- BIG TRIGGER FISH - Long Island Pier fishing - Late Summer TRIGGERFISH (SURF TRIGGERS.) Been a while since I caught some Long Island TRIGGERFISH and managed to pull up a big trigger fish today. Right off the old rusted pier. Had to fight threw countless blowfish all day. Actually the big trigger took on the second or third drop! I am sure there are more out there but they are scattered inshore and moving for sure. But the triggers are there. I would to do extremely well shore fishing for triggers before super storm Sandy struck. I don't think I had one since but I have not really been looking for trigger fish either. Any case it was a beauty of a triggerfish!
The rig was perfect. Used a 3 way rig. Clam and squid on the menu. Bait cut small but gloppy. The triggerfish took the clam but they like squid all the same. No real science in that. The science is the hook. I was using a small #10 hook. Triggers have very small mouths even the big ones. Had to fight threw the puffers the rest of the day in hope of another. I knew they were there, just a matter of at them. I can recall catching trigger fish in October. The triggerfish do say its still summer out, enjoy! Have fun out there and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it and remember always - Fish Your Way! - Спорт
wow yeah, that's a very big triggerfish, especially from shore! dang man nice!
Hi Peter thanks it was a beauty really was digging had my drag low dont know what was under the pier but kept him out wish I had more of the fight but we got him! Thanks!
Awesome just awesome
Thank you always Michael!!!
Beautiful Trigger fish Jerry. The kids go wild when you show them why they are called a trigger lol
Hi Fierceflyer thanks, yea the old trigger on the back! Love it and thanks as always!
Nice Jerry. Reminds me of my youth fishing that pier back in the 70’s with the difference being there were many more people fishing and you would have definitely caught some winter flounder. There was always someone sitting at the ends of the horseshoe and chumming the space between.
Hi Johnny thanks for sharing your experience its a nice place to fish plenty of space and species to be caught. Love your winter flounder memories thanks again for sharing maybe someday they will be back
Beautiful fish indeed , definitely on my bucket list ...thanks for sharing
Hey Diesel thanks! There is some time on them still I am sure a fair shot if you rig right and fight through those puffers but should be a few more around! Much appreciate the words as always!
So cool you late that beautiful fish go Jerry... the fish gods smile down you you!
Hi TNF it was a beauty just gazed at it a bit before I swung him over the camera went out but plopped another battery in quick wish I had the swing he was hooked perfect tough part of the inner mouth like leather. A pleasure to give back to God as well! Thanks as always TNF!
Wow, nice catching ! Jerry, that was amazing to catch a such decent size trigger fish by pier.
Thanks 👍 Alan it was wild!
Now that was a big trigger man! Pier fishing is the way to roll with the wind. Ton of rain bait next to where you were dropping too. Great job man!!
Hey Bob thanks! It was a beauty been a while since I been in them. Action used to be super hot until Sandy for some year. Something with the mussels and barnicles on structure inshore I dont know. Anycase it was nice! Thanks Bob hope to catch you soon!
love the release!
Hi Michael thanks! It was great watching him shoot to the deep! Thanks so much as always!
That's a really big trigger, great job. Also loved hearing you slow down when you said "3 way rig" lol. I can't tell you how many times I've had to edit myself out saying "3 way wig".
Haha! 😁 One of those tongue twisters you got it Slack! The fish made the day! Hoping for more but that one did it! Thanks so much as always for the support!
Hi Jerry, Those Puffers were keeping you busy but that Trigger Fish was BIG. They are definitely a warm water fish and they look tropical. It's nice that they migrate up here in the summer. Glad you caught a big one. I get my saltwater fishing "fix" by watching you fish. Good luck and have fun, Mickey
Hi Mickey, yea the puffers are incredible! I must have caught hundreds with one nice big one but I let him go. Would like to keep a dozen one day buit they are on the smaller size. Trigger was a nice treat! Thanks as always Mickey and talk soon
Great video and nice trigger fish~~
Thank you 😋 Wei K!
Great video! Never caught triggerfish in NYC. Will try from JB. Thank you
Should be some both but I am guessing patches of scatted roaming fish inshore but a definite possibility anywhere you fish structure! Thanks riyad!

Thanks Joseph! Have my fingers crossed they are leaving you alone and you have a great trip!
Fantastic video, Jerry! You are the role model of environmentally responsible fishing. However I would not mind if demonstrate a nice recipe for that triggerfish in action.
Thanks Ulanbek! Had to let em go but sure looked tasty! If there were a bunch more I may have would have kept a few thanks as always for watching and commenting!

Hey, great video & awesome catch! Where is the old rusted pier?
"Long Island" like it says in the title
Hi Mary Mary, thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing. I always nest the location somewhere somehow in every video, its in there!
Just caught my fist one yesterday and they are a great fight and
They fight great really know how to pull tug dart and use their weight! Thats awesome! thanks for watching commenting and subscribing to the channel Ira
Yeah man no problem! The only thing I can really say is pictures and videos don’t show how big these things are in person and I can tell the on you got is huge! Tight lines!
@@blizzington4528 So true! I tell people all the time the camera really does not do justice to show the actual proportion thanks Ira!
Hi Jerry, Question for you and the fishing community: I was fly fishing and fouled hooked a peanut bunker, I started to bring it in and got hit & hooked up on a good sized fluke (19inch) is this illegal? Didn't keep it. Thanks for any comments? And keep the videos coming.
Interesting paradox. I would say YES, IF the hook was set in the jaw. IF it was hooked outsided the jaw region like back/tail/belly I would say NO. But sounds like it was jaw hook. People snag and drop all the time with treble hooks all the time and they keep those fish so I cant say why not. YES I say
trigger on by the South shore right? Northershore don't?have them
I am sure if a boat you can get em pretty good. They seem to be roaming could be a long summer! thanks trev
Where is that pier located
Where is this pier?
Thanks for watching and commenting. It is in the video somewhere
@@FishYourWay Now, I remember I ve been there. 😂
