Hats off to Japan as well for the incredible food, culture, history and top notch society. One of my favourite countries in the world. Love from Portugal.
There are a few foods you may eat that was taught to the Japanese by the Portuguese. If you had what you call egg ramen, tempura shrimp, some cakes (which I don't recall 😅), then you have experienced some of the Portuguese influence from when they visited the island almost half millennia ago. Food taught by the Portuguese that now are an integral part of the Japanese cuisine. How cool is that? And Japan is only one of many.
I lived in Senhora da Hora in Matosinhos. So amazing!! Best seafood ever. I hope you enjoyed it. Northern Portugal has the most amazing people and food. Que Saudades tenho do Porto e de Portugal.

Seafood is light food you know... It's understandable that your girlfriend hasn't mentioned you this... We just don't think too much of it. This is like "Food tourism" in a way... They're looking for specific cultural things that the country has a specialty in it. For sure... You won't eat good seafood like this in other countries, that's GRANTED. If you want a "seafood rollercoaster"... Yup, Portugal is the place

Both Spain and Portugal are highly underrated for food. Their seafood is outstanding. Even their canned seafood is much higher quality than what you get in America.
I am Portuguese and lived in Spain for a long time before coming back. Although you are correct in both of them being underrated, I think they are very different cuisines. Great video again Mark. Been fortunate enough to have lived in Portugal for 6 years and even till this day, I come to Matoshinhos every year at the end of our holiday, to eat grilled sardines and Lulas grelhados. We grill a dourada on charcoal almost every second weekend, so I am very used to the wonderful taste of grilled fish, but the way the sardines taste in Portugal is just mesmerising so I don't make those at home, and enjoy them only when I'm back in Portugal. And it is always worth the wait. But people, apart from the plates that Mark ate, which all had hefty price tags, the most wonderful thing about Portugal in general is, that you can go into almost any restaurant and have a fresh fish option every day. Beit a balcalhau dish, a grilled fish dish or something else (filetes de pescado, for example). And that is eating for €10-15. Amazing! The one thing I must say about Tito 2, is that it is the only restaurant I have ever eaten sardines and they didn't come with a salad as standard. Sardines, boiled potatoes, and a salad with roasted green or red paprikas, that is the true tradition. Why Tito 2 doesn't serve salad with their sardines, is beyond me.

Gooseneck Barnacles are amazing. Easy to get here in Oregon, but we have a dumb limit of 10 per person on them. I kinda get it, but makes it hard to do a meal unless you get lots of people to forage them. Taste like crab to me, look like alien something you don't want to eat.

Mark, you do thee best at absolute describing the food you taste is like heaven it makes my mouth water.
that market looks amazing
They are my favorite hosts you've ever worked with. Fantastic guys
Mark lad, you have the best job on the planet. Marvellous, absolutely marvellous!!
