I haven't use co2 or any fertilizer but still they have grown pretty fast and healthy. If you are setting up this kind of tank than co2 is not a must but fertilizer will give you a better result.

Yeah the soil layer I had used was about 1 to 1.5 inch.

Yeah 5 kg will be enough. Links are mentioned in the description. I am not sure if river sand is available online.

Hello friend, please let me know which brand of potting organic soil should I buy? How long does it take for the tank to cycle.

I didn't cycle them
I just wash those soil until the water clear
then I add them into emptied tank
when I refill the water, it was very cloudy
so just sit down and let your filter clean the water

The sugar sand cost of ₹299 for 3kg from flipkart and I had used more than 6 kg.The other option is river sand, I made a video on it.
