    This is a 2ch plane, as is typical with Air Hogs, except this one has ducted fans and a rudder. This plane takes a larger area to fly in, and a bit of practice at the controls. But, once you get the hang of it, it is plenty flyable.
    Enjoy!

      Thanks! I'm a huge Star Wars fan too. :) I have a bunch more Star Wars RCs that I'm wrapping up the reviews on soon. Air Hogs has quadcopter versions of the iconic Speeder Bike, X-Wing, and TIE Fighter. And the X-Wing and TIE Fighter can play laser tag with eachother, or with an autonomous Death Star. Pretty cool stuff!

    I wonder if you could add a little more weight to the front end if that could help with the touchy throttle. Seems like you need to find that perfect amount like the X-Wing otherwise it wont fly.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      That is correct, and yeah, that might help, though that would also make it slower to climb in altitude. But, for a low flyer like me, that probably wouldn't be an issue. :)

  • @ericdamexican
    @ericdamexican 7 років тому +1

    Interesting use of thrust vectoring! Really seems to crank that thing over for the control surface being so small but surely low throttle kills turn ability huh? Flies alright though, not like old school Air Hogs!!! The need to revisit older designs.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      I suppose it's fair to call that "thrust vectoring", though don't the engines themselves usually move in that case? I still see it as a "rudder", but I suppose it is indeed vectoring the "thrust" and not just an air surface. Interesting thing to ponder anyway. :) And yeah, the ability to turn is greatly affected by throttle. As long as you're steady on the throttle though, it works quite well. :) Tune in tomorrow for the Air Hogs RC Batwing, which may be the best-flying Air Hogs plane I've ever flown. It's their rather tradition dual-prop differential thrust design though.

  • @DavstrWrexham
    @DavstrWrexham 7 років тому +1

    hmmm, a good candidate for a full RC conversion. It wouldn't take much to cut a couple of elevens and a couple of sub-micro servos. It would be much more flyable and controllable then.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      That would be quite cool! :)

  • @krang07
    @krang07 7 років тому +1

    If I ever see it for half price at Target or Wal-Mart I might get it. Otherwise I think your paying for a Disney product mainly. If I did get one I`m sure to trim some of the foam off to reduce the weight. Like the X-wing they tend to be over weight and/or under powered so it makes it sorta difficult to fly. Once I tweaked my X-wing a bit, it flew really nice.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому +1

      Yeah, that tends to be the case with any scale model... it's more about the detail and looks than it is about flyability. Air Hogs also really goes for durability and safety, which can add weight to their models.

  • @therchunter7803
    @therchunter7803 7 років тому +1

      Nah, you don't need a field THAT big. But yeah, you do need some room to fly that one... I assume you've seen my review? It looks sooooo good once you get it flying though. :) They now have quadcopter versions of the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Speeder Bike, if you didn't know. I'll be reviewing them all soon. :)

    Reminds me of the X-Wing,once you get the hang of it,you can get some good times with it.I didnt have to do much to make my X-Wing to fly higher than normal,after that its a matter of how to work those controls. I used bamboo skeewers on the ends of the wings painted white with red rings painted on the tips. It is really durable. As far as battery and all that,like you said,pretty much 8 minutes at best. bummer they make it so you cannot swap batterys. A shame really. I avoided doing any radical mods to mine. I wanted to keep it as original as possible. Air Hogs needs to step up their game as far as better quality stuff. Its a disappointment for any young person to get something so cool looking,only to fly like total crap.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      Air Hogs focuses on durability over flyability. They make these things with as few moving parts as possible, and with as much protection for crashing. It's a tricky balance to try to find what matters more for beginners... flyability or durability.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 7 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC I watched the RC satlors review on a Air Hogs FPV style racing drone,problem is,there is no camara,and the battery died in five minutes,not to mention it barely had any Yaw. It was pretty much a joke for the $40 they are charging for it. If it was cheaper I would get one just to shoot at it with airsoft pellets. Well,as a first time drone...ah hell,thats BS,Banggood has better stuff for less money,free shipping than that pig. At least for $34 bucks you can get one thats water proof and really scoots. You can order a WL. Toys camara for $12 that fits it fine. Its the JJ RC H34 quad copter and is a great deal. I bought two of them. One for my son in law. One for me. You can even order spare batterys. I like Banggood ,except two things. Shipping,and shipping. It generally takes 4 to 5 weeks ,on ocassion6 weeks,and they skimp on shipping boxes,as in none. The wrap your stuff in foam and stuff it in a grey shipping bag ( I call them trash bags) If you are orderingbit as a gift,expect the box to be slightly smushed. I have never had one totally wrecked in shipping. Their customer service is good. As long as you send them a copy of the shipping label and a short video of the problem,they usually take care of the issue pronto. I had one problem with a dead transmitter. They sent me a replacement by the same slowvboat from China. The good part. BangGood sells parts to fix pretty much all their stuff. and spare batterys,props,blades,receivers,transmitters servos ,all that good stuff. I also deal with a place called GearBest .com. They sell a bunch of RC stuff too. About the same deal pretty much. Both sites sell more than just RC stuff,so check them bothnout.

    That was a pretty nice flight Ryan! Though I must say that I am upset with Air Hogs as I heard they are blocking the nicer (IMHO) Propel Star Wars Quads from USA release! Air Hogs should stick to the planes as I think foamy bodies work a lot better for planes than it does for quads lol. Great Review man

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      I'd be curious to learn more about what you said.... seems like maybe Disney only offered the license to Air Hogs, and not Propel? The Air Hogs Speeder Bike and X-Wing quads are actually quite nice! The TIE Fighter quad is a bit heavy, but not bad either. And they are all plastic... well, the rider on the Speeder Bike is foam, but it flies much better than the MF quad or the Helix, etc.

    • @FrequentFlyerRC
      @FrequentFlyerRC 7 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC The Propel Star Wars "Drones" to my knowledge, has been released in Europe and won't be coming to the states because Air Hogs was able to lock down sole license for US sale til who knows when! People some of the Facebook groups have been showing them off and I have seen the awesome demo of them for "Force Friday" and they are AWESOME. Very fast and capable quads but they seem to maybe have tiny brushless motors or something because they do fast flips that rival the speed that the little X7 flips at! I was really blown away, which is why I'm mad! LOL

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      Frequent Flyer RC Yeah, their Millennium Falcon definitely has brushless motors... I could tell that from the pics. I couldn't determine if the other models did or not, but it seems like if one has brushless, they'd all have brushless. I had not heard that they were out in Europe already though. I will have to try to track them down through eBay, or maybe have a European viewer buy them for me. But I WILL get my hands on them one way or another! hahaha

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      Looks like the website still says "Reserve Now", which I did on day one, lol. And I don't seem to find them for sale anywhere, so I don't think they're out in Europe yet either. www.propelsw.com/collections/the-collection

    • @FrequentFlyerRC
      @FrequentFlyerRC 7 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC Yeah, I ordered one day one too but people were showing them off in this Facebook group somebody just threw me into lol, and when I somebody in the group asked for a link to buy the response was that they are only available in Europe because of the Air Hogs license. One guy had a few of them lined up in pics! I have a friend that recently moved to Germany and I'm thinking maybe I will ask him to get one and send it. I also see that Gearbest has cloned the tie fighter and falcon!

    How do you decide what models you are going to review.Do you just buy the randomly? Great vids btw

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому +1

      Well, it's a mix of things... some are sent to me by sponsors, so they will offer suggestions, and I will either accept or refuse them. And sometimes if a viewer requests something, or I see something that I think looks good, or unique, or like it'll be popular, I may ask a sponsor if they'd send it to me. Or, in some cases, I just buy stuff that I have personal interest in, or that I think will make for good/popular/entertaining reviews. As the Christmas shopping season approaches, I tend to do a bit more toy-grade RCs, since those will likely be very popular reviews for parents trying to make purchasing decisions, or for kids that get those things as gifts, and then want to watch videos about how to use them. Christmas day is the highest viewcount day of the year for my channel. :)

    That's a huge empty body. Missed opportunity for really long flight times! If I were air hogs I'd put a propeller on the back and a giant battery in the body. :)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      But keep in mind, the bigger the battery, the more it weighs, so that starts to reduce flight time, and negatively affect flight performance and characteristics. In a small plane like this, weight is a crucial factor.

    It looks cool but would it have killed Airhogs to put another channel on it and do an elevon mix. I know $$$, but it would have proper control. It would be still be somewhat self righting when you let go the stick because of the dihedral.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      I'm not sure what you mean. How could they do an elevon mix with no actual control surfaces? Air Hogs is mainly for kids, so they go for durability and simplicity, over flyability. So, they never have actual control surfaces.

    • @greg0063
      @greg0063 7 років тому

      Was it the Storm Chaser? Had an elevator If Im not mistaken. Your right its mostly for kids but why give them something that is difficult to control at best. Imo it leaves them with a bad flying experience and after that think that rc flying is way too hard. I know Airhogs doesnt really care about that but they should.

    • @greg0063
      @greg0063 7 років тому

      Sorry Storm Launcher

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 років тому

      Yeah, Air Hogs has changed a lot since the Storm Chaser days. And, I have mixed feelings on it... while they are relatively hard to fly, they aren't really *that* hard to fly if you have the right weather conditions, flying area, and take a couple minutes to learn how to fly them. That's why I always make such a point to take about HOW to fly these Air Hogs in my reviews. And, being that they can really take a beating is really a good thing... what is more frustrating to a new pilot... having a learning curve to flying, or having a really flyable model that then breaks into a million pieces on the first crash? I think it may be better to start with a model like this, that can really take the crashes during learning, and get the kid familiar with flight controls, and then move on to something like a 3ch high-wing plane. In fact, my first plane was an Air Hogs that I used to just get a feel for flying, before doing my real learning on a HobbyZone Champ. I think the safety aspect of the Air Hogs really gave me a lot of confidence to try flying, whereas I was super nervous to fly the Champ at first. And, in fact, my friend then got a Champ, and tried that as his very first plane.... as soon as he took off, he crashed it, and broke the prop, prop shaft, and knocked the motor out of place. He has never fixed it, and has never flown again since then. So, I think Air Hogs may be onto something here... there just needs to be more people like me, and the kid's parents, really teaching them how to fly these models, and then them taking the time to do it. :)

    • @greg0063
      @greg0063 7 років тому +1

      Agreed someone with half a clue to give them a hand is probably the best help. That does help as well with the how. I like that you make a point of it many times that with some of these non proportional controls you need to pulse or blip the stick to get the craft to respond smoothly. Tips or lack of tips like that can make or break the experience for some. They may not be able to get it in the air long enough to figure it out for themselves.

      These are a different class of RCs. These are novelties, meant for fans. Very often scale models like this don't perform overly well, and aren't intended as traditional RC flyer, but more as nostalgia. And, really, this doesn't fly any worse than most Air Hogs planes. Air Hogs focuses on durability and simplicity, since they are designed for kids and beginners. They are more intended to be durable than they are meant to be stellar performers.
