Thanks for setting me in the right direction, your video was helpful. 2015 Ram Ecodiesel with 240k miles, went to pass another vehicle the other day and a woosh squalling sound happened until I left off the pedal. I also thought it was turbo related. Found your video, mine had one bolt still in tact (the upper one of course). I fought it for a while, then decided to leave the existing bolts in tact, I clipped the very ends off of the ears on the gasket, and was able to slide the gasket into the correct position. I then vise gripped the flanges tightly together, compressed the gasket, and mig welded the flanges together instead of using the other two bolts. No exhaust leaks, and the weld is holding strong. I forgot to mention, I got 3 codes when the gasket blew - PO128, P20EE, and P1286 making me think that there was more damage caused by the heat escaping the broken flange, after multiple attempts at clearing the codes and starting the truck a few times, the codes all vanished shortly after I did the repair. I know this isn't a "proper" repair, but it works and I only welded where I can easily grind if I need to mess with this again. I have worked on this truck so much over the years, I plan to hit 300k then move onto a new truck. Happy Trails
I’ve been having a problem with my Volvo lorry sounds like a boost leak on full boost, been looking for months and after coming across this video, I’ve found a hole in the flexi exhaust pipe just down form turbo charger, ordered new flexi, I hope this fixes it! Thanks for video, I would never have thought this could be my problem!
Hi, I stumbled on your video. I had a similar issue happen to me on my '15 grand cherokee ecodiesel. Im my case everytime I stepped on the "gas" pedal I would hear a whistle. After a few days the service def system warning popped up. When I took a peak underneath I saw that flexible exhaust had 2 missing studs/nuts and only 1 still attached. Well I realized that whistling noise was the sound of hot exhaust gases escaping and hitting the def fluid line that goes into the injector. It completely melted it and it cost me over a $1000 to fix. The mechanic just nut and bolted everything back up with a new gasket and its been great ever since!
Thanks for the video! You were spot on! Drilling the studs out was a bit of a chore, however that aside a new gasket and 3 grade 8 bolts and I am up and running! Thanks again 2016 ram 1500 ecodiesel
Thanks for you video! Exactly same issue it’s happening on my 2018 ecodiesel, I actually recorded the whining noise, some days seems to be louder ! Awesome discovery, you made it so easy for me!!🙂👍🏼
I had the same problem. Chrysler repaired everything at no cost. It's covered under emissions warranty. The bolts are pressed in so they replace the whole pipe on engine side then replaced gasket. No charge.
Thanks bud I had a EGR code so I cleaned it and the next step would’ve been replacing the intake manifold it turned out my sensor was bad, but still found the same problem I love UA-cam
6.7 Cummins mines was right off the turbo elbow that connects to the flex-downpipe .. I was hearing a stutuutuu sound & it was making my engine surge' but never thought 💭 it was the exhaust I thought it was a boot that had cracked or something to that nature, it was a exhaust flang gasket that rotted out' so air was leaking making a turbo leak sound & I didn't have any boost.
Totally make my day With this video I finally find the issue! Thank you for the video After I watch it took a look at my truck and guess what one of the bolts was completely broken . Can you please let me know what is the name of the gasket so I can order one? Thank you
I am trying to get those flange bolts out, and I'm having a hard time. I'm using the titanium drill, but it is cutting really, really slow, and I was told to use a hammer drill, but what is your suggestion?
I have a high pitched whistle when i hit the gas only. Sounds like i have a turbo on my 2017 ram 😅. Also have a exhaust leak too..this could be my problem.ill check it out👍
Well, if you have the proper tools you can get it done within the hour, on my situation was little bit different as the head of the screws are welded to one side of the muffler, two of the studs broke right out and that’s why the noise as there was a gap, to drill this holes, was difficult as the drill bits for steel seem to melt as this is some sort of stainless steel screws, so I ended up prep drilling on one of side were the screws broke, then I noticed one of the die grinder bits really pierced this steel good, on the other side on the stud heads I cut them with a thinner grinder blade so I didn’t have to pierce the width of the head, it’s not easies to work down there but you can manage to do so some how.
@@luisjairojaramillo9454 pretty well nailed it. Drill slowly with a small pilot bit and cutting oil first. That will help. Good quality bits are a must.
Was it like a high pitched whine/scream (like R2D2 on fire)? I'm getting that- it seriously sounds like it's coming from the upper engine - thought it was my EGR block off plate but I put a new gasket in it and it's tight as hell, can't imagine it's coming from that.
Hi I actually have a Kia turbo just yesterday I can hear a whistle underneath the car sounds kinda like when your boiling water and it starts to whistle. By any chance can this cause Lean fuel trims??
Somebody else described it as "R2D2 on fire." I think that's pretty spot on. Crawl under there and look at the bolts. If they are half gone and the flange is separated, then I would bet on it.
If you're talking Ontario Canada... We're not even in the right country! Utah is a bit of a drive but you can make it. I'll put you on the schedule! Good luck to ya!
I'm on london ont. Worst experience with this exhaust/scr leak... It Ended up burning my def injector and supply line. Put new ones in then took it to a local shop to get it fixed... they burn them AGAIN! They used a torch to get the broken bolts out. Which didn't end up even working. Anyway, got the hell out of there and took it to an actual exhaust shop who did the best thing which I recommend u might as well do: have them cut off at the flex pipe, install and weld on new flex pipe (closest to engine side) with the 3- bolt mount and then reattach.
@@pimpedout1620 I am sorry about your negative experience! The bolts and flanges are stainless steel. The do not cut well with a torch. Glad that you are back on the road!
Ball joint removal press tool gets them out without having to drill. Probably the least pita method to get them out.

Happy I could help! Don't ignore the leak. The heat will burn plugs and lines around the flange. Gets expensive quickly!

I had the same thing repaired just today.
what size nuts and bolts did you use for the replacements? :)
Excellent vid, I guess I have a project to do when I'm off next week :'(
Think they were just 3/8x1.5. Maybe 5/16... Sorry, don't remember for sure. Good luck to ya!

Hey bud i have the screaming noise right now its being held with vise grips. What size drill bit did you use and what grade and size bolt did you use
Think I just used 3/8 in grade 8 bolts. Good luck!

Sorry for the slow response. Sure you got it. I have heard you can press them out with a ball joint press but haven't tried.
Should you be able to slide a flat head screw driver in between where the gasket sits. The bolts are rusty but are still there but seem very loose
I would say no.

Bet money.
I’m doing this tomorrow on my truck. How long did it take to drill out the old studs?

Lol R2D2 on fire is the perfect description! If the nuts and studs are corroded, I would bet on it.
@@Brandonlexx1 yessir, just checked. There's a gap. Do you happen to have a part number for the correct gasket? (Mopar site doesn't make sense)
@@milesessay8661 it's in the video. Number on the bag that ends in AA. Thanks for watching and good luck to you!
@@Brandonlexx1 had a local muffler shop with some proper tools re-gasket and put new bolts in. Noise fixed!
Do you happen to know the part number for the gasket? Is the gasket only a Mopar part? Meaning only found at Mopar?
Part number is in the video if I remember right.
Hi I actually have a Kia turbo just yesterday I can hear a whistle underneath the car sounds kinda like when your boiling water and it starts to whistle. By any chance can this cause Lean fuel trims??
It's possible. Either way, you need to fix the leak. Fix it and if the lean code doesn't go away, dig deeper.
Mine sounds like air coming out of a balloon. Along with the scream. I’m assuming it’s the pressure side hoses. Am I correct?
I would fix this issue first. Might fix it all.
Awesome video tks buddy 👍
Hey anybody know what size the bolts are ?😂
Think I used 3/8 bolts.
Any chance you have an email address or somewhere I can post a video of the noise my truck is making? I think it may be the same problem.
cheers.
Just check the bolts, if they are corroded, you'll know right away.
Was hoping for a sound so I can compare..

Where you having boost issues because of this?
Not likely. The leak is post turbo and not on the charge side.
I think i have this. I thought it was a idler pully
Pretty easy to tell, If the studs are rusted, I'd bet on it.
Any chance you're located in Southern Ontario?? Lol...dealer said 50/50 he damages my dpf doing this job...$5k at my expense!

This should be covered by extended AEM warranty, no?
This one was not. Worth a call to the dealer though!
Same noise almost sounds like a supercharger whining
I can see that.
