    Love this vid- this winter in MN too long and boring, so watching this is not only helping pass time til spring and reinforcing getting here one day, but it’s keeping me sane rather than stir crazy. Thank you - keep on trekking on!

      Stacy M I’m glad I could help shed the cabin fever of winter! Don’t worry spring will be here soon!

    Ha! Couldn’t help but notice your from Brighton in your trail log. I’m also planning a backpacking trip this spring. This video was very helpful!

    Great vid. Ever thought about taking a canoe or kayak? Use it as mobile base camp to day and multi-day hike from. You see alot more island and stay away from the hiking "crowd". There are shelters out on some of those out lying islands too.

      Minong Maniac yes! I thought about kayaking this summer, but we decided to hike the Minong this summer. The next time I go back after that might have to be a kayak trip!

      @@trevordixon347 The ONLY thing better than the island's world class, top ranked hiking trails, is its water trails. You can access sooo much cool stuff that isn't connected to the hiking trails. ...and weight is a non-issue. Huge bonus.

    Such a great trek, Trevor. Posted on my page. My avid hiking friends posted how much they enjoyed. I like your video about how to prep and what equipment and food to take.

      Thanks Aunt Jerry Ann you are the best, and my inspiration to get out into the wild. Thank you so much for that fervor.

    Nice video. Planning a trip with Boy Scouts and wanted to get a feel for the place. Why no water source at West Chickenbone camp? We plan on staying there.

      Sometimes in late august an algae bloom can occur that makes the water poisonous, you can’t filter or boil it. It happened to Chickenbone Lake on our trip.

      @@trevordixon347 We're headed in late July this year and staying at West Chickenbone. Hope we don't run into issues, but thanks for putting this on my radar. As an adult leader of a scout crew leading a trip to a place I've never visited, things like this are HUGE to be prepared...

    What time of year? Last day of May, early June super rainy 2017. People were going missing, breaking ankles and leaving the island.

      It was the last week in August, but I heard stories about the end of May being similar

    Hi, May I ask a question? Is there any stools near the camping sites or shelters?

    • @trevordixon347
      @trevordixon347  5 років тому

      李林 There are picnic tables located at CG on the island with shelters. To my knowledge only the sites with shelters have tables. The regular tent sites do not. There are plenty of downed trees around to sit on at sites without. I’m making a return trip this summer, and I plan on bringing a chair.

      There are privy’s at every campground. No running water or standard toilets in the back country. Windigo and Rock Harbor have regular bathrooms with running water.
