Amazes me how thorough you are. My biggest flaw is trying to rush and get out of there to the next disaster. I've made more mistakes in a week than I've seen you make watching every one of your videos. Keep setting great examples for the young guys.
Thanks Troy, this machine had a couple other people on it before me, I had to figure out what was wrong, I spent all day there the first trip and technically I spent all day there the second time going back because this was located about 2 hours from my area, that's 4 hours total for the day plus labor. There's no benefit to rushing if it causes you to make mistakes, they might not like how long it takes you to be sure you got it but they really don't like it if they have to pay you to go back to do it again a second time.
You made me look, to see why they wanted the Danfoss. Danfoss also a solid core, looks very similar to the Sporlan from the cut away. I've been very stubborn about only using Sporlan, but that changes my mind.
I’m going off what I was told from the factory while on the phone with them. Any drier may work but how good does it work is to be determined on someone’s else warranty job🤫😁
It always amazes me, But the manufacturers never seem to think about having to service the gear. I don't care what gear it is, Refrigeration, electrical, Mechanical, They just don't seem to think about having To ever get back into it to work on it. And then its the guys out in the field, Who get stuck trying to come up with miracle solutions, When just a little bit of forethought at the factory would have saved everybody a whole bunch of headache!
Rick can work on anything and fixit right the first time. Yet the microphone confused the heck out of him /LoL. I guess that's proof that he wasn't over thinking the job. I like watching your work routine.
Spoke with tech support on these hot gas valves during harvest long as you have 75 suction and up that let’s you know you have hot gas passing through the valves another way to test is it you have 34 degrees on t3 and t4 which is the sensor going to your txv your valves are working as well
Nice job. This was a lot of work. This fix should last a long time. I'm just amazed that it was even running at all with a squeezed down fitting on the roof.
The funny thing is, Manitowoc would send you a special bracing rod with certain compressors, but using 15% you can do a lot, even brass to copper, and copper to steel Also, great video as always man!
My favorite channel, I find 98% of how you do your work is exactly how I would handle it as well. Maybe it’s our age (29 years in the trade) deep it up!
I just did a pump down solenoid and a defrost solenoid on a McDonald’s 1200lb remote manitowoc. Wasn’t fun standing up on the drink station trying to work behind it. Not a fun job.
Talking good brazing, I can’t wait to hear your reaction, the company I work at, when I started working their 13 years ago, they brazed with propane. YES PROPANE!!!! The flame was about 6” long, the torch tip was probably 3/4” in diameter. After a few months I brought my acetylene setup in. Now everyone has an acetylene setup. We came a long way in 13 years 😂 but still no oxy acetylene
Manitowoc strongly recommends that when replacing the cool gas valve that you replaced both of them at the same time due to possible contamination the system even though it is a pain in the buttocks it is highly recommended highly highly recommended but it is what it is when it comes down to Customer cost
That’s interesting because I was speaking with them on the phone and they did not recommend replacing both of them that was my original intent, but they said, no, it’s not needed
I was told at factory training class that you arnt supposed to use a standard filter drier. When it switch from freeze to harvest the flow could flow backwards in the filter drier and eventually it will break apart or get damaged. A bi- flow filter drier would be a better option if you don’t have a factory filter. But who knows maybe they just want you to buy the filter drier from them.
Great Video Rick! I need to get one of those tips for my torch. Looks like it Wouk work awesome for some of those tight TXV placements on the zero zone and Hussman reach ins.
Yeah buddy....great video Rick.....i have the hilmor swage and a few months ago i noticed they had the larger heads....so i plopped the money down and bought the 1⅛,1⅜,1⅝,2⅛ heads. Haven't used them yet....but it'll be awesome when i do. As for the content of this video.....top notch as always. I gotta get me some of them thar free tools....i will go broke if left to my own devices. 😂😅
We have some driers where the manufacturer must put some sort of coating on the stubs that prevent the brasing rod to stick and take . I clean the sh*t out of it with sand paper and use silver rod to brase it and it's fine , but the 1st time i had to learn the hard way 😅
Hey Guy. We have an ice machine that will not Harvest on its own. We called Manitowoc. They recommended spraying evap with cooking spray to determine whether or not ice was forming behind grid or if there was a plate issue. We put cooking spray and it dumped perfect sheets of ice. Descaled evaporator under heavy solution . No luck. Upon inspection there is definite discoloration on evaporator but no copper color seen. We just gonna replace evaporator or unit at this point. Any advice would be appreciated.
There is other things to make sure of first but without seeing it’s kinda hard. I like to make sure there’s no refrigerant issues, then if that’s not it then it could be the evaporator plate.
I’m not in your trade, but I noticed you were worried about the heat getting to that one part. Why don’t he either design them to be able to withstand the heat, or give you longer tails so the heat from brazing is farther away?
Thanks for asking. I listed it in the description now. You'll want the handle or you might have problems with poping. If you use the link I get a finders fee you still pay the same price.
I'm considering buying a Manitowoc IYT0450A-161 Indio to replace my Hoshizaki km-201bah because I need a bigger machine. I only use the ice for my soda and food coolers in my hot dog trailer, so the ice is not used in drinks. I'll use approximately 160 pounds to 210 pounds a day, depending on the weather. Would you reccomend doing a chemical cleaning twice a year and a take apart cleaning once a year for what I use it for? It'll be in my basement, where it's always cool. My Hoshizaki is in the garage so the melted ice goes directly outside with a pipe, but where I'm putting the new one, I'll have to put in a drain pump. The garage also gets hotter during the summer. Would you reccomend a Hoshizaki that's equivalent to the Manitowoc or is the Manitowoc good enough?
The number one thing that takes these ice machines down is not being cleaned. That being said one of the things that really hurts them is being an environment that has a lot of yeast from breads, and that causes a breeding ground for the nasty crap that grows in there, but if you're not gonna have this around the food, then it won't get as bad as quick, my feeling is if you clean it lightly more often it doesn't take as much effort to keep it clean versus waiting till it's built up with a lot of gunk and then scrub the living snot out of it. Both machines are great machines. We sell Manitowoc and I've service plenty of Hoshis. I've had some problems diagnosing the Hoshis, but I have been through their class and they're very well-built machine. They do seem to be more resilient to problems. However they are more money and that's why we sell more Manitowoc. Personally, if you don't wanna invest a lotta money get the manitowoc they work just fine. We lease them for 5 years and dont have that many problems.
@@HVACRSurvival Thanks for responding! It would be kept in my basement, that not humid, nor hot and isn't around any food. Thanks for the advice and they seem relatively easy to clean. The usage won't be like a restaurant, so twice a year should be okay.
Is it recommended to use nitrogen when brazing so that you do not get carbon buildup inside of the pipe, which plugs up, expansion valves, and filter dryers.
Danfoss valves pieces of junk Had to change all 4 on a quadzilla before. Had to deinstall the fucking machine to get to them they had about 6 inches of the machine sticking through a deip ceiling 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good clean work Rick

Great video, sound wasn't that bad I heard everything you said. Thanks!
I think it depends on what type of device you are listening on but thank you for the feedback!
Great job Rick. Don't miss working on Manitowoc ice machines. lol!

Also, great video as always man!
That was my standard dyna-flow
Man it feels good when it works properly after all that 🎉🎉🎉🎉

🤣 your probably right.
I just did a pump down solenoid and a defrost solenoid on a McDonald’s 1200lb remote manitowoc. Wasn’t fun standing up on the drink station trying to work behind it. Not a fun job.
Pick up one of those tips this summer .. works quite well..
Another great job Rick
I switched companies gonna be getting into refrigeration...
I love refrigeration, it's like plumbing because it doesn't care about the weather.
As always sir you did a great job. As far as the sound, it didn't matter. I am deaf in one ear and can't here iut of the other !
I think I heard you 😉😉
The sound was good and the video was very informative thanks for the video

I only had a 163 bi flow. Kinda big
Great Video Rick! I need to get one of those tips for my torch. Looks like it Wouk work awesome for some of those tight TXV placements on the zero zone and Hussman reach ins.
You're right, it takes a little to learn but it makes it much easier.
Great job Rick, I have the same Viper heat shield, Works great.
Made it all the way through, as always! Thanks for the video! I like the torch tip you use. Seems to make it so much easier in tight spaces.
How can I check why I don't get any water to the the water pan and how can I check if the pump is working
On my ice maker machine
Sequence of elimination is key. Use your meter and verify if water is coming into the machine.
Thanks for another excellent video. Love watching and learning from your channel. All the best
Thanks so much!
Nice work Rick.

My favorite ice machine, would take Manitowoc over Hoshi or Ice-O-Matic any day
Agreed 💯

good job!
What torches?? i love those handles!
Do you have a part number for these torch tips? Does it come in a set? Thx

Love the channel brother you do a great job
I appreciate that!
👍💪🇺🇸❄️ nice work. Good to know u can use 15% rod on metal valve with copper coating inside n brazing to copper. Thanks
It said as little as 5% 😁 and that's great because I think that was all mine was.
I’m not in your trade, but I noticed you were worried about the heat getting to that one part. Why don’t he either design them to be able to withstand the heat, or give you longer tails so the heat from brazing is farther away?
The tail is about the easiest way to reduce the heat
Very nice
Have you ever used StayBrite 8 on those heat sensitive components? Nitrogen not needed.
Used to use it all the time long ago for AC line sets, but will not work over top of something that's already been brazed.
I m surprised with your brazing skills man. Also is your oxy ace set up the 'uniweld' one?
Good job, keep it up!!
Thank you! Yes the handle and tips are unweld. I tried to get them to support me by sending me each item but they didn't.
What's the name and size that brazing tip you have Did not see it in your list of tools Thanks
Thanks for asking. I listed it in the description now. You'll want the handle or you might have problems with poping. If you use the link I get a finders fee you still pay the same price.
What are your magic pliers called? I bought a cheap flat jaw Milwaukee from the orange store but it's definitely not the same thing lol
Are you talking about the plier wrenches with a flat jaw? Knipex?
@@HVACRSurvival yeah that's the one

First guess, divider slats on evaporator may be loose, hanging up ice harvest. Just sayin, seen it, been there !! 😮😮
Can it be braze with the Nitrogen inside same time
Is it recommended to use nitrogen when brazing so that you do not get carbon buildup inside of the pipe, which plugs up, expansion valves, and filter dryers.
where you get that nitrogen tank?? Why is united giving me these 120 lb missiles?
Local supplier
the scale is a great tool to use, just weigh the rec.tank,16 oz is nothing ,when you a drinking beer,LOL.
🤣🍺 true 👍👍
put-in-bay ehh... 🙃

too funny, at least you didn't install the filter drier backwards or worse. 🤡🤡
