Isle Royale - The Beginning

- Isle Royale is a National Park that is located on an island in the middle of Lake Superior and is only accessible by boat or plane. I spent 9 days alone backpacking on this remote hiking destination. It was the trip of a lifetime. 900 moose and 30 wolves live on the island along with many other animals. From lakeside campsites to mountain top vistas to animal encounters, Isle Royale is all that I hoped for.

I went in June and started on the Minong trail on a day that hit 90 degrees. I questioned all my life choices that day but then on my loop back to Windigo had Feldtman lake campground to my self if you exclude the moose. Sunset watched the moose playing in the lake and sunrise coffee lakeside watching the moose eat on the beach was amazing!
Moosen sighting!
Feltman I think it's my favorite camp! It was really private and the lake was warm and gorgeous. But the hike in and out was roughhhhh lol
Hi! Never been to Isle Royale, made it to Copper Harbor and ran out of time. Really enjoying your hike this far, looking forward to more tomorrow! R & J S. from Northern Indiana
Thank you! The next one comes out next Tuesday.
I recommend adding butter to the meals it was a game changer for me
Great video i leave tomorrow for isle royale can't wait we are going from windigo to rock harbor using almost the exact way you took.
@@jstamk7-jd9xh have fun!
Great video. Nice work with the editing. Wow that storm looked sketchy. Glad the tarp held up and you didn't get flattened.
I did that trip a number of years ago. I thought the ferry ride in was interesting. Fun to learn about all the historical fishing villages around the island. I saw a ton of moose when I was out there.
Awesome trip video as per usual! 900 moose is so many for an island like that! We only have roughly 3,000 in the entire state of Utah. Cool to see the Highline backpack really loaded up. 9 days is a long trip!
Who the @#$ named that campsite Windigo!!??😅😅Good thing not open in Winter! Love Isle Royale- want to go back this year
Was there just days before you! Loved the relaxing feel of the video! Pretty damn wild lol
suprised the mosquitoes were not biting a lot on that rainy day at the end of the video.
Great video, loving this trip series. Please keep up the snark, we know you’re joking, but I’m dying 😂😂
How are you able to get the forecast? Do you have a weather radio?
Garmin "Inreach mini" will give u info via satellite. "Don't leave home w/out it" js. Amazing piece of equipment.
@ 19:00 And, that's why the guy was in a hurry to get to camp lol
Great video! I have a question for you please. On your compression dry sack, do you use the 13 L or 20 L sack? Thank you!
20L
Thanks!
My family is going on our first backpacking trip mark Twain national forest to do the Hercules trail. I it only ten miles but we’re going to do five miles one day and five other do you have any advice?
Have fun. If someone is struggling, don’t push them too hard to where it isn’t fun. ✌️
Thank you
We enjoyed your video and look forward to the remainder of your adventure. What software are you using when you enter your route maps in the videos?
Keynote. It’s the mac version of PowerPoint.
I thought for sure you would have had the Titanic theme song on the bow of that boat! I'm kind of the world!! lol
In the safety briefing prior to leaving, they specifically said not to do that. 😂
Nice
Wow, that tree. A little close for comfort. Just adds to the adventure.
Did you get your Garmin back or have to buy a new one? This is on my list to do.
Had to buy a new one ☹️
Ouch ! @@MidwestBackpacker
Finallyn it has arrived!
Looks like the beginning of a great epic adventure. Thanks for bringing us along.
Oh MY GOSH. That campsite was the site we camped at where the tree fell down. Before that storm, i noticed that tree was really bad, very rotted and dead and mentioned it to my husband. We were camped right under it during a storm, i was so relieved to leave that site that morning. 😮
Whew, a storm blew in on us at feldtman this past Sept, and we were holding our tent up from inside and water was inches deep outside the tent pooling around us. It was wild. 😳 I had planned on sleeping on the beach that night, but saw the clouds coming in and good thing i made it in the tent😂
Oh I did not like that comment about having a beer belly or whatever! It was very difficult to get a campsite! I had the worst blisters I’ve ever had in my entire life! I wouldn’t even call them blisters they were open wounds! So yes it was a race to get to camp! So I could cry all the cries!
