I love how William Duvall and Jerry Cantrell's vocals really compliment one another. It's such a good song. Heartbreaking, but beautiful, if that makes sense.
They’re the best at harmonizing in rock/metal today, not quite Jerry/Layne level but still fantastic and they have incredibly good chemistry. Never understood the hate for Duvall especially because he pairs so well with Jerry.

Will is awesome, shame there are so many so called Alice In Chains fans out there who still talk shit about him, he’s not Layne but he is a great musician who has fantastic chemistry with Jerry and he’s a great person who’s very appreciative of the fans. This song is for my mother's passing. She ruined her life with alcohol and drug dependency. She became what she became as I grew older as a child, but she wasn't always that way. I don't miss my mother, but I do miss my Mommie.

I think people just have a hard time accepting that it's a new AIC. I don't really care for the new stuff either as I'm stuck in the stuff I grew up on with them. With that being said, it's to no blame on William's part. He is very talented and has opened a new chapter for them. For me it's the same reason why I can't really listen to Metallica anymore either, the music just changed too much.

What a fitting tribute to Layne by the ones who knew him best. How Jerry and Sean got through this song without losing it is beyond me. I started sobbing inconsolably after the first verse. Haunted by your ghost every day
This is right up there with what makes me love the dark, grim reality of what made AIC and makes them a force a force of fucking nature. Dark, sad lyrics that if you know the story of this band, or am a combat vet like me whose head is fucked up from the shit we had to deal with, this one really gets to you, me personally. Duvall in my eyes knows exactly the shoes he had to fill, and will never be a true replacement. He fits in better with this outfit than any other current signer I can think of. They carry on his legacy just as Metallica carries Cliff’s. Similar tragedies but the fans and bands themselves keep each these two alive. It’s a beautiful thing. Staley’s touches home, like I’m sure millions of others are touched.

I went to Lolapalloza in 1992 as a fan of Tool. Left there a fan of Alice in chains. No joke. I had AIC playing in my car for months and months after that show. Their music just doesn't get old.
Sometimes there are very dark and challenging times in life. And it may seems that things will never get better. But if you stay strong and keep moving forward and look up over the horizon. You start to see a little point of life way out there. And slowly Black gives way to blue. Things going to start feel better. Hold on to hope and keep moving forward to that light

Simply an amazing song with voice that just blend seamlessly. I saw them years ago at Hershey Pa and I think they had just formed or not that long ago. I was thinking oh well I love Cantrell's voice but the new singer isn't going to do the band justice. Well I was wrong he was amazing. He can't replace Layne but it is a wonderful addition of an amazing band.

I just watched a video on that, which was just released by a dude who does these pieces on the grunge musicians . . . mostly focusing on AIC. it was about 50 minutes long, and it explains very well why no one could save Layne. He had such a loving and supportive family. It is so sad. His mom explained why no one could help him very well. Layne needed to withdraw from the music industry and take like a three year sabbatical . . . he was SO young when he started using, and fame happened so fast. The music industry can be very sleazy and predatory. Layne couldn't take that three year sabbatical because he had contracts, and felt the pressure of a 40+ person payroll all depending on him to sing, and he was a good man. So he felt this pressure. All of the rehabs were happy to accept the checks, but had no policies in place to support relapses. Putting a young man back into the shark tank before he learned how to deal with sharks . . . well, this is what led to his death. Layne was in rehab many, many times. The sad thing is that if he had gone to rehab for a longer time, and learned how to deal with the triggers and intensity of what he was dealing with, he would still be with us. He didn't want to die. He loved his family . . . his genetic family, and his brothers in the band. Everyone says he was literally the most hilarious band member, and so light hearted. His mother said if he hadn't gone into the music industry and done some kind of regular job, she would not love him one iota less, and that he is with her every moment of the day. That is the kind of son he was. He was also a very dear brother. It's such a huge loss. If the industry had supported him in taking a sabbatical, he would likely be playing today with them . . . it took them almost a decade to come back after he withdrew from public life and gave up.
Will is a very good guitar player, he’s not some crazy shredder or anything but he’s great on the acoustic and is a very good live player on both electric and acoustic. Very glad Jerry brought him in to play guitar as well as sing instead of just had him singing like Layne did outside of a few songs. The extra guitar adds a nice fullness to their music when you see them live. Anyway Duvall is a great musician and a really good person, very happy he’s in the band

This song is both beautiful and painful at the same time. It hurts because I know this is Jerry's goodbye to Layne...and it's also beautiful because it's Jerry's goodbye to Layne. "Tomorrow's Forcing a goodbye." Is the line that got me. I had a good friend of mine commit suicide not long ago, and the reality is when you lose someone like that to a drug overdose or hanging themselves...those of us left behind understand these words. It doesn't matter how or what method the person leaving too soon left...it just matters that it's a reminder that tomorrow is promised to no one...and that some times tomorrow's force a goodbye that was unexpected. And it's those unexpected death's that sometimes hit harder than the one's we are expecting...because it's the unexpected death's that remind us just how fragile life is... AIC will never sound the same without Layne, but I'm not hating on Duvall like many of you are...because there's no one that could ever replace Layne. I am, however, glad that AIC is making music again.

Jerry and Sean really loved Layne and I’m glad all these later they’re still respectfully honoring him and his legacy. I just ran across this performance on YT, yesterday. I knew of the song, but hadn't really cared alot about much in the last 15 years or so. I guess I was living in magically isolated days of addiction with my husband.We operated on auto pilot for so long. But now, I'm at the controls again, and it's all just numbing, no magic, no where to hide and noone to protect/b protected by. But catching up, and this is so emotional to hear.But I have to be very careful as I still long to put on those rose colored glasses and romanticize the truth.I hope there is someone who can relate to this, or I may still be a screwed up wreck in denial.

This is right up there with what makes me love the dark, grim reality of what made AIC and makes them a force a force of fucking nature. Dark, sad lyrics that if you know the story of this band, or am a combat vet like me whose head is fucked up from the shit we had to deal with, this one really gets to you, me personally. Duvall in my eyes knows exactly the shoes he had to fill, and will never be a true replacement. He fits in better with this outfit than any other current signer I can think of. They carry on his legacy just as Metallica carries Cliff’s. Similar tragedies but the fans and bands themselves keep each these two alive. It’s a beautiful thing. Staley’s touches home, like I’m sure millions of others are touched.

Curtains drawn now it's done... Must kill Jerry to sing that. I'm emotionally broken every time I hear this. I feel so heartbroken for Jerry and Layne. But praise God AIC still totally remain AIC. My gratitude and condolences to ALL the AIC family including fans of this unstoppable amazing group of musicians. RIP Layne and Mike. 😊

I went to Lolapalloza in 1992 as a fan of Tool. Left there a fan of Alice in chains. No joke. I had AIC playing in my car for months and months after that show. Their music just doesn't get old.
Only reason I went to Kiss in 1996 Detroit was to see AIC and then left the show so happy and more!!!

Simply an amazing song with voice that just blend seamlessly. I saw them years ago at Hershey Pa and I think they had just formed or not that long ago. I was thinking oh well I love Cantrell's voice but the new singer isn't going to do the band justice. Well I was wrong he was amazing. He can't replace Layne but it is a wonderful addition of an amazing band.

I just watched a video on that, which was just released by a dude who does these pieces on the grunge musicians . . . mostly focusing on AIC. it was about 50 minutes long, and it explains very well why no one could save Layne. He had such a loving and supportive family. It is so sad. His mom explained why no one could help him very well. Layne needed to withdraw from the music industry and take like a three year sabbatical . . . he was SO young when he started using, and fame happened so fast. The music industry can be very sleazy and predatory. Layne couldn't take that three year sabbatical because he had contracts, and felt the pressure of a 40+ person payroll all depending on him to sing, and he was a good man. So he felt this pressure.
All of the rehabs were happy to accept the checks, but had no policies in place to support relapses. Putting a young man back into the shark tank before he learned how to deal with sharks . . . well, this is what led to his death. Layne was in rehab many, many times. The sad thing is that if he had gone to rehab for a longer time, and learned how to deal with the triggers and intensity of what he was dealing with, he would still be with us. He didn't want to die. He loved his family . . . his genetic family, and his brothers in the band. Everyone says he was literally the most hilarious band member, and so light hearted. His mother said if he hadn't gone into the music industry and done some kind of regular job, she would not love him one iota less, and that he is with her every moment of the day. That is the kind of son he was. He was also a very dear brother. It's such a huge loss. If the industry had supported him in taking a sabbatical, he would likely be playing today with them . . . it took them almost a decade to come back after he withdrew from public life and gave up.

Will is a very good guitar player, he’s not some crazy shredder or anything but he’s great on the acoustic and is a very good live player on both electric and acoustic. Very glad Jerry brought him in to play guitar as well as sing instead of just had him singing like Layne did outside of a few songs. The extra guitar adds a nice fullness to their music when you see them live. Anyway Duvall is a great musician and a really good person, very happy he’s in the band

in september/october i lost three of my family members and another in november. after my cousins funeral we all sat outside and listened to this and shared a joint in his memory. i can’t ever listen to this song without it reminding me of one of the hardest times in my life. so beautifully written, but goddamn is it a tear jerker.

This song is both beautiful and painful at the same time. It hurts because I know this is Jerry's goodbye to Layne...and it's also beautiful because it's Jerry's goodbye to Layne. "Tomorrow's Forcing a goodbye." Is the line that got me. I had a good friend of mine commit suicide not long ago, and the reality is when you lose someone like that to a drug overdose or hanging themselves...those of us left behind understand these words. It doesn't matter how or what method the person leaving too soon left...it just matters that it's a reminder that tomorrow is promised to no one...and that some times tomorrow's force a goodbye that was unexpected. And it's those unexpected death's that sometimes hit harder than the one's we are expecting...because it's the unexpected death's that remind us just how fragile life is...
AIC will never sound the same without Layne, but I'm not hating on Duvall like many of you are...because there's no one that could ever replace Layne.
I am, however, glad that AIC is making music again.

Jerry and Sean really loved Layne and I’m glad all these later they’re still respectfully honoring him and his legacy. I’m very glad Jerry was able to overcome his own demons and get cleaned up so he is still around today, wish Layne would’ve been able to do the same.

I just ran across this performance on YT, yesterday. I knew of the song, but hadn't really cared alot about much in the last 15 years or so. I guess I was living in magically isolated days of addiction with my husband.We operated on auto pilot for so long. But now, I'm at the controls again, and it's all just numbing, no magic, no where to hide and noone to protect/b protected by. But catching up, and this is so emotional to hear.But I have to be very careful as I still long to put on those rose colored glasses and romanticize the truth.I hope there is someone who can relate to this, or I may still be a screwed up wreck in denial.
