On Day 25 of our Round The World Trip with Star Alliance we were in Lisbon, Portugal. Along with visiting some famous attractions in Lisbon, nothing compared to having one of the best seafood meals of my life at the legendary Cervejaria Ramiro.
1:48 Elevador de Santa Justa - Located just a short walk from Praça de D. Pedro IV (Rossio Square), the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Santa Justa lift is a historical elevator that you can ride to the top for a great view of Lisbon. Since I was in the area and it wasn’t busy I decided to go for it. Price - 5 EUR
4:31 Castelo de São Jorge - From Praça da Figueira we took the bus up the hill to Castelo de São Jorge, which is one of the top things to do in Lisbon. After paying the entrance fee, we walked around the castle, which is situated on the top of one of Lisbon’s hills as a citadel. The views of the surrounding area and the castle itself were spectacular. This is a must visit attraction in Lisbon. Price - 8.50 EUR per person
8:01 Epic seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro - If you ask anyone where to eat the best Portuguese seafood meal in Lisbon, undoubtedly the number one response you’ll hear is Cervejaria Ramiro. It’s a seafood palace of a restaurant that’s popular with both locals and tourists alike, everyone comes for the abundance of incredibly fresh seafood. It actually almost feels like a Chinese restaurant when you’re eating at Cervejaria Ramiro from the liveliness and the fresh seafood tanks. We started off with some prawns in garlic sauce and then ate clams in garlic and then had crab. The crab roe was intensely amazing, and I’ve never seen a crab with so much roe in my life. Next we had some of the greatest shrimp / prawns I’ve ever seen. I ordered 2 tiger prawns which were the size of lobsters, and then 2 scarlet prawns, a type I had never eaten before. Both were incredibly delicious, some of the best prawns and seafood I’ve ever tried. Finally, my last seafood dish at Cervejaria Ramiro was a plate of goose barnacles and some oysters. For steak at Cervejaria Ramiro one of the popular things you have to eat is called a prego, which is steak sandwich. After eating all that seafood, somehow the steak sandwich hits the spot. Our total price - 108 EUR for everything we ate and ordered.
26:23 Lisbon Cathedral - The Lisbon Cathedral is one of the first cathedrals and earliest buildings in Lisbon, and it’s a fantastic sight to see.
27:31 Rua Augusta Arch - After walking around the Lisbon Cathedral we then headed to the main plaza of Lisbon and walked around the Rua Augusta Arch and got a nice view of the Tagus river.
29:10 Piri piri chicken at Frangasqueira Nacional - Finally to end this amazing day of Portuguese food and attractions in Lisbon, we headed to Frangasqueira Nacional to try their piri piri chicken. It’s just a small takeaway restaurant, but the passion of the owners is evident. The piri piri chicken was awesome. Total price - 14 EUR
This was probably my favorite day of our trip to Lisbon, with a perfect mix of incredible Portuguese food, especially seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro and visiting attractions in Lisbon.

Came to Portugal for first time. Just had dinner at this restaurant. O. M. G.
We had the clams in garlic and butter, MONSTER tiger prawns, shrimp and then a HUGE live crab was presented to our table prior to preparation. Some of the most delicious seafood our palates have ever tasted and we are from the coast of California! The Portuguese really know how to do food! For crying out loud...it was FANTASTIC!!!
I visited Portugal in 2007. Had a the most wonderfull time. Really friendly people and i tasted the best spareribs in my life. Huge respect from Denmark to Portugal and it’s people 🇵🇹🇩🇰
Awww thanks.Obrigado🌞
Obrigado Nielsen...time to come back :)
Denmark is high on my list as well, the best Joy in Scandinavia, thumbs up from Norway :)
Hope you come back to Portugal soon! Lots love from Lisbon!
@@luisnlptObrigado, we can't wait to get there and mingle with the friendly Portuguese people...and eat!
I could literally cry, seeing that Seafood, cooked with lovely garlic and butter! There is no better combination in the world. I need to go to Portugal as soon as possible!
Greetings to Portugal from Switzerland
Behind Vietnam and South Korea, Portugal was the friendliest country I’ve been to. Your experience at the restaurant is the hospitality of Portugal.
In fact, there is no other Western Country that would know how to interpret and assimilate Asian culture as Portugal, and this is revealed in Lisbon, where you can see so much Asian culture, the Portuguese were the first to arrive and market with China and Japan, everything is documented, Macau, for example, many people think that it was a Portuguese colony, but Macao was offered to the Portuguese by the Chinese as a tribute, always had a special status and also to facilitate trade between Asia and West
Portuguese are very friendly...and if you try and speak their language, they're even friendlier...
Salvador how comes it was less friendlier than Porto ?
luis fernandes interesting is that true though ?
I fell in love with Portugal during my first visit. The food there is incridbly delicious. People are so friendly and the country is simply marvellous with many beautiful things. Eu amo Portugal ...
Always welcome Salim !!

Mohammad Faiz watch his black pepper crab video! He looks like he's gonna faint in the video because of how good it is lol
foodgasm it is :)
per capita, the Portuguese are some of the highest consumers of seafood on planet earth.. so naturally, they have very high standards when it comes to seafood (and food in general).. if you're a seafood- food lover, Portugal should be on your bucket list of places to visit..
He's so happy!! I love how he turns sideways lol

I'm Portuguese, proud to say I've been to Ramiro's twice. Your reaction is spot on, I nearly fell out of my chair when I ate those monster prawns. Also tried Prego sandwiches all over the country.. Ramiro's might be the best, definitely some competition in Porto. Simply Amazing!
I pray whoever reading this you will be blessed and successful in life.🤗
And the same goes for you. 🙂✨
I wish to visit Portugal one day and would like to taste the Portuguese food.. .. beautiful place......... Love from India🇮🇳

Best Best seafood at Ramiro. We had tiger prawns, shrimps in garlic butter, crab, oysters and clams as all suggested by you. Also met the lovely warm waiter who served you and clicked a picture with him. As soon as shown your video he said yes Mark was here and was very delighted to see the video. Thank you Mark for suggesting Ramiro. People across the whole of Lisbon has a very high recommendation for Ramiro and they were just right.
Hey Mark! Your videos are so immersive that Turkey used to be the #1 must on my list, but Lisbon is just other-worldly ..... that architecture, that seafood!! I now have conflict on my heart...
Cool, both cities are so amazing!
Oh my dear Portugal 🇵🇹 , I miss you so much. Love our food. Please visit Portugal 🇵🇹 you won’t regret. You will enjoy the food and the people.. lTe amo tanto meu Portugal 🇵🇹 querido. Ate algum dia.🇵🇹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸

That crab is called "Sapateira" (because looks like a shoe) and is indeed delicious. Portugal has the best seafood of the world and is simply a fantastic and beautiful country! Moving there permanently in 4 weeks!!!
You supposed to have shrimps with heads that actually makes it delicious ...
Japan has the best sea food its so fresh many eat it raw there lol
You just said obrigado. That tells me that you are really into the culture that you visit! Amazing and good job!! Keep it up.
When mark was waiting for the dessert 😂 *steak sandwich*
+Miki Chu That's the tradition at Cervejaria Ramiro. 👍
Is it tradition to sit next to trash because that sucked. A+ Seafood tho
Rather than a sweet to cleanse the palette at the end of the meal, the steak is used to leave an nice earthy flavour after the natural sweetness of the seafood, it really works too, leaves your taste buds in wonderland.
Spoonman he doesnt like sweet things like a cake or something
+Tony Superma Sure but the reason Mark got a Prego for dessert at Ramiro is because that's a Ramiro tradition. Most first time visitors are aware to save room for the steak sandwich. And, Mark indeed does not like sweets but he always orders and tries desserts because Ying loves them.
Im Brazilian....we know what good food is! And Portuguese cuisine is def. one of the best. yummi.

I have been so blessed to have travelled around the world when I was younger. Saw many countries with different food and culture. When you say that walking there is difficult and ground is slippery, I would not go now. Thankfully I have been there. Now I travel with you Mark and enjoying every minute of it.
God Bless you, and keep safe..
"How do you change it (from Celsius to Fahrenheit)?"
Dad moment...😂👌
I'm portuguese, I'm a cook and I simply love food and gastronomy. I have been in this restaurant before, I will go to there again in 20th December when I return to Portugal (cannot wait...) I'm really happy that Mark went there as it's one of the best places in Portugal for seafood. I know a equally good restaurant where the overall experience is better because it's in a amazing beach in the South of portugal, where you have the ocean a few meters away from you and you can smell sea :) It's called Rei das Praias, in Ferragudo. The chicken you had, in Portugal, is quite average I must say. You have to go to Guia, In South Of Portugal, where they make an amazing dish. I'ts a barbecue spicy chicken, called Chicken Piri Piri. The chicken is much smaller, super juicy, spicy hot and finger lickin' tasty. It's side dished with fried potato chips and a tomato salad. it's a super simple dish but trust me, absolutely memorable! Love your vids Mark :)
Hi Tiago, wow that sounds amazing, I would love to visit Portugal again. Hope you have a great trip back home.
Thank you Mark. It's a great honour to have a reply from you to my comment :) This chicken is really amazing, you HAVE to try iT :) It's in a place called Rei dos Frangos in Guia, Algarve :) So simple, but it's one of those meals that you never forget. Please come back to Portugal again. Our gastronomy is very diverse. You should pay a visit to the North of Portugal, to Porto, where the Port wine is made (it's the oldest wine region in the world). You have amazing food and the overall vibe and the gastronomy are very different from Lisbon. You should also go to the South - Alentejo is very rural and the gastronomy in this region is unique. In Algarve you have amazing places to eat and such beautiful views along the shore line. Please have a look for the Azores islands as well as they are true unknown (to most of people) portuguese gems and they are one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Overall we have the best Country and the best food! 😁
He should go EVERYWHERE around here :D
We have great, diverse food all around the country. The fish, the meat, the shellfish, the fruit, the vegetables... we love food and we love feeding people. That's just who we are as a people.
DJ Groove any suggestions for eating in Lisbon? I will be there for two weeks for my wedding anniversary!! We're definitely going to the seafood place in this video but I would love any recommendations from a local!
i hope we get to see more of the baby much blessing Mark to you and you family
Thank you Oralia, hopefully in some future videos.
Love this video. You’ve sold Lisbon on the food front to me. The seafood restaurant looks astounding not only the food but the service. I now crave just a seafood meal
Thank you mark for letting me visit Lisbonne with you.😁💃
I am shocked! The food, the friendliness. Seriously, Portugal, stop showing off. ''fans self''

Portugal is the best country to eat fish and sea food in Europe

Great. Now I have to add Lisbon to my must travel to locations.
I hope you've liked Lisbon. We know how to welcome tourists. Portugal is the best country in Europe for someone who likes to eat (in quantity and quality). Next time you should come to the south of Portugal (Algarve) and try the amazing fish and seafood.

Hallo Mark and Ying!!!You have probably not expected to eat so good sea food in Europe.
The Cervejaria Ramiro is well known all over the Portuguese borders.
I always visit it when I'm in Portugal or on a business trip nearby. It is a must for any sea food lover.
OMG! The waiter is the cutest.. he actually fed him that oyster.

OMG. This restaurant feeding made me laugh and cry almost at the same time. I was with you as you tucked into the giant prawns, fiddled with the barnacle and your fabulous desert. I have never watched anyone eat and enjoy the food as much as you do. I am told I do the same thing. I am watching the whole tour from start to finish in order and I am so loving every moment. no matter the amount of times I rewatch this video I will always enjoy it
LOL! A steak sandwich for dessert!!!! OMG! You were in heaven!!!!!!
It's called prego
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
@Mia May don't knock it until you try it. The reason a prego in Lisbon seafood restaurant is a desert is because culturally when we plan a night out it always starts with dinner and if you eat only seafood, by the time it's 1am and you have had 15 beers you'll be hungry again. The prego is the comfort food needed to just settle you for the night. Must say though, it's very much a Lisbon thing
So happy to see you eating in my home town! The crab is called Sapateira and I miss it so much now that I'm living in Sydney. I almost died laughing when you ate the first percebes (the goose neck barnacle). Thank you for a good time reminiscing and I hope you had fun in Portugal! Next time you visit, hit me up for some pointers ;)

What a BEAUTIFUL & GORGEOUS view of everything from the vintage elevator!!!!
Lots of people commenting on seasonings and ways to cook the seafood, but the secret is in the animals themselves, or rather the cold water they live in; it gives them an especially firm texture that traps the strong sea-like flavour in their fleshy parts. Cooking is mostly done by boiling in water with a pinch of salt and then seasoning with lots of garlic, butter, fresh parsley or coriander. Some seasonings also include lemon to cut the fatty excess of the buttery sause. The other method is the grill or a very, very hot pan (wok style). Edit - that yellow "pudding" stuff inside the large crab (named a "sapateira") often includes beer among its ingredients.
True the water makes a difference.
That nice man who ordered oysters for him 😍
Welcome to Portugal.... the best food, wine, people, beaches, monuments, scenery, climate....... 💚🇵🇹❤
Lisbon one of the finest cities. Great food great people.
Wow! What a Seafood Meal. It's totally epic- Obrigado!
The barnacles are called "Percebes", and in the prawn you're supposed to take the red part along the body, it's the intestines so it might give you a bad taste to the prawn meat.
And in the dessert, that's not a dessert :) it's more of a snack/lunch normally dressed with mostard, in one of our typical breads called "carcaça", a really flufly bread! We are a country that loves our bread and we have more than two hundred varieties. Most people drink a beer (Imperial) acompanying it. If you wanted a desert i'd recomend the more typical chocolat mousse or the arroz doce (Sweet rice).
Really good to see people from other country's enjoying our food and country ^^ hope you come again, if I see you i'll buy you a beer and give you a tour!
My friend clearly you dont understand anything about seafood, the red part are egs👍
I love it ~ you said you were "seafood intoxicated." And that the giant prawn needed a moment of silence. Hahaha :)
Mark, the clams dish is the famous clams bulhao pato. The clams are prepared with garlic, olive oil, white wine, and cilantro. When the clams open they release their juice into the sauce making for an aromatic and sublime dish. The sauce is very bread worthy for dipping. No butter in the preparation.
I definitely have to visit Spain and Portugal at some point in my life and get myself some of those huge, delicious-looking shellfish! Anybody from Louisiana would certainly feel at home eating some of that Iberian cuisine!
You must know that Spanish people do prefer portuguese food.
Garrett Frugé Portuguese cuisine is very seafood-y. Spanish cuisine... not so much.
Good-hearted man we love you
