Well, at least you believe in doing a quality job unlike Carrier. It's nice to know that there are still people who actually care about the quality of their work. Nice job Rick.
I run a business and do the technical service work for another contractor in town that sales Bosch inverter systems for residential customers. I see so much electrical damage I stopped installing standard surge protectors and went to the ICM493 surge/voltage controls. Burnt boards dont seem to be much of a problem since i started that.
Hey Rick just wanted to mention your Mitsubishi Evap coil video really helped out before I went an did one. If you do any similar residential work, please post! 4 yr service tech here, thank you!
Great work!! 1. Don't know why they don't make linebackers standard. 2. We just installed an R-32 skid chiller and it was a joke from order to install and commissioning. 3. You get that quality of warranty repair when you've punched out the bottom of the barrel and have dug down into the dirt below the barrel. 4. 1 little nit-pick, I would have used insulated spade connectors, high voltage (L1-L2-L3).
@ the trade needs it, the views you are getting are more valuable than others,IMO, that’s just my mindset but I do know where your coming from. Keep up the great work, you are making a difference whether you see it or not.
i installed these up at a remote farm that was having over/undervoltages, the smaller icm phase monitors without the display kept tripping, these have more in depth tweaks & settings so it actually fixed the issue.
Great jibe, I like those monitors but I do wish you could connect the load side of more than one contactor. Add in a ICM 530 series surge protector and you’ve done more than the factory. Carrier commercial is just barely better than a Daikin/Goodman commercial unit for a lot more $$$
Great video Rick. Easy insurance against power issues. That level of work was awful. No pride at all in their work. You weren’t to far from me, where you were at.
I remember back when working for manufacturing plant like 2007 Trane decided to put phase monitors in every commercial package unit due to installers never checking the phases burning up compressors…grated they were not that fancy….before that they were an add on option…but due to warranties they mandated it…compressor warranties droped by 75% if that says something about installers
Our company stopped buying Toshiba/Carrier VRF stuff because support is absolutely horrible. It took a year to get a critical warranty part. With VRV/VRF good support along with timly parts is absolutely critical. One problem I see is too many lines of parts that are un-compatible with each other.
How far away do you guys go? I'm having some issues with a rack system that was installed by previous previous owners, was a company in California. I don't know my way around those fancy Emerson controllers, and don't really trust local's very much. I'm roughly 300 miles from the Toledo, OH area.
I’m about an hour south from Toledo. The only reason why we went over here was because this was a very high priced job and the guy that sold the job has attended this place for vacation several times. Normally we don’t go much more than 60-90 minutes one way.
@@HVACRSurvival Ok, like Columbus, OH? I'm about an hour south of Indianapolis. I think if you went thru this whole system, you could help me figure it out, and what needs to be done. I suspect there might be a leak somewhere on the low temp part of the rack, the bigger walkin freezer is running about 8 degrees, but a lot of that I think is they don't keep the door shut properly. Couple of the medium temp cases are always in alarm, slightly high temps. Hussman cases, all installed circa 2015.
If you’re talking about the normally close, normally open switch that opens and closes when it triggers? You can run high voltage through there, but the amp draw has to be pretty low. Basically don’t want to Power anything like a load other than a coil of a switch or contactor
@@HVACRSurvival I mean the other three terminals located at the top, T1, T2, and T3 that are used to monitor the load side of a contactor I think. So it can trip if one leg of a contactor goes bad. Reason I'm asking is I have a nearly new ICM450 in my spare parts bin, I saved it from a unit we scrapped.
Most compressors you can go to 187 volts for low voltage cutoff if they're rated 208/230. At least that's what it says on the nameplate of most units I've come across, 187 min, 253 max. +/- 10%.
🤷♂️ the person that sold the job quoted the protection devices. He was a tech B4 sales. I think these had other features the other model might have been missing.
@@HVACRSurvival The only difference between the 450A and the 450A+ is the MODBUS. I just checked and there's only like a $15 difference between them, I was thinking it was 50%+ for some reason.
Damn that’s quite the disappointment from carrier, would have thought they would have done better being carrier. I get a slight feeling seeing that oil sprayed everywhere he didn’t recover the charge and just cut into it and got a nasty surprise…
I think you’re exactly right. When I was there, the only problem the compressor had was the internal sensor was bad. The windings were perfectly fine. I think it was just pure hack work. I bet it was running when he cut it open and that fan just blew it everywhere but then again why did it turn black. That sounds like a burnout and there’s no reason that should’ve done that because it wasn’t burn out when I was there. I disconnected that first compressor and let the second one run, but they had some power issues and that’s how they lost some compressors so that might’ve been what happened, I think you’re right he blew the charge.

Those are great phase monitors. That "repair" by the factory guy.....ahhhh...was less than ideal I'll say. Great video and explanation Rick

ICM Is a great American company that builds a quality product. 👍👍

I agree. If I could purchase my parts when I want how I want I probably would’ve done that.
Those are great phase monitors. Nice job, thanks, Rick!
Thanks Steve. I’ve been thinking about doing more stuff like this, but unfortunately, noticing the views are down, makes me think twice about it.

Awesome video Rick. Funny thing, UA-cam recommended the first video for me this morning, and I watched it!
Interesting. They must but listing to me. 🤔
Nice video, good explanation of parameters!
Thank you sir

These have been pretty reliable for us. Plus, they’re made in America, which is unheard of.
Another great video, that is an absolute shame the quality of there repair. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job & you explain things very well ... Thx
I appreciate it!
Great video Rick! Workmanship is hard to come by these days not like it use to be.

Thanks

Do you have to change anything in the programming if you do decide to connect the load side of the ICM450?

That’s the benefits of recording your work is CYA if you did it right :)
That’s exactly got I got started recording
Carrier uses temp angencies for staffing
That might explain it. But I thought they came from a great distance away.

Good reminder, I should have checked that 🤫👍👍
I'm surprised they went with the more expensive "plus" model (450A+) when the MODBUS isn't going to be used.
