When I’m driving next to a wall, I can hear a Noise which sounds like a tap and hiss at the same time. Heard it before an rebuilt my entire engine & after. I’m guessing I have an exhaust leak. I know I’m missing a bolt on the side where I hear it from, but i have that same design on my Cat Converter that you saw here, where it was leaking from. So it’s gotta be one of the two.
I was told my car has an exhaust leak as well. But it’s getting to where I can smell exhaust in my vents when the A/C or heat is on and it’s making me sleepy when sit at a light for a while. I’ve noticed this from when I was younger and we used to have kerosene heaters and when the kerosene runs out the smell puts me in a real deep sleep. But I gotta get to work and it’s a hard thing to save up for a mechanic to replace. I really hope I can get it done soon for the sake of me and others around me.
@@JU0800 I'm not sure why you are asking me this.... How in the world am I to determine if you should do this? I'd say the shop that you took it to knows more about it than I do. I haven't even looked at your vehicle.
Yeah, every exhaust leak sounds different, but the most I've heard aft of the manifold is a puttering or popping sound. Hard to explain to folks so thanks for posting a before and after recording. Just curious, did you replace the flex joint? I haven't done much exhaust work so I haven't noticed too many of those, but I'd think that they'd be hard to patch or putty. Now that I think about it, the only one that I distinctly remember is on a friends car. He had a damaged pipe so he cut the bad section and and installed a flex. I thought he should have had a new piece of pipe welded in instead, but not my car and he was proud of fixing it himself so I didn't say anything.
Hey maingun07 good to hear from you! No, I didn't replace it....Didn't even repair it actually. I just "bubble gummed" it for the video to give some contrast. To tell you the truth I probably will not fix it. (not saying it's ok to not fix exhaust leaks...) I bought the truck for $250 a few years back so I'd say having an exhaust leak fits the description. lol. It's a good truck though. Yea, I don't see a lot of flex joints leaking either unless it's been hit or damaged in some way. The Ranger came from up north so the salt did it in.
Not anything I want to mention publicly. lol I just patched it for the sake of the video. It's back to doing it again. I'm gonna have to replace the flex pipe.
It's my opinion that if the vehicle came from the factory with a muffler on it then it should be on it. Don't know if it would be bad for your engine. Never met your vehicle before.
I'd say it's possible. But a leak past the second oxygen sensor is not likely to cause a rough idle. A leak further up that can affect the forward oxygen sensor is more likely to cause drivablity symptoms.
Why make a video and record the part to show where and how it's bad but not record the steps on how you did the patch work and muffled the sound not very informative sorry to inform you...
I appreciate you sharing your opinion! That wasn't the aim of the video though. Just wanted to share on how and exhaust leak may sound. I think the video achieved it's purpose. I may make a "how to" repair video later though. Again, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting this. 2 years later and your video is still helping someone (me)
Would it get louder with accelerating?
Great demonstration with the soapy water
Thank you so much for doing this video. This is exactly what's wrong with my exhaust..
That's exactly what I heard from my car recently. Thanks!

Very clean underside
Very informative and well done video. Thank you for the help 👍
No problem 👍
Is this leaking from the catalytic convertor or just from the flex pipe?
No, It's not leaking from the converter.
@@BarboursAutoHelp mine sounds like this but the garage has told me to replace the cat and flex pipe should i do this?

Does this cause turbo underboost
Dude my deisel sounds just like that but a little louder. It's a very annoying hiss/whistle
Thanks!! 🙏
Very well done video ,thank you
Thank you too!
It sounds nice
Will this cause your vehicle to stall out
This is exactly my sound and has been like this since purchase
What's the temporary patch? What did you do to it?
Not anything I want to mention publicly. lol I just patched it for the sake of the video. It's back to doing it again. I'm gonna have to replace the flex pipe.
My car sounds like a tow truck and it's vibrating it sound like it's coming from the engine and the muffler you can hear it ? What is it
Not sure...I've never met your car before. lol. You may want to have a tech look at it if you don't want to.
Thank for it Reall helpfull
How come you didn't show what you did to fix it?
Ashamed......
That's it. Thank you.
The 4.0 don’t have a flex pipe, it’s a straight pipe through there
Thanks 🙏🏾
Mine sounds like a helicopter, light just came on, waiting for parts store to open to get code...
I cut my muffler off and it makes this sound. Also a gurgling sound when I let off the gas. Is this bad for the engine??
It's my opinion that if the vehicle came from the factory with a muffler on it then it should be on it. Don't know if it would be bad for your engine. Never met your vehicle before.
Ours is a whistling sound
does this also cause a rough idle?

I'll have to check that on my car it sounds somewhat like this I have a 2002 Acura tl
Easy way to damage your exhaust system is by keeping your vehicle on idle for longs periods of time
Mine sounds like. Bhrrrrhdddhdhdhdhhddddrhrhrhrhrhrdhdhddh. Pukh pukh pukh pukh pukh puckh phuck bhadh dhadhdha dha dadha da
You can heat rap the whole since you identified it.
I think someone tried to steal the catalytic converter.
No, just rusted out.
How did you fix it?
See my reply to maingun07.
Sounds just like my car 🤦♂️
i need to ask you a ? Do you have a contact ?
Yep! Right here in the comments... Ask away.
Why does my spark plugs doesn't last long?
How much did it cost to fix?
I didn't fix it. I put a "temp patch" on it. It's back to doing the same thing. Prices vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle and from case to case.
My muffler has a huge hole 😂
I'm seeing smoke and it sounds like this.. thanks.. time straight pipe the jeep..
My f150 is friggin loud

Wish I was a mechanic instead of bus driver
Well, apply for a job at a shop. Bunches of places are willing to train. Seriously! There is a technician shortage. We need you.
