Wow, that was really good. Well shot and edited with interesting information. Have to be hardy to go early in the season, but lack of crowds is nice. Rainbow Gove is probably my favorite place.
Excellent video. The wolves and moose Isle royals study is a fascinating example of how long-term ecological research can provide valuable insights into complex ecosystem dynamics. it underscores the delicate balance between predators and their prey and to ripple effect on the environment.
My dad jus had passed away an he use to take me an my 2 brother there we allways took the sea plane we did what is known as the loop the windigo feldman lake loop been there 4 times as a youngster noe pops is gone i so want to go back
Former Yooper here, as I lived there for all my early life and scuba dived all the Fantastic Ship Wrecks around the island it is very much like Alaska where I have lived for the last 30 years as I have lived in every Western State in the US and a few Southwestern ones as well!
Great video thank you. My Dad did Isle Royale at age 72, his health was failing at the time and it was tough. I now retired and plan to visit. It isnt far from Barnes Wis were we retired.
Hey wait! i live in Toledo 😆 Most of us here identify as Michigan anyways.. just cheaper car insurance 😉 I’ve know this about the u.p and Toledo.. it wasn’t much of a fight.. mostly cussing and maybe a few shots fired across the maumee river. I just got back from thru hiking pictured rocks.. My daughter is on isle royale right now ( staying at the lodge ) This hike is high on our list.. not sure if i can make it this year. How is the planning? permits etc? I’ve been to copper harbor 5-6 times…
How was your thru hike of the Pictured Rocks?! I did it last year and loved it! Our Isle Royale planning was dictated by where our interview subjects were so it wasn't too difficult, but definitely need to plan well in advance to secure a boat or plane ride to the island. Permit was easy. Show up at the dock with your hiking/overnight place itinerary and they hand you a permit. They look it over to make sure its feasible, and probably to give you a heads up if there are many others with the same itinerary in case the campgrounds are full. We were some of the first on the island that season so we saw very few people.
@@discovertheup sorry for the late reply 😆 The pictured rock through hike was special! I could write a small book on all that happened ❤️ Learned a lot! We are doing the isle royal trip june this year ( 2024 ) i’m excited 🥳
Excellent video. Beautiful photography, well-written, good use of interviews. Really captures the essence of being on the island. Suggest much less music & much more natural sound.
Good to see Mark Romanski on this video. We had a wolve encounter on the Island and I emailed him the story. Never got a reply though or a return call. Bummer.
You'll go back. I had the same experience. Been back 6 times since. And it's a haul for me from where I live. Love that place!!!
I can't wait! Need to find another story to do out there for a good excuse ;)
Just want to thank you for creating these videos. I live in southeastern Michigan, and the UP is one of my favorite places on Earth
