  • Catching MY LIMIT - Fishing for KINGFISH on the Sand Flea Surf Beach. Why they call them northern kingfish I do not know. But they are delicious so I kept my limit today. Five is my limit, you can keep as many as you want. I did actually want more but had some other fishing to do and a few mishaps limited my time on the water. They are indeed fun to catch. The northern king fish hit like a freight train and fight like a premature baby. Weird but it is so. They are willing biters and will hit just about any bait to throw at them. Squid may be best but I like clam and you can even use sand fleas, worms or even chicken. I like to rig up hi-low with #2 sharp sharp hooks but a #4 may be better. Kingfish about hook themselves they hit so hard. I like to use the minimum amount of weight to hold bottom. Sometimes a slow sweep is desirable. Any outfit that will cast 1-4oz into the surf will do.
    Northern kingfish on the beach are RELATING to sand fleas which HOLD on STRUCTURE formed on the surf. In other words the beach is the structure for sand fleas and the sand fleas are structure to the kingfish. I would not be surprised to find weakfish under the same set up. On an interesting note I also like to start the day with big over sized baits and hooks when I am looking for smaller fish. If I am looking for larger game fish such as striped bass I will start smaller. Just what I like to do. They are fun to catch, delicious and also make great bait maybe that’s why they are kingfish? Thanks as always for watching and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it.

    Nice. I caught them in the Sound a few years ago by me off the Kayak. Never tried to eat one yet. It's related to the drum/croaker family.

      here in NC we call them mullets. They hit like a truck and are the best tasting fish in the ocean. They love the sand flea up in the wash. You will catch your bigger one's in that area. They wait for the sand flea to wash out and eat them. The Red Drum love the sand flea's too.

    Hey, good afternoon. Just wanted to say thank you for your videos
    Great stuff. Also, would you mind if I asked you some questions about fishing. Especially fluke fishing. If not, no problem
    If you are willing, is these some other way we could communicate. Again, thanks for the videos
    I use a k mart 302 baitcaster prob from the 60s and an old ambassador. Old eagle Claw surf rod and another. I'm eager to start using them surf fishing and wanted to pick your brain. I really like your styles

      Thanks Charles much appreciate the kind words. Sure thing ask anything. If you can one or two related questions a time would be great just easier to answer. Ask all you like but it is easier for me to do one at a time. I have found if I get 6 questions on different topics all at once it is hard for me to get specific and I wind up giving a confusing long drawn out answer that may leave more question then answer (kinda like this reply :) . But anything anything just ask and will get back my soonest! Like the sound of your gear you have!

    They havent shown up by me yet. Sometimes it takes them a little longer to get into the bay than up front.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  7 років тому +2

      Maybe will be a spot year too here too? I have not seen this early in a bit here and they usually are in the bay too? I let a few go the other day and told em "GO and tell all your friends to get on the Staten Island ferry, its only a quarter and makes a fun day" At least the last time I was on it lol

    • @xgenux
      @xgenux 7 років тому +1

      Ferry has been free for a long time now ;) Last season we had 2 days when we got some spot. That was the first time in 3 years they showed up so hopefully this year its back to normal and they are everywhere. Fluke fishing is just now starting to pick up over here. And by pick up I mean from horrible to mediocre.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  7 років тому +1

      Hehe I did not know that way cool! Been years! It picked up here a little bit it was zero for a while. I have not been on the book much at all Billy I will have to check your blog out. I am rarely on it. Tell Dave I said hi and to drop a line anytime ok! Great hearing from you!

      FishJonesBeach usually catch them in Florida with squid and use them for sharks. I caught a nice Gar on a whiting chunk once. In LI I have done well with gulp minnows.
