Also, on a technical note: when would you usually reach for a massive passive VS a pultec? Would love to get your experience on this!

Thanks for the kind words on the videos! That is the great Dwiki Dharmawan on piano. He is the best know jazz pianist in Indonesia, playing here with some of London's best jazz musicians. A lot of people in the West don't realise that Indonesia is the same population size as the USA and its capital Jakarta is the second largest metropolitan area in the world. It has a vibrant jazz scene with many great players.

@@ostrol1590 For me pultecs are good for single instruments. Massive passives I use mainly for mastering but they can be great on anything. Overall I think they are much more versatile than a pultec.

Wonderful vid. One of the most informative audio channels on YT and you didn't even need to make idiotic faces! Please do a vid on the Mu comp.

Thanks for the kind words! I did more than one video on the Mu comp, you check my channel in you're interested. Here's a link to one of them. ua-cam.com/video/l1twmsI_2Pc/v-deo.html

It is good, I can hear it doing some good stuff even on my cheaper studio monitors. Harmonics added and not destroying dynamics is what you need on lots of mix's.

Tighter! Yeah thats what I noticed too while testing it!

Yes it is noticeably tighter and punchier in the low end compared to the other massive passive emulations I have. I'm not sure how Pulsar did it, but it sounds great.

Great review and even greater music.
I thought i was going to skip it but after watching your video i changed my mind
I wonder how it compares to Bettermaker EQ232D, SPL Passeq, Knif Audio Soma, Lindell Audio TE-100, all passive eqs, some with tubes and lots of colour

I haven't tried all of these but I have some. If I can find time maybe I'll do a shoot out at some point between the ones I do have Knif Audio Soma, Lindell Audio TE-100, Magenta, NI Passive and Massive.

You should try Magenta from Acustica Audio (eq+comp). I have Magenta and tried Pulsar. They are not in the same league. I love your videos!

Hello, can you make a review about Schaack Audio AnalogQ ? It has Massive Passive GUI design and advertised as a "Natural Phase EQ" (whatever that means) but never mentioned anything about Massive Passive other than the Pultec type of shelves it has. The controls are identical to MP but it has a "Natural Phase" mode toggle that added a little latency to the plugin. It also has Phase graphical view of what you are doing and it looks like the Natural Phase mode are almost identical to Minimum phase atleast to me, so I was thinking what is the point then ? I saw the same type of mode (Natural Phase) in Pro-Q3 as well but never used it, and I would be glad if you could clarity on that subject as well. It will be an interesting video to watch. Hope you will consider doing it. Thanks in advance.

Cheers. That's hard to say, they each sound different and Blyss also has a compressor.

      @@heronislandstudio8054 Hey Mark,
Before I asked you about Massive & Blyss I had Massive. Went and did a little more digging, then purchased Blyss on sale……
Glad I did, Massive was not working on the tune…. Put Blyss on….made it more like a recorded………I’m sure Massive will come in on something else….Blyss is something special it’s like polish……where Massive is the metal before the Polish…….thanks….👍
