Is SiriusXM worth it in 2020? My Review.

- Satellite radio has been around since the early 2000s and now most vehicles come equipped with satellite radio capabilities. But it’s not such a novel concept anymore, especially because there are so many ways to listen to music, especially with the popularity of streaming services nowadays.
Satellite radio has struggled to find its place in a world of so many mediums, however, they’ve quietly become quite popular- with upwards of 43 million subscribers.
So the question is, is it really worth it, in 2020, when we have so many options? Well, let’s find out.

When you get it on promo, (6 months for $30) it's a steal. And usually if you just give them a call when your promo is up and they'll lower the price again.
It's great because it's just like FM radio, get in and go - no waiting for carplay/Android auto to load, finding a playlist you like, skipping through songs. I love listening to my own music from a streaming service but there's a lot of times where I want to sit back and listen and that's the appeal in it for me. You can listen at home with a Nest Home or Alexa or whatever. They've got a great curated list of channels with great DJs but no commercials. Some of the channels I'm really dedicated to and have fond memories of like Alt Nation and BPM.
I've been a loyal SXM subscriber for about 15 years (going all the way back to when it was XM) and I really like it a lot!
I had a three-month free trial. Now I signed up for a year at $5.00 a month. I like the jazz and classical stations. I will see how I feel after a year. it is nice to know I will be able to get a reduced rate again, possibly, after a year.
For me, SiriusXM is a must have because Watercolors Smooth Jazz is the last bastion for that particular genre; Heart & Soul is my go to for R&B - modern and throwbacks, as we have no station for that in our area; and Rock the Bells radio for classic hip hop.
Thanks man. That was really informative. I might extend my trial
Thanks. Great review it really helped me decide.
I use it because I go on tons of road trips. There are many cell phone dead spots or roaming areas where data can't be used. SiriusXM totally makes up for it. Yes I have tons of music downloaded into my phone but it gets annoying listening to the same exact songs over and over again lol. Plus there are many more things besides just music that can be useful.
Totally agree. It’s nice when travelling. No need to find the local radio stations, and it’s easier than flipping through playlists on your phone.
They play the same songs over on Hair Nation.
Get a bigger size phone and download more music.
The irony is that I cancelled SiriusXM BECAUSE the stations played the same exact songs over and over again.
A 128gb phone can hold tons of music. Download new music before going on long trip. I would prefer that instead paying $10 per month, Worthless for me.
If you're just a music person and have unlimited data, get Dash radio instead. It's the closest to what XM used to be before the merge, it's commercial free and best of all, it's free!
while probably 60 percent of my listening is radio, my problem is really in my phone. I had a trial of XM Streaming - and the same would probably go for something like Dash - but my audio cuts out consistently in certain areas.
Traffic conditions is also an additional benefit one can add to their SiriusXM plan, if their vehicle navigation system supports it. It’s an addition $4 per month but worth it in my opinion.
Google Maps works just fine for me. It will even warn me of accidents and give me alternative routes. The best part is that it's free.
This right here. Until Android Auto and Apple CarPlay don’t feel like some giant clunky mess, this is totally worth it. Having both dash and HUD integration is unbeatable, along with localized road conditions and regional radio conditions.
It's great if you're doing a multi-state road trip.
Or if you drive in the middle of nowhere and Wyoming or Montana where there's no cell service & XM will always work.
I'm just trying to listen to classic howard stern, does it have those archives?
With Android Auto, can you stream thru your phone and not have the car radio side of it. I'm rarely in my car so the phone/tv/Google/Alexa sounds good, but will it work when I am in the car? Thanks for the video!!
id assume so but instead you are using data to get the music not the satellite through your car
I would never trust a company doing shady business practice and was fined 3.8 million dollars.
Didn’t know about that...
Dude as an ex retention specialist for Siriusxm , you're a catch , someone who likes the service , thinks it's a bit overpriced and wants to tighten their budget. Just call them up , say you wanna cancel and see what they'll offer you.
You’re right! A couple of months after I posted this video I got an email saying the price was going up. I immediately called and asked to cancel. They gave me an initial offer but I had a feeling there was one better so I declined. They came back with a one year deal that is a great value. It was a win-win.

The main attraction in 2021, is that it's portable and you can use it anywhere in the world as long as you have access to the sky. You can use it in Russia, China, and even in North Korea they cannot block you.
Doesn't work well on military bases unfortunately. When I was living on base It didn't work which is why i canceled it but I'm thinking of getting it again now that I commute to base.
I wish there was a sports only subscription. Its so hard to find any other app that has all of those leagues and especially since they carry most out of area games i wish there was a sports only. I already use apple music but listening to games especially driving would be so nice because what other app has all those leagues there
nice review .. If you looking for positive empowering music, Im your guy !!
I would love if it Sirius offered an internet service where you could use your phone apps through a Sat internet connection.
I think they use geosynchronous satellites which are quite far meaning the ping would be several seconds. Wouldn't be a great "everyday" internet service but maybe useful for emergencies.
This is for people who don’t own a smartphone and who own a flip phone I know by experience.
Its definitely a bit old school. Satellite radio predates smartphones its true.
@4.99 per month for select 12 months its pretty good option.
how to do you get that deal and does Select plan include most of music channels?
@@carlhammill5774 All access is the best 😉
@@miel7586 💯. All-access at $5 lol
Is a smartphone required to stream in a vehicle?
If I am paying $8.99 month for Netflix which we watch everyday...the most I can see myself paying for radio is about $5 month considering I work from home and only listen to radio about 2 hrs week. I only want music (don't need Howard Stern or Sports). My trial period ends soon. Do you think I can get $5 month for 12 months thru customer chat?
I think you might as well try!
@@TechnologyPaul just today I got offer from them in mail for $5 month for 12 months..ha
@@carlhammill5774 did you bite?
@@MegaFinalRound yes I got it for $5 month for 1 year.
Still dont see a point for service like this in 2021.
haha, I agree for some it's pointless. I could take it or leave it as well.
46 million do though.
Has anyone at Sirius XM heard of the jazz group called insanintherainmusic the lead sax player is so talented you mst listen to them
me and the nebraskan gang: PANDORA AND XM, F YEAH!
If you just listen to music, it doesn’t really make sense. But - there is nothing else that offers every sport, every team, every game - news simulcasts like CNN and FOX - artist-curated stations, etc. etc.
💯. That has yet to be matched.
can't see why i would need it if i can i can play internet radio in my car or home
I use it cuz American Express pays for it as a reward.
I don't have Sirusxm for music. I use it for talk radio and CNN. A few comedy stations
cnn lol

You cant get curation from streaming services. No news. etc.
I have xm radio it's awesome I used it when I am at home , but I like apple music, Spotify and tidal better because it's cheaper than xm radio and plus Spotify is free
I had xm when it first came out then i gave it up when i could put my own music on a thumb drive or MP3 player and listen to my music .....The flash forward got a car with SirusXM built in so i said why not subscribed angain I thought after about 10yrs things would have improved...But know it was worse...Commercial,,, free music nope ...adds tht i have no use for and shows that repeat them selves every 12 hrs .....There was no music on there that i dont here on fm over and over and talk talk talk on music channels ....So i gave it up again ....I even got rid of Spotify ....It is cheaper for me to get my own MUSIC no commercials and a much larger variety of my choice music when i want and where i want .... Oh yeah since i have stopped they keep sending me mail offer and e mails I would not recommend it now back in its day neat idea put today i think it is no better then a local FM station ....
I listened new talk radio like bbc news NPR news
I only use serious when in the car, but I would never use it on my phone since I have Spotify premium.
Yeah agreed! I think most people just use it in the car. They would like you to use it on your phone but I don't think they are getting traction on their app.
I drove a truck for 2 years never seen another driver that liked it, I hated it ,still had commercials in there programs dont miss it one bit.
I am in the 3 month trial that came with my new vehicle. I don’t experience ads.
Most of my commute has poor or no cell service. Bunk.
Good point. Thank you.
Don’t ever pay full price. It’s really easy to get a “trial” subscription for much less, and then keep renewing it.
How
@@dec1slh Just call them and ask.
@@lgoldman thanks, my trial expires at the end of the month, I will try it out
SXM bitrate is so low.
Hmmm interesting. It’s certainly better than FM radio in my experience, but I haven’t heard that about the bitrate.
no.
Waw waw waw cry about something else
way overpriced. I record my station on my phone then play it back in my vehicle via my phone
Howard not any good since Jackie left... Sorry, just the truth What's "BATMAN" without BATMAN...
Low quality sound just not worth it.
It has terrible audio quality don’t know how anyone could stand use it.
Not true from my experience…
@Zultan I have used it in cars with a base system to, ELS, Harman Kardon, Burmester, etc. I have found all the systems displayed an unwanted piercing high frequency added to all the regular frequencies. I have also found that using UA-cam music premium is much more cost-effective, and has very good sound quality. They wanted 30 dollars a month to extend the 3-month trial on my new car with SXM.
I just noticed SiriusXM has ZERO female musicians highlighted with their own channels. All kinds of men and male groups, but women apparently are invisible at SiriusXM. Well, this female’s money is no good there, so I cancelled my long-term subscription yesterday. I urge all female subscribers to do the same. This is disgusting, women are valuable too.
Boohoo
I listen to Dr. Laura, and Oprah Winfrey, I don't think she still does a podcast anymore...
Lol cry us a river!
Women don't like to listen to Male musicians? Odd.
