    just use a proper exhaust clamp and snug it tight with a ratchet... a hose clamp is virtually useless here as it cant compress the pipes together

    give this guy a break. if you're a car guy and had this problem when you were young and broke--leaky pipe after working on it with friend's harbor freight mig that can't penetrate for crap... you may find yourself in a similar situation.
    having said that, what i would have done if i only had couple bucks to fix it after being through my broke car years is to split open an aluminum beer can with a snip, silicon the inside of the can, and use that as the wrap with 2 hose clamps locking it in from either side. or you can use exhaust pipe cement.
    keep at it man. you'll get better. we're all learning!!

      @@Derec mainly because your issue was far away enough from the exhaust manafold. ...I actually recently fixed exhaust and tried everything including what you used..ended up just welding it which I should have done first..wasted a lot of time with wraps and various clamps...nothing beats a good weld imo...

      Follow up: it was coming from a stripped bolt, long story. I used the clamps to hold the bolt on and some red rtv silicone to seal it. Haven''t had any issues. Super cheap ghetto repair that works or pay a welder which will be expensive

    I was going to use gum and toothpicks until I watched this. But the loose clamp ..man that's ingenious..I'm not even going to use gum now, also my clamps to big I'll just undo it and get a 1 1/4 wrap.

    I had the same problem with small exhaust leaks..I brushed onto fiberglass sheetrock perforated tape a thick coat of Furnace cement. ( 6.00$ at hardware store).the cement is rated at 2,000^, the temp of flowing Lava.. That was 6 months ago, NOT one crack in cement and still holding strong.. I've also did the same instead of replacing a Donut, wrapped over and around the flange..its VERRY easy to wrap around anything..Try it, hasnt failed me yet.! don't forget the cheap gloves..total time to fix both leaks, 10 mins..

  • @tjxiaomi8741
    @tjxiaomi8741 6 років тому

    I tried something similar, copper gasket maker wrapped with tin can by clamps, failed. Will do it again using furnace cement instead, as gary king suggested, but doubt if the cement will hold up for long as exhaust shakes a lot.

      Super duper wide clamps paired with the tutorial method

  • @rileyrr2925
    @rileyrr2925 7 років тому

    It's a high temp gasket maker. Ultra copper works better. But what makes this work is the clamp, a tbolt clamp would work better as it has more surface area so more of the rtv can seal.
    For the haters: I've seen an NSX use this stuff as turbo to manifold gasket, worked just fine.

    • @Derec
      @Derec  7 років тому

      I will look into the copper, well said thanks

    • @joekim4794
      @joekim4794 6 років тому +1

      Because an NSX driver used this method its the best way to go about it. Ok thanks! No not thanks. If it method works then great, but its not the most efficient or even easiest way. They have a product called fiber fix. If you were gonna half ass a job then fiber fix heat wrap would be a better choice imo. That product being used in this video was most likely intended to create a seal and act as a gasket. You pretty much just took that product and created a heat wrap. To any other viewers with this issue buy a heat wrap fiber fix

    He didn't say it was going to work or that it was any good. Just that you could repair it in 5 minutes. Have no idea what the 4k is all about. bubble gum would have worked about the same. Guess he wanted to put his first fake video on and brag about. it.

    This is wholly stupid. Why not run up to a muffler shop and have them weld it for 20 bucks in 10 minutes? Also did you go into speaking with an accent half way through the video?

    • @Derec
