Backpacking Isle Royale 2019
Just finished my second trip to Isle Royale.
We hiked ~50 miles along the Minong Ridge from Rock Harbor to Windigo. Hiked through near 2 inches of down pouring rain, crossed beaver dams that will swallow your leg, saw amazing views of Canada from the Basalt Ridges of the island.Thankful that I had the opportunity to return to this peaceful remote place, and to share it with a good friend.
Day 1: Rock Harbor to Daisy Farm. Via the Greenstone 8.5 miles
Day 2: Daisy Farm to McCargo Cove. Via Greenstone to East Chickenbone trail 8.7 Miles
Day 3: McCargo Cove to Todd Harbor Via the Minong 6.7 Miles + a stop down to the Minong Mine adding a mile, mile and a half. With 2 inches of rain.
Day 4: Todd Harbor to North Lake Desor Via the Minong. 11 tough Miles.
Day 5: North Lake Desor to Windigo 12.7 Miles. Rain, Ridges, Thunder, Beaver Dams.
Day 6: Windigo. Zero day. Hung out on the dock.
Day 7: Windigo to Houghton.
Thanks for joining me and I'll see you out on the next one!

Sleeping system so tent, bag/quilt and pad are pretty important but you don’t need to spend a ton of money.

On isle royale the sites that are good for hammocks are few in far between. If you’re asking personally, I just have enjoyed naps in them but even laying “properly” in them, I get sore. So I guess I’m a tent camper for life at this point 😂
