What a great way to attach the backing panel! Looks great...walnut is one of my favourites 😁 always enjoy watching the use of the more "traditional" tools and methods 👍🥰
Thank you Juan! You should, it's a surprisingly easy and fun build (especially easy if you skip the dovetailing part). Let me know how yours turns out!
That's a great tip Darko I'll try that next time for sure. I was worried it wouldn't work on this 1/4" plexi because it's too thick, but I should have tried!
@@dkbuilds it should work on any thickness if you score it enough. I usually score third of the thickness with the back of the utility knifes blade and after that I continue same motion with the edge until I go through it.
Love the project as a whole and especially using the removable dowels to hold the back. I also like the option to turn on the captions for a better look into the video. Well done. - Chris
Thank you for the kind words Chris, I'm glad you liked it! I appreciate the feedback on the video style, I am always experimenting trying to see what people like the best.
Fantastic work brother. I have so much cherry in the shop that I've been doing a lot of projects with it, but damn do I miss some good walnut. Completely separately, I've shared your videos with a few friends of mine lately when they asked what kind of videos I'm watching on YT, and the consensus amongst the women in my friend group is, apparently, you have very nice hands. Figured you'd want to hear that.
Thanks Drew! I love cherry to be honest I wish my wife liked it more but she only has eyes for walnut haha And lol I don't think I've been told I have nice hands before... I'll take it! Thanks for sharing my videos!
UA-cam must have spied on me talking to my friend Sunday about building flag cases! This came out great, and I love the pegs in the back, super simple. How did you manage to get the closed captioning to do that? Great idea!!
@@BenNawrath There's a way to manually add your own subtitles in UA-cam, you assign each segment a timestamp of when it should appear in the video. It's not too difficult actually, compared to editing the text directly into the video. You can also change them whenever you want if you find a typo or a mistake, which is a nice bonus compared to editing them into the video too!
Nice video! How do you like the Cosman dovetail saw? I have only used mine a few times. I have to practise more because unless I really concentrate I will cut on a slight angle to the right.
Thanks Gary! I love my dovetail saw. It definitely takes practice though, and I'm far from an expert. At least half the time I pack sawdust/glue mixture into small gaps off camera! What do you use to cut dovetails if not your RC saw?
Thank you Ramskog! And that's a great question, I have thought a lot about it too. I think it should be possible but it would be incredibly complicated.... basically every angle you cut changes. Mind bending to think about!
Nice build. I've been planning on doing one of these for a while for my father's flag, but I've not built up the courage to attempt the miters (I lack a table saw).
Thanks Matt! This would be an interesting build using only a miter saw (or a miter box with a hand saw). Cutting the groove for the plexiglass could be done with a router. Do you have one of those?
@@dkbuilds cool! I am also doing workshop Tetris and your builds are so nice, I was wondering if I should just focus on learning hand tools and ditch some of my big power tools.
@@brianpearce1890 Ahh gotcha. You could do what Paul Sellers does and only have a bandsaw, you can accomplish a lot with that for sure. For me minimum would be bandsaw, planer, jointer. Most of what you can do with a table saw you can do with a bandsaw, and planer+jointer can be done by hand but it's an enormous amount of work. You could consider getting an all-in-one tool like a Shopsmith but I don't have any experience with them (and they appear to be quite expensive).
Bah! I'm not sure, I think it is a bug with UA-cam. It seems to work for some people but not for others. Maybe try refreshing or a different browser? Sorry about that I'm trying to fix it!
I love what you’ve done with the display case. Your craftsmanship is amazing! But from a currently serving Honor Guardsman to a service member’s proud grandson, please contact your nearest Honor Guard and have that flag properly folded.
@@dkbuilds every honor guard is a little different and some are busier than others, but the worse they can do is tell you no. I don’t know where you’re located, but if you’re close to OKC or north Texas, I’d happily fold the flag for you.
Please leave a comment and consider subscribing to my channel if you enjoyed this video. I try to respond to every comment!
That’s a beautiful display case. If you want the best fold for the flag itself, take it to a VFW or a recruiting station and ask them to fold it.
Thanks so much Terri, great advice. Will do!

Gracias por las amables palabras Roberto! Lo extraño mucho. Saludos desde estados unidos
Beautiful work as always. I really like idea of putting the dovetail right on the top so anyone looking over the piece will find a little accent. 😀
Hell yeah thanks Matt. Appreciate the comment! I can never resist any opportunity to add dovetails to a project 😇
Such a pleasure watching you work
Thanks so much Jay I'm fortunate to have you as a viewer!
Thanks for doing our flag proud! Good work!
Thank you very much for watching! God bless
From one service member to a service member's grandson that is a good looking flag great job 👍
Thank you so much Teary! Thank you for your service
Salve, bell'idea per onorare la memoria dei propri nonni. Buon anno 🇮🇹
Grazie mille! Buon anno anche a te Alfonso
From one old sailor to an old sailor’s grandson, good job. Fair winds and following seas.

¡Muchas gracias, Gibran!
Well done. I have my father in law’s flag here. I need to do the same.

The dowels for the back panel is a clever idea! Nice work!

Good work DK
Thanks Tranq!
A lovely tribute!
Thanks CK!
Beautiful and nice build as always. What a clever idea with the dowels for the backpanel. A pleasure to watch your videos as always.
Thanks so much Behzad, glad you liked it!
Great work 💪
Thanks for showing 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting Pete!
Really nice work! Next time you want to cut plexiglas just use utility knife and score it many times. After that it is easy to just break it off :)

Very nice work - love the miter and dovetail together.
Thanks Kevin glad you like it!
What a lovely idea, and it looks so good! I genuinely don't think I've seen another project like this on UA-cam either.
Thanks so much pinguin! You rock
Excellent work, as always!

Do you still have your planer, jointer, and miter saw or did you downsize after growing into the basement space?
