That main sticker on the cover page is gorgeous. :O The additional decoration you chose really fit well with it and tie it all together very well. I also really love the spread you made for All Systems Red.

I started reading ACOTAR because of your reading journal videos and I am SO GRATEFUL to you for introducing me to this series! I studied literature in university and had this idea that I 'shouldn't read fantasy' because of my degree, even though I really wanted to. Then I heard you talking about it with such enthusiasm and sinxe I trusted your opinion, I finally decided I would give it a try and I have been completely hooked ever since! Thank you so so so much for your genuine enthusiasm about those books!!

In March I read all 3 books from folk of the air series and I like them 😁 I like the world that Holly has created.
I did see the cover for Murderbot book and I'm interested in adding it on my MAYBE NEXT to read.

The new layout is still so creative and amazing. I love them! When you were doing the spread for The Man in the High Castle I thought it was funny how you were telling us the summary while adding cute stickers on the page. The book sounds so depressing but the cute stickers kept distracting me 😂

I completely agree with you on The Wicked King. Had the hardest time understanding why they do what they do. Book 3 answered lots of my questions, though. Kept reading because of Jude and Cardan

Beautiful spreads as always! 🥰 I read The Folk of the Air last year, and found it so refreshing compared to ACOTAR series, which I also read around the same time. I rooted for Jude way more than Feyre, and was grateful for minimal 'spice' (I found it increasingly awkward and ew in ACOTAR haha). It's so interesting how lots of people just don't gel with the characters of Judr, Carden etc. I thought their relationship was odd but that kind of made me more interested to see where it went.

Good for you reading Phillip Dick. I’m impressed when your generation reads earlier works of literature. I was born in the 60s and love reading classics. They give one insight into how people/cultures were at the time. I recommend you read East of Eden by John Steinbeck if you get a chance.
    BTW I love Inuysha also

Oh absolutely, I completely agree that reading older literature offers insight into culture at that time. I think it’s sometimes a challenge for me to read these older books from other countries because not only is there a culture difference due to time, but also location. Thank you so much for the recommendation!☺️

The Hanfu set! Yeah, it's kind of an odd set to use, but excellent use of the flower parts! Even though you do think you struggle with blue-toned spreads, the Wicked King spread is lovely💙 Yes! Murderbot!! Love them, and it's such a fun series to read with the combination of shorter novellas and longer novels. (in book 2, Murderbot meets ART, who is EXCELLENT). Love how you used the mushroom theme on the Man in the High Castle (not my favorite PKD title, I do like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, aka Blade Runner). I'm using the monthly tabs from the hinoki "into the new year" set for my reading journal.

I know a lot of people like the first Cruel Prince book the best and the third book the least, but I had the opposite experience. I had to look at spoilers for the first two books in order for me to keep reading. Like, I'd read block for block what happens up until a point that actually interested me, then I'd read the book to get to that point and see what happened with that interesting point. The THIRD book, however, I actually really enjoyed! It was the only one I wasn't bored with, and I hope that's your experience, too!
If you think about reading the sequel duology starting with The Stolen Heir, it was also boring. I'm still going to read the sequel, but The Queen of Nothing is the best book in that series.

I actually really liked The Cruel Prince and had a great experience reading it with friends, but I got so stressed out reading The Wicked King when it came out that I still haven't gotten around to the third book, lol. I just thought it was every character making every possible wrong decision, and it was exhausting. Now it's been years and I barely remember anything, but I kind of want to read the spinoff duology, so I feel like I should finish it.

I ended up reading all of the books in The Cruel Prince series in March since it was the Patreon book club’s pick and I felt the same way you did. It just felt too young to me and I was pretty frustrated with the characters’ choices. I did decide to see it through and overall thought the series was decent.

  • @piafitoussi

Yeah, Philip K Dick is a genius, and a lot of sci-fi movies are based on his work (Minority Report, Blade Runner...), but it's not very comfortable to read, even for real fans.
If you want other thought experiments that are more readable, I would recommend Ursula K Le Guin's Hainish Cycle, maybe The Word for World is Forest, because it's short, so you can test her writing, but also very pretty. She's one of the most important sci-fi writers in History, she's a feminist, and she knows how to use sociology, philosophy, politics... in a way that makes you FEEL them, not think coldly about it. Maybe you've heard of Earthsea? It's one of her series too, about natural magic and responsibility, but in an alternate universe, very beautiful too.
And in a more modern style, Meljean Brooke's cycle of the Iron Seas BLEW my mind, her world building was so crazy. The individual novels are all based on a love story/romance, but the world itself is ours in the 19th century, except the Mongolian empire discovered a nano-technology in the 16th century and have taken over the world. It's steampunk, it's about race, and oppression, and handicap, and sexism, and it's also EPIC. So smart, and so exciting, and with well fleshed characters, I'm a huge fan.

So glad you enjoyed All Systems Red - no spoilers but the world building does develop. I like Do Androids dream of electric sheep? By Philip K Dick but haven’t read his other books, thanks for the review. At 63 years old I have finally read 1984 by George Orwell (finished today) and was fascinated and appalled at the same time. The people who lived through WW2 were really affected by it - not surprisingly. My favourite male American authors from a bit later are Robert Silverberg (particularly his Majipoor series) and Gene Wolfe (Books of the new sun). One of the things I love about them is the fantastic language and vocabulary they use, so descriptive.
Your spreads were gorgeous this month - love the sidebar and the quotes. I really love the way you make your spreads using those coloured dots, book strips, etc to enhance those beautiful stickers. 💖

This is my first reading journal (vlog) experience! I got curious how they look like bc I've observed that bujo girlies also have reading journals. I love the spreads! And I super relate to the struggle in liking YA books. I'm in my late 20s and I still have a lot of YA books that I didn't get to read when I was still in school - I got so busy, but what keeps me from reading them now is that I'm in a different age with a different mindset. I'm sure I'd be annoyed by some of the characters. But watching this getting to write my own reviews of the books I read makes me want to actually get into reading again. I'm surprised Rinne is here too! I super love Inuyasha and a friend recommended Rinne as well. I totally forgot about it until now! 😂 I miiiight pick up on this soon hahaha! Another hobby for me to get into 😆😆 Thank you for sharing your art and thoughts on these books! 💖

I also didn’t love the Holly black series. So many people love it but the story didn’t do it for me. I’m not really into FanRo either, prefer my romance in the background but I hate hate hated the primary romance SO MUCH. lol
Murderbot… I’m obsessed with them. lol. Being in their mind is so fun. I’ve read the first 4 or 5… looking forward to continuing, too. ❤️❤️

I definitely feel like there’s a difference between morally gray characters and having no characters you like or identify with. Personally, if there’s no one in a book that I want to root for (whether or not they are a morally good person) then I’m not really very engaged with the book

  • @KimTaehee_95

I completely understand where you're coming from. It's perfectly fine to have a different opinion about books, and it's great that you and your friend have different tastes. Personally, I also felt underwhelmed after reading the entire series despite hearing so many good things about it. Your age has nothing to do with your experience. I turned 18 this March and can understand where you are coming from because I feel the same, this series just didn't resonate with me despite being a young adult and that's ok.

The surname Dick is actually not American but many are found in Great Britain and Scotland. As an American I found your comment kind of offensive. Maybe I just misunderstood you.
