Flag for the Fallen | Display Case Build | 2021/17

- I was commissioned to build a display case for a U.S. military veteran who has passed away. It was an honor to provide this case for a fellow Brother-in-Arms.
I built it out of S4S Red Oak using standard mitered corners. The top was a typical 45 degree miter, but the lower corners were a sharp 45 degree that required a tenoning jig to cut the board on the vertical.
The flag is large, almost six feet wide and over nine feet long. When folded it is a triangle that is 24 inches wide, 12 inches tall, and about 5 inches thick.
This project can be built in a weekend with standard wood shop tools.
Thanks for watching Dad It Yourself!!!

love the Ryobi tools!
Thanks. I have a couple
I’m watching this on Veterans Day. I told my husband I wanted to make one for his dad’s flag from his funeral. This case is one of the nicest I have seen. I will try to replica it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the compliment!
awesome job, I'm getting ready to make one for my stepson dad. making out of black walnut
That will look amazing. Send me a picture on Instagram, I'd love to see it!
Very nice case! I’m getting ready to build one next week that will hang on the wall of a friend who is a Viet Nam veteran. The flag flew out n Afghanistan while his grand son served there sand was able to bring it home for Grampa.
What a great story of service.
Well Done.
And,
Well Said.

Thanks brother!
Nice job! The case came out beautifully and you did a really good job on the video.
Thank you!
Beautiful work, buddy. Thank you for the guidance! I'll be making one for my Dad, which I'm sure you can imagine is a bit of an emotional experience. Cheers!
They are never easy..
@@DadItYourselfDIY oh I’ve noticed, mock ups have been a nightmare.
My Dad just passed away and I am going to make a flag case for his flag. . Your video will help me. Also, don't feel bad. I have called myself a moron and an idiot many times doing woodworking. LOL!
Sorry for your loss, please let me know if I can help.
This is great. I like the stand especially.
Thanks. It's a priceless moment for the family who received it.
Great work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
There isn't a Save button.... :( I did send the link to myself via email. Thank you.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Good job going back and remaking it so it fit the right way. Turned out great and it is a fitting way to honour the fallen.
Thanks... I am trying to come up with a project to repurchase the other two cases now.
Great Job. One comment, not aimed at you though. The Flag should have been folded with a single star at the top, then two stars and finally three stars. Nit picking I know but as a retiree and the husband of a passed retiree it means a lot to me.
I would say that the quality and care of our honor guards is questionable. And I wasn't going to refold it..
So what were your final dimension’s?
I measured it to fit this specific flag as folded. But here is the article I used as inspiration.
