You shouldn’t force yourself to read something that doesn’t bring you any pleasure. DNFing is more than okay and good for your head, forcing yourself on the hope of something good most of the times just gets you slumpy and disappointed, in my experience at least. Reading is supposed to be fun and exciting, never something you dread to do ❤
Was actually coming I the comments to say the exact same thing... normalize DNFing books if your not liking a story and it's killing you to get through it.... stop and move onto something you may like more.😊😊
Completely agree about Atlas Complex. I listened to the audiobook while travelling and by the end, I was so annoyed at every character and every scene that I couldn't actually care less what happened... but I had invested all that time getting to 75% of the last book that I just forced the finish. I disliked it greatly. Thank you for sharing what you said. It made me feel seen!!
i feel like it had such a promising concept/characters in the beginning but it really dragged by the end of the first book and i tried the second book and i was like nah this isnt it
Omg I’m SO excited you know That Character I was talking about!!😆 and thank you for all the compliments🥹 So I finished the last Atlas book (this video was filmed a few weeks ago), and I’m sad to say the ending was NOT worth it😂 sadly I think I won’t ever pick up a Blake book again because of this series, but oh well. I did feel kind of accomplished when I finally finished reading it though, kind of like finishing a college assignment I’ve been struggling with for a long time😂
I agree with your thoughts on the Dragon’s Promise, it pivoted so much that there didn’t feel like there was any connection with the previous aside from the characters, and even they changed. Seryu coming in and out of the story was odd to me, i don’t get the title for that reason. “A Mother’s Promise” would have made more sense. I didn’t even realize the Atlas Complex came out, I had to force myself through book #2 as well so i’m not in a hurry to read this one. Book 1 had such a good premise but book 2 fell flat.
I bought a kindle and added manga too I stopped buying because of space as well as books and I LOVE have all my books manga and novels in one place I do buy my favorite and have a small space for them
I skipt the part about Yellowface I count read it in few days :) I fell the same about the dragon promise. I read on physical support (not the first) and maybe it explain why it seems to me so looong. I will try her réécriture about Mulan in some days. Hope it will be a good moment :)
Hi Hedda! I absolutely LOVED Yellowface, I just couldn’t stop listening to it. I struggle to find motivation to go to the gym so I “reward” myself by listening to an audiobook when I go, and with Yellowface I think it was the week I hit the gym the most!
LIfe is too short to read books you don't like. I'm about to start Yellowface and have Babel on my kindle as well. I adore the setups you did this month. :)
🐟great spreads ❤❤❤ love them, I’m impressed you managed to read a book that you didn’t like… or maybe you listen to it… but still… I normally if I don’t like it, I will stop straight away…
Exit Strategy is my favourite! Not because the rest aren't good also, but just because of the particular plot line and characters in this one. It's a pretty key development for Murderbot as well. Have a great time in Japan! 🐟
I haven’t read any of the books you did but it’s always nice to see what others are reading and add a book to the TBR list 🤗 I was more focussed on fantasy and historical fiction in May 🤗
It is good to know about Yellowface, because I have seen this book everywhere and didn't know what it was about until now. That's really good to learn about. Wow! it makes me want to read it now. Thank you. I have read Rumiko Takahashi's works like Uretsei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, and Maison Ikoku. . . .but I have never read Rin Me! I must look into it now. Seiryuu. . .the dragon you mention reminds me of the manga series Fushigi Yuugi (The Mysterious Play) where they talk about a dragon of the same name! Makes me interested in the book you mentioned. I have come to a point to not finish books I can't get into. It wastes my time and I'd rather spend it reading something I might enjoy instead. Thanks for the video. Gorgeous spreads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how you do them all.
I really love the cover spread. The sticker is really beautiful, and the colours of all the tapes and ephemera work so beautifully together. I also really like the spread for Atlas Complex. The different hues of blues are so nice and soothing, and my favourite is the two cats under the umbrella sticker. 🐟💙
🐠 Always love your reading journal vlogs. You are brave to commit to continue reading I book you aren’t enjoying. I cannot do that. I usually journal about the reasons why I disliked the book. 😅
I always used to finish books when I was younger - I think I thought that if I had paid for them, I couldn’t ‘waste’ them.😂 Nowadays I think I don’t have time to read something awful! Ahh aging…. 😂😂 I have just started reading Philip K. Dick, the three stigmata of Palmer Eldritch - enjoying it though you have to ignore all the sexism etc. as it was published in 1964, I think. Such interesting ideas though. Will have to check out Yellowface - it keeps coming up on my recommendations list.🐡🐠🐟
I love your videos, these spreads are so pretty and I adore your chat. I just can't force myself when a book is not getting my attention...so many other good books out there! When I was teaching, I encourage students discontinue a book they didn't like and get another...I wanted them to learn to like reading.
What beautiful spreads you made in your reading journal! You have inspired me to pull out my own reading journal and get creating myself. You make the whole process look so easy. I love your collage technique. It is so amazing how you pull all the different pieces together to make this gorgeous page! I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for such a great video today!💖💖💖
I live in France, but my partner lives in Denmark, so whenever I visit him I go to Muji in Copenhagen and stock up. There's a Muji in Paris but I am not a huge fan of Paris lol. 🐡
Hi, I have the second book in the Atlas series because it was on sale as a ebook. I wantes to buy the first one now to begin reading. But now I hesitate to buy the first book and pay full price (€ 14,99) 😕
All the pages are so beautiful! Yourre always an inspiration to my journaling style. The way you started journaling about you mangas really encouraged me to write about all the fanfiction I read - my RJ is getting quite chunky 😛 I totally agree with you about the Atlas series. I really wanted to like it, it was so promising! I've been struggling to start book 2 for more than a year now (and I still don't know if I will). It's sad to hear that it doesn't get any better. My word for it would be: pretentious! 🐠
You should do it! I have two different files with the CAWPILE system to rate what I read, one for books and one for fanfics. I also dedicated my bookshelfie to my fanfics, since I track my books with another system.
@@MabruBlack That's so nice! I started adding fanfics to my RJ in Nov of last year. I mostly read 100k+ words fics, so I count them as books. It's been nice. It will help me with re-reads and just remembering stuff. I've never used the CAWPILE system, but I'll look into it. THanks!
I felt the EXACT same way about the atlas 6. We literally have the same opinions on it! Couldn’t agree more with what you’re saying. Talk about writing going no where! I feel like I feel trap to booktok. If a plot needs 3 books to “redeem” itself, then it’s not a solid plot!
It also didn’t redeem itself😭 The ending was just as bad and pointless🥲 I’m pretty sure I picked up the first one after reading good things about it online, but I can’t understand why anyone would give these books high ratings🥹
I don’t have a link, unfortunately. It was a gift that came with the pre-orders of Gretel Lusky’s art book🥹 You might be able to find it elsewhere though, or maybe even directly message her on Instagram for example☺️ Her username is @gretlusky ❤️
🐟Totally agree with you on both the Dragon's Promise and the Atlas Complex reviews. The latter just makes it seem like the author is trying to prove themselves as a philosophical larger-than-life deep thinker. Disliked it thoroughly. Did not DNF because it physically hurts me to DNF. Haven't gotten into manga yet so maybe this video is my inspiration to try
YES exactly this!! It’s trying too hard to be profound and philosophical and just fails completely. It just goes in circles and ends up nowhere. I’m glad I saw it through to the end because now I’ve validated for myself that the whole series was bad haha😆
i really want become a patreon but i cant find where i find out what level gives what so i try and figure out whats better for me. can you help? thanks, Carla
Hi Carla! There is a short list of what’s included in each tier when you go to www.patreon.com/mochibujo/membership ☺️ I hope that helps! If not, please let me know, and I’ll try to explain it better☺️
i read yellowface last month and wanted so bad to like it cause it was my first rf kuang and had heard nothing but good things about her. and my friend gave it a high rating like you did but oof. i think i just disliked juniper so much that it ruined whatever the story was trying to say. all i could focus on was how unlikable she was and that ending twist just made me eye roll. 🐠

i feel like it had such a promising concept/characters in the beginning but it really dragged by the end of the first book and i tried the second book and i was like nah this isnt it
I always enjoy your videos. There is no shame in not finishing a book or series. There is so little time and so many good books. 🐠
I love how your intros include a clip of something from the city you live in or are in 💕 The manga spread is so pretty!!!
Oh my, the collages and layouts in this month

Ooh that’s amazing!! Yellowface would be such a good book for the gym - the perfect amount of suspense and drama!😎
Yesss! And imaginé my face expressions on the treadmill during the stairs scene 😂 it must have been hilarious to watch!

If I keep reading bad books she might have to come out more often😂
The Atlas Six for me was kind of boring. I agree with you on your thoughts. It really is nonsense lol
Hey could you send the link for the sticker on the cover page please and thank you.
