      Hi Nick, I've tried everything mentioned in this video and yet no matter what, I still get the green & amber flashing occurring. If I leave it for 10 mins it starts playing this soft music but no picture and the leds are still flashing. I've left it like this for several hours and still nothing changes. I've even tried reseating the LED screen cable a couple of times. I should mention that I swapped out the main board with a known working used replacement as the previous one died. Since replacing it, I have not been able to get it to pair using any of the troubleshooting tips mentioned here.

    Great video! Without it, I couldn't save my 55x850c. Long story short, I had 7 blinking red light issue. I ordered main board from ebay, followed the instruction from video step by step. I was able to pair the new board with my old TV, however, it only had audio, no video after firmware upgrade. I disconnect and reconnect the ribbon cables and redo firmware couple times. And finally it booted up with audio and video! one tip: make sure the usb drive has the firmware file only. Every time the TV loads with usb drive, it'll create a folder on usb drive and the TV won't take firmware if there is folder in it. Thanks Nick! This is my first Sony TV and probably the last one as it's not relible

      Glad to hear that was helpful. Yeah Sony sets are greate but indeed they do tend to have software issues. I really like their user interface and find it a lot easier to navigate than say LG or Samsung's new UI. But as you mentioned, they do and can have software issues and are a real pain when it comes to main board swaps or repairs.

    Thank you nick from the bottom of my heart. Your video was tremendously helpful. I will also leave some information for any one who is using the kd 55x8500d model. After replacing the Tcon board there was no picture and no backlight. Only the green amber led. The TV was detecting the USB drive and was creating folders but update never started. Renaming did not work either. I tried about 10 times. I turned the tv on and could hear sound when I was pressed remote buttons. I could see normal dim white led signal. So I kept on pressing the input button on the remote till I could hear the static sound of the TV section. I inserted the USB drive keeping the original name of the pkg file and removing the folders that were created previously. After a few seconds the white dim led remained but the static sound stopped. I did not touch anything. After 5-10 minutes the white led started pulsing (not slow blinking). The white led was going to maximum brightness and then dimming again consistently. Somehow I felt like it was the upgrade process. It pulsed for 15 minutes and then turned off. I turned the TV on after a few minutes. No backlight no picture but I could hear the remote button press sound. I repeated the whole process again deleting the folders in the USB drive and inserting it when I hear the static. This time the pulsing took longer than before. Suddenly out of no where backlight started working and I could see the sony logo followed by the android loading screen. I cannot exactly tell for how long but it was less than an hour. The way the backlight and picture stopped working after the tcon replacement I though it would never work again.

    I found your answer with a link to your video on the forum badcaps (which I've been a member of for a few years just like yourself). I tried for ages to force an update/upgrade through a USB stick but with no joy.
    After watching your excellent video above, I just renamed the file on my USB stick and that forced the update/upgrade.
    Seeing the word 'SONY' appear on the TV screen was just perfect. Thank you very much for the video and telling us the rename file name.
    Thank you...

    Just found your video and replaced my motherboard and ran the updates. The pairing procedure followed your video to the letter. If not for your video I would have been defeated but your information prepared me for the failures and allowed me to continue on. In the end, I had to rename the file as directed and viola! it worked. Although, the update took only about 20 minutes +/- before the TV turned on and the install was complete, I was afraid to do anything for the remainder of the hour as I did not want to cause any damage. Thank you. You saved me a new TV and or the cost of labor and a service call.

    Thanks for video. Managed to get my Kd-55x8509c working following your video. Factory reset wasnt working and just got to android screen and reset. So what I did was unplug all leads from the main board. I then reconnected them all. This then put the tv into bootloader mode. Green and amber flashing lights. I then downloaded the latest firmware from sony and renamed it as you did. Plugged in tv and it started flashing white. After 30 minutes I heard sound butno picture. So I unplugged tv and plugged in again and the white light started again this time took full hour and worked. So before you go buying new main board or repair service try this.

    Thank you, Nick, great video, I followed all your steps including downloading the firmware. Everyone I could not get the Firmware to install until I followed the last try which was to leave the usb drive in and wait 6 to 8 hours while the green and amber lights were on and after about 20 minutes the light turned white and the firmware installed and everything works.

    This was really helpful, thanks!
    I wanted to add that in my case, the pairing procedure worked fine after swapping my motherboard, however if I had followed these instructions to the T I would have been pulling my hair out.
    The update files can be quite large, the one for my 65x930d was about 1.5GB. It takes time for the TV to read/copy/validate this large file off a flash drive. When I booted the TV up with the drive inserted (using the standard filename, not upgrade_loader.pkg), it would boot up with the green/amber flashing light, however I noticed the USB drive was still actively reading while the TV lights flashed green/amber. I followed these instructions and initially powered down, then went to check the drive, and noticed the TV had created an Android and LOST.DIR directory, which tells me Android on the TV was booting and reading the drive. I tried again and just let it sit for a while, with the green/amber flashing light, to let it finish reading off the drive (likely copying/verifying the package, like a typical Android OS update), and the pairing process began with the white pulsing light as expected after the drive stopped reading. Using a fast flash drive on the USB3 port on my TV, it took maybe 5-10 mins of green/amber flashing while reading the drive before it finished reading the file and actually started the process.
    Just wanted to point out that people may want to give it a bit more time. I'd suggest the recommendation be to pull the plug and try again if the TV is flashing green/amber only, but only if it continues to do so after the drive has stopped reading. The final "leave it for 6-8 hours" instruction would cover it as well, but may not be necessary.

    Thanks for your video. My XBR-65X900C Sony 4K TV apparently needs to use this process when disconnecting LVDS ribbons even though the Android update is already installed on the TV. I re-applied the updated from the USB drive and after 2 trials, it worked. I do not know why it needs to be applied two times, but the important thin is that it works. The green and yellow lights are gone and I have the TV showing image again. I damaged the LVDS ribbons because I was thinking that the green and yellow blinking lights were an indication of bad LVDS ribbon connection. So I was disconnecting and connecting them back without any results until I damaged it. I saw this video and after buying a new set of LVDS ribbon, I connected it only once, got the green and amber flashing light, but this time I figured that I needed to apply the latest update from the USB drive again. Did it twice, but it finally work. You are a lifesaver, thanks you.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      No problem, happy we were able to help.
      Sometimes if you power on the TV with the ribbons disconnected you need to pair the board back to the screen. This is why we like to refer it to a pairing procedure more than software update. You aren't truly updating the set, as you mentioned your board already had the most up to date software.

I’ve had some luck repairing Samsungs in the past and thought I’d give this Sony a try. After some searching I found this detailed video and was able to get it working for zero $. I tried everything in order and the trick for me was renaming of the firmware file and then reseat the ribbon cables. This tv will be a great Xmas gift to a good family friend of ours.

    Colin here...Thanks again Nick for helping me with my motherboard replacement update issues! I couldn't get it to pair with just plugging the TV in as shown in this video. It would flash Amber/green every time! I was emailing Nick directly and he was prompt at his replies and very helpful. I also searched all over and tried everything I could find online. I tried and tried different things just winging it and got it working by a hard restart with the USB stick plugged in, then after the second hard reset it worked! What I did: Left tv unplugged and held power for one minute to clear capacitors, fresh update installed to USB stick and changing the file name to upgrade_loader.pkg, plugged in USB stick with power still unplugged, held down the power button, plugged in TV with power button still held, kept holding power button until green light popped on, released power button, it then clicked with amber/green again, left the TV plugged in then held power button again until the TV clicked off, kept holding the power button until the green light popped on again, released power button, and then finally the white light started pulsing, update started! Took only a couple minutes of leaving the TV alone where it then powered up normally and showed the setup screen! I was soo close to return the motherboard to the seller from ebay and buy a new TV. I even had it at the post office counter all repackaged for shipping quotes, but persisted and tried once more. Another TV saved thanks to you Nick! Cheers!!

Powered up and everything worked for 5-10 mins, then shutdown and went to a green/orange flashing led. I did the software update via USB and the LED which was previously Green/Orange changed to a slow pulsing white and slow spa music playing, however now I have no video, just sound. Unplugged replugged, hard reset(power,vol-) and doing the software update steps again all lead to the same outcome. Did I miss a step anywhere?

    Started to rotate usb ports on tv every time I turned on and turned off the tv at the wall when it didn’t read. When turning on, waiting for the tv to boot itself.
    Finally got the slow pulsing white led and about 15mins later, solid blue then android icons appeared.
    First time setup had been reached.
    Thanks to all comments and Nick especially on this video that said to persist with the painful pairing of a new main board.

      Yes, it's insane. you can do everything correctly and it still doesn't work until you do it like 3 times. We have had some weird ones like that.
      One tip though is if you get the music and no picture, that could be because one of the ribbons is not making good contact and reseating them might help.

    Great instructional video! I have a XBR-55X900E that occasionally re-booted randomly. Now, months later, it re-boots - turns off - turns on, reboots, endlessly, but only if the internal wi-fi is toggled on or an ethernet cable is plugged in. I can use the TV but without network functions it is no longer a Smart TV. When changing the main board, to a new one, the serial number and other data must be changed through the service menu correct? Are these usually ball-grid array solder problems on the main SoC? Or a fault within the SoC itself?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому +1

      The serial number and other data doesn't need to be changed, you can keep it as is and it won't affect the TV. If you haven't already purchased a new board, I highly suggest purchasing a fire TV stick instead, it will be much easier and cheaper to turn your TV back into a smart TV than replacing the mainboard.
      There are sometimes issues with one of the video processing chips with this model TV, but not always. And generally it's not a cracked solder issue, usually it's the chip itself that has become defective and needs to be replaced.

      @@NicksTVRepair Thanks for the reply. I considered the Fire TV Stick, but I have an XBOXone and a Blu-Ray player occupying the enhanced HDMI ports. The Fire stick would have to be used on one of the other HDMI ports where HDR is not possible. For now I am using the apps on the other devices with HDR and am using the TV as just a display device for now. Considering getting a new TV from what I know now, and using this 900E with a Fire TV stick for a bedroom or rec-room. I appreciate the work you do in trying to keep TV's out of the dumpsters. Too bad manufacturers don't have more reliable products to do their part in reducing pollution but they are only interested in selling more TV's.

    Nick,
    XBR-65X850D
    I am at the 6-8hr wait, of your instructions.
    Green and Amber were flashing for app. 15min, then pilot changed to White pulsing for another app. 15min.
    Then back the green and amber flashing for app. 15min.
    Then it went out altogether.
    That total process took about an hr.
    Now there is no front light, but Optical Output is occasionally turning on, then going out...every min. or so.
    Is it still in the pairing process ?
    [Update]
    Since it stayed that way for about 2 total hrs, I decided to hit the Power Button (FP). The White pulsing light started up again, for 30min or so, and I got a display saying the Update was complete
    (or something similar).
    I'm back to my original issue, horizontal line across the middle and intermittent foldover from that line down thru the bottom half of the picture (Bad LCD Panel).
    Question
    Are the Main and Tcon pairing together separate from the LCD Panel ? I ask because I would like to sell the pair.
    Or, does the buyer have to do the same thing I just did (pairing) Main, Tcon and Panel.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому +1

      Based on the information provided, you most likely have a perfectly functional main board and T-con and simply have a defective screen.
      You would be safe selling the modules knowing they are not the cause of the failure you are experiencing.
      These main boards are not known for causing these lines.
      Now selling the main board with the T-con will decrease the chance that the buyer will need to pair them together. I can't guarantee that will be the case, but I do believe that if both are indeed sold together, the odds of a pairing update being necessary will be almost 0.

      Unfortunately that is correct, at this point the software on your main board is most likely corrupted to the point that a software update won't be enough to correct the issue. The board will either need to be repaired on a component level or replaced.

    Nick, I have the XBR-55X900F and was hoping you could help determine if the main board is malfunctioning. The TV boots up into android startup screen (no Sony logo appears), then it goes to the Sony Home screen for about 5-7 seconds, goes blank, then back to Home screen again, repeats this cycle multiple times, then finally the screen goes blank after a couple minutes, the power light stays on and is white, never changes colors or no blinking either. I think the EMMC chip on the main board might be bad, but wanted to hear your thoughts on the problem. Thanks for you advise in advance. Marc

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      Hey Marc,
      It sure does sound like an EMMC fault to me, but I would suggest you try a factory reset and software update first to see if you can buy yourself a bit more time.
      To factory reset the TV unplug it from the wall and wait at least 10 seconds. Then using the buttons on the back of the TV, press and hold the volume down and power and keep them pressed in as you plug the TV back to power. Keep those pressed in for at least 10-15 seconds or until the standby light in the bottom from of the TV lights up green.
      Then you can release. This should reset everything back to default and hopefully get you back and running for a bit longer and should allow you to get a software update going if you aren't already on the newest version software.
      If this does not resolve the issue, then you will have to get the board replaced or repaired.

    Wow that’s a lot of work but great job explaining it! Sony’s latest update has got my X900F rebooting almost every time I power it up from sleep and it will occasionally reboot randomly (usually once every few days for this one) too so I was looking into replacing the main board. I’m still dreading the idea of doing so because while I have built computers since I was a kid, I’ve never worked with a TV before, and I can’t sleep without TV at night either so I would have to start way early in the morning if I hit the 6-8 hours point.
    What is it with Sony lately? Sony replaced my X900E I bought in 2017 with this thing like 10 months later after some panel issues and now my TV that was working flawlessly before the Android 9 updates is rebooting at least once a day. Is there a company that is even reliable these days? I hear that Samsung and LG are just as bad and TCL and Vizio are much worse. It’s crazy we spend $1000+ on something that doesn’t last more than a few years.

    Thanks Nicky for the explanation, in my case when I turned on my TV xbr-49x839C I did not connect the LVDS cables or the power to the T-COM, but I saw the green and orange lights come out when I turned it on, so I paid and connected the cables LVDS and the green and orange lights remained, I have done your thing but when I put the USB memory and turn on the TV a white LED turns on but it does not blink as in your video, it turns on and off slowly until in a few moments a light appears BLUE light that stays for a few seconds and turns off. After another few seconds, the green and orange light appears again for about 5 or 8 minutes until the lights finally turn off, if I turn on the TV with the remote control I get the sony startup sound but I have no video at all. What could be happening with my TV? Any idea how I could fix that.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому

      When disconnecting the LVDS ribbons from the mainboard to the T-con and powering on the set, this will cause the orange and green light to come on. This is because your mainboard is now no longer paired with your TV set. This is normal and will happen every time you power on the set with the ribbons disconnected.
      You need to reconnect those and pair the board using the instructions in the video. If the picture is still black after doing so, then either you have damaged your ribbons, or they are not seated properly.
      There is a chance your mainboard is defective as well, but since I have no information regarding the history of the board you have, that would be just a guess.

    So my 65x900E had the no power/no lights issue. I replaced the Power Board, and it worked for a week. So, I replaced the main board and the power board, and I still got the no power/no lights issue. I got a forth power board, and still no power/no lights (nothing, with any combo of the 2 Main Boards and 3 good Power Control Boards). My power brick tests good. I think the Power Board tests good. The ebay seller of the Main Board said it tested good before they shipped it. After watching your video I'm wondering if it's a cableing issue, or as I originally suspected my 2nd Power Board is no good in-spite of what the seller says. What are your thoughts?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 роки тому

      There is a chance the cables could be the issue, it is also possible the boards you are receiving are bad.
      Of course I do suggest you disconnect and reconnect all cables, wires and ribbons to ensure proper contact. If that does not resolve the problem I would suggest doing voltage checks and making sure your mainboard is getting power from the power board.
      If proper consistent voltage is being supplied, then your mainboard is defective and the replacement mainboard is also most likely defective. You could always try to force an update as well to resolve the issue with the mainboard but of course if the mainboard is truly defective, this won't help. You can check out our pairing procedure video below for more info on that:
      ua-cam.com/video/3kYPjIHt8Lc/v-deo.html
      If you are not getting the proper output voltage from the power board, then most likely it is at fault, or the power brick could also be at fault. Now keep in mind the power brick cables could also be making intermittent contact and could also be at fault, we have seen that happen.
      If you are unable to determine which part of the system is causing your problems, I would not be able to assist you further with online communication and would then suggest you send in your power brick, power supply board, and mainboard to our repair facility and have us take a look at it. We would be able to check each part individually and confirm functionality for you and of course fix which ever part is found to be defective.
      If you do want to send in your parts to have us check them out, make sure to send us an email first and we will let you know what steps you need to take to get started. Our contact info is linked below:

Will it work after pairing or is there another step to get it to work on a 65inch tv? I have heard that it may go into a service mode blindly and I will be unable to see how to navigate. Yup it sure will! You won't have any navigational issues what so ever. You can toss a 75" in a 49" or a 55" in a 65", they are all the same board and you won't have any problems what so ever as long as all those models are the 900E series.
      Regardless of the main board being from the same identical set or a different set, you may still need to pair the main board as shown in the video.
      We fix these main boards, and we fix all sizes for the 900E and the 850E. We have 1 XBR-49X900E TV that we use to live test all of those different models and sizes as long as it ends with 850E or 900E and they all display properly on our screen.

      @NicksTVRepair  2 місяці тому

      It is very important for you to tell me exactly how many times the red light was blinking. The light can blink 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, or 8 times. All of which will indicate a differnet fault with the TV. It is important you don't guess or think it maybe might be this amount of times. It needs to be 100% exact.
      Based on your answer I can tell you what you need to do to fix the TV.
      If you can't remember then you will most likely have to replace the mainboard first or send it in for repair, and then hope that was the issue from the get go. If it is not the issue from the get go we will then have to count the amount of red blinks after replacing the mainboard and start again from there.

If you have already made sure to change the name of the file on the flash drive and have no issues with the update taking, but still have black screen at the end of the pairing, I would then suggest re-seating the ribbons and trying again even if they look perfect.
      As for a new TV I would suggest LG OLED models as they are the best picture available out there but do come with a heavy price tag. For second best, Samsung QLED would be the next best.

      As the video suggests, the pairing can either take 1 hour, or two 30 minute periods.
      If the screen is still black after pairing the module, you will need to remove power from the TV, disconnect the ribbons and reconnect them. They most likely are not seated properly. From there turn everything back on and either the set will work or the pairing will need to be performed again.

      Hello,
      The failure you are experiencing is a main board failure. This is a common failure for these models. There should be some modules available for sale on eBay.
      The part number for the main board is:
      A-2094-466-A
      Pro tip, this main board is cross compatible between the following models
      XBR-65X750D
      XBR-55X700D
      XBR-49X800D
      XBR-49X700D
      XBR-43X800D
      So if you find a main board that was removed from any of those models, it will work with your TV set.
      This means if you do a search for the XBR-65X750D and the cheapest main board is $150, then try searching using the XBR-43X800D and you might find someone selling the same board for $85.

    Hello! I have the XBR 65x850c, which like many others has the "blue splotches on white color" issue. I figured I'd try to disconnect the TCON board then reconnected it, while getting the part number. The TV powers up, the backlights turn on (with a violet/blue color), and the diagnostic turns on with white. No picture or menu displayed. I'm reflashing the TV with upgrade_loader.pkg, and seeing what happens. Any advice on what else I should do? (I noticed that the TCONN board likely should have had thermal grease or a thermal pad between the chip and head spreader, but there is nothing. The TCONN board makes a high pitched buzzing noise when on)

      Hello Matt,
      You stated in your message
      "I have the XBR 65x850c, which like many others has the "blue splotches on white color" issue"
      We have actually never heard of this issue before. Would you have a picture or a video you could link us to so that we may get a visual of what you are reffering to.
      As for the T-con, that is correct there should be a thermal pad. We have occasionally seen thermal pads missing from TV's or the pads not being placed properly and thus not doing their jobs correctly thus increasing the chance for us to see it fail.
      I would suggest doing the software update per the video but if issues still keep happening, replacement of the T-con first will be a much easier and cheaper alternative.
      If that still does not resolve the issue however, a picture of the issue or video would help us greatly understand what you are reffering to.
      As for the buzzing sound, we have heard buzzing from our T-cons in our test sets, some buzzing is okay. Very loud buzzing may be an indication of failure however.

    Nick, i just replaced my main board and LVDS ribbon cables on my X900F. I was able to get the latest firmware from Sony and rename it upgrade_loader as suggested in your video, but I only have back light with no video or GUI. I hear audio, but there is no video. This is the third main board I have tried, including my original. I also changed out the TCON board, but I sent both the main board and TCON board back as it was doing the exact same thing. Does this sound like a bad screen/panel? All of the symptoms were similar however, I was getting the full screen single colors and checkerboard pattern with my original main board, original TCON, and original LVDS cables, but I could not get the firmware to update in this situation. Any suggestions?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Based on the information provided your screen is most likely in proper working condition and the issue lies with improper pairing or data transfer. It is very possible your ribbons are not seated properly as that is generally the most likely cause of these symptoms. I suggest you double check your connections on the T-con board both the ribbons going to the panel as well as the ones going to the main board, and finally the wired connections as well.
      Recheck all of those and try powering back up. You may still need to perform the pairing once again however since the main board may not have paired properly due to the improper contact of the ribbons and or cables.
      Per the video, it is also possible to do everything correctly and still not get proper results. If the proper results still don't appear after reseating all the cables and ribbons, you can also try a soft reset with the flash drive plugged in.
      The instructions for a soft reset are linked below:

      @@NicksTVRepair Nick, thanks for the reply but I don't see any mention of a soft reset in the link. Is this the forced factory reset or power reset linked in the url? I have already done both power reset and the forced factory reset, but not with the firmware USB plugged in. I will double check all of the cables to be sure they are connected properly. So far I have not messed with the cables going to the panel from the TCON board. These things seem way too sensitive to be practical/reasonable connectors for any amount of time. I had a technician come over to look at my TV and he only replaced the mainboard with the exact same symptom. I feel like he really didn't want to help after one thing did not fix my issue. I asked him to tell me specifically what the problem was, power supply, fuse, shorted circuit, TCON, main board, LED driver board, various bad cables, or a bad panel, but he just wanted this to be simple and easy board swap, which it wasn't going to be as I explained to him in great detail . I thanked him and told him I would try to figure it out myself. He wasn't really interested in finding the root cause of the problem.

    I followed the steps in the video. After changing the file name to upgrade_loader.pkg, I got the white pulsing light, after a few minutes, I got a single blue pulse. And then a bright white to dim white transition. The LED indicator stays that way. The backlight is turned on, there is nothing on the screen. And I hear some mild music from the speakers. I can use the TV remote to change the speaker volume. But there is nothing in the screen.

      Try reseatign the ribbons again. Typically this fault is due to improper contact with the ribbons.
      Also make sure to check both the ribbons that go from the mainboard to the T-con as well as from the T-con to the screen circuit boards.
      If you still have issues after that, then I am unsure what else could be the fault. It's possible your mainboard could be affected if you have an 850E 900E or one of the 2018 models

      The dark blue light almost violet is normal as long as it doesn't stay stuck on it. If it stays stuck on it then you have a crictical software fault which typically means a new EMMC chip will need to be installed. However if the pairing keeps occuring endlessly as well, then it would still mean you have a software fault same thing will need to happen, new emmc with fresh software.

    Hi Nick,
    My 49X900F needed a new t-con board which I replaced. That seemed to fix the problem of no picture and everything seemed to be working great with one exception, the green and amber flashing light. After doing some research I learned that the way to fix that was to do the usb update. I downloaded the software to a flash drive and re-named the file as you recommend. The update started and seemed to be going along just fine but at some point the tv shut down and did not power back up. I waited quite a while before trying to power it up manually. When I did it would not respond at all. The only sign of life is a green light that I get when holding the power and volume down buttons on the back of the set and then plugging in the pwr. cord, nothing happens after that. Assuming that the main board was the culprit I've ordered a replacement. I'm concerned though that the same thing might happen. Any thoughts/advice?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      You most likely had a mainboard failure about to happen. The update wouldn't cause a failure like that unless your hardware was already defective. It should be fine to update unless somehow the update gets interrupted such as a loss of power, or early removal of the flash drive.

Tried everything in your video including downloading the software to a different flash drive, nothing works. The backlights come on with some power up attempts but not every time. I also have sound and the optical output is red so the board is getting some power. I tried disconnecting the lvds ribbons one at a time and then both at the same time but it didn't make any difference, the tv behaved the same way. I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Do you have any suggestions or recommendations if there is no amber/green light at anytime? I've tested the power supply and main board with a voltage meter and compared to the manual, and it appears as they're both functioning, but no display, sound, lights, etc from the TV. The USB does show power (red LED) when plugged in and power is connected to the TV.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  4 роки тому

      With the flash drive plugged in and renamed to upgrade_loader.pkg turn the TV on. Make sure the TV is fully on, so allow at least 15 -20 seconds after pressing the power button for the TV to turn on.
      Once it is on, press and hold the power button on the back of the TV until the pilot light goes away. Once it does go ahead and release the button. This can take anywhere between 10 - 30 seconds. Wait another 10 -15 seconds and the set should turn itself back on and detect the flash drive. At this point the set should be taking the update. If it does not, repeat the procedure. If you still don't get the TV to take the update, the next step would be to have you remove the flash drive and power, disconnect the LVDS ribbons from the main board and power it back up. This should trigger the amber green light. Once it does, disconnect the TV from power, connect the LVDS ribbons back in, plug in the flash drive, and apply power. One of the above steps should take care of the issue.

So at this point I either buy a new main, and risk maybe the panel is bad, (likely) or buy a panel tester, test the pane,l but at least I have the tester to show for my money. If the panel test bad. I could buy a new main if ok. I did get it paired and had a pic, although it had lines and dark areas, so the main prob was ok I'm afraid.

    • @NicksTVRepair

      If you have a Sony TV I don't ever recommend trying a reflow. 2015 and newer Sony sets never fail due to cracked solder joints. It's always a part that needs to be replaced.
      The heat profile is not what causes warping, uneven heat to the board is what causes it. You have to heat the entire board at the same rate, if you don't then you get warping.
      By default, you will always have a little warping because different materials have different thermal expansion coefficients, but you can reduce that warping by doing more even heat to the board.

      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      Hello Richard,
      A 4 blink error code is an error code due to defective LED's. I uderstand you tested them and they tested good, however most testing equipment is not sensitive enough to detect failed LED's unless they completely failed open or shorted.
      The best course of action at this point since the LED's aren't fully failed would be to bypass the error by shorting out the
      BL-ERROR pin to ground. This will prevent the set to go into a 4 blink code. This is not a "correct" repair, but will not negatively affect the TV. Once the LED's fully fail, then you will start to see dark spots on screen wihtout triggering the failure and will at least still be able to use the TV.
      If you aren't sure how to ground the BL-ERROR pin, please let us know and we can try to explain it better.

      It sounds like you may have a panel failure. The true fix would be to replace the screen, however that is not a financially feasible option as it would cost more to fix the TV as it would buying a new one. However there are tricks that can be done to still fix the issue without a full replacement. This maybe something you can do on your end at home without needing expensive equipment or tools.

      your mainboard must be defective in a more serious way then. An update may not be enough and you may need to send in the board for repair, and or replace it then. A good amount of the mainboards we receive for repair, come in completely dead, and that's when we have to replace some of the hardware to get them working again.

    Hey nick's repair how do u ground the blacklight error pin on my sony xbr65x900e. Thanks!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      We have never had to do that for the 900E models before, but I would suggest you simply don't plug in the ribbon that connects the main board to the LED driver board. Fully remove it entirely from both plugs and try to power up the set. This will cause an auto on for the backlight but also will make you loose contrast quality of lighting by doing so as it will be stuck on full brightness for every scene no matter what.
      Now if that doesn't work and the backlight still doesn't stay on, then you simply will have to replace the LED strips. Those strips are available for sale at Shopjimmy.com. They have 2 versions, so double check which one you have before buying

      @@NicksTVRepair tried the ribbon removal and it doesn't even show a picture. The led turns on right away when plugged in then shuts off. Then I try to turn it on I get the white light for a sec then 4 blinking red lights. Now I have a led tester and I tested the strips and all worked and turned on. Do u still think it's a led issue?

    Is there a different name to rename the .pkg fir H series. I put a new t-con into a 75z8h and got red/white alternating instead of amber/green. Other sites say that means it needs update. Won't take with Sony's file after extraction. Won't take after renaming it to upgrade_loader.pkg either. Any ideas?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  11 місяців тому

      This only works with the C-D-E-F models per the video title. The G-H and any newer models you will NOT want to rename the file. It will not work.
      Red white does mean it needs to be paired/updated.
      For the G and H models you will need to download the file, extract it only once, and then put that file on the flashdrive as is.
      Then plug it into the TV and then plug the TV to power.
      It should take.

    I am at the point of where I am doing the 6 to 8 hour thing. I started about 6 PM and an hour later the light turned yellow. About 15 minutes after that the light turned red and is still solid red at about 8:30 PM. I am planning on leaving it run like that for another 5 hours. But I do not know what I should do after that .

      Martin,
      What model TV do you have? This video covers a few dozen models accross about 4 years of Sony TVs.
      The red light you are seeing generally is an indication of some sort of error, but can also be normal if your have the 2017 model which end with the letter E.

I had replaced the LVDS cable before I started the update and put the old one back in, Hit the power button and the pix was back and I now have the customers set working. It must have updated overnight with the bad cable. Thanks for everything.

    Hi Nick, i have a xbr65x850d that the original main board is stuck in boot loop. I received two replacement main boards. When installed i get white/green flashing light but no backlight or picture, is this because of pairing? I get picture and backlight with my old board but not with replacements.

      Willie,
      Yes that is correct, you will need to pair your board in order for it to work with your TV set. Unfortunately this is not a plug and play situation. Once the board is paired however there is a chance the original board will no longer work with the TV set as it will have paired itself with the new boards you installed. You can reverse it and pair the original back again if you would like however.

      @@willieoutlaw4957 For your situation you had mentioned an android man appears on screen. That android guy/logo will stay on screen for up to 30 minutes or an hour. It may appear as if it is stuck/ frozen, but it is simply updating. If you unplug or remove power during the updating process, you may damage the board. I recommend you let it sit/update for over an hour just to be sure. If the android guy is still on screen for more than 1 hour, then you may in fact have an issue with the update/pairing properly installing and may in fact have a circuit board with bad software.
      These sets do require a lot of patience. A lot more than any other brand.

    My X800E does start the white glowing LED and it said on the TV that it's updating. The update process goes only halfway and it stopped. The screen goes out with the blue LED shown before it goes back to Sony logo and stuck there.
    Any suggestions would be great.

    • @NicksTVRepair

      Based on the information, it seems you might have an issue with the main board that is more severe and will need a part replacement. I would suggest trying the update at least 3 times, but if it still has issues after the third time, it is likely you will need to either purchase a new replacement board, or have your original board serviced if new replacements are not available.

    • @NicksTVRepair

      Hello,
      The issue you are experiencing is due to improper contact between the LVDS ribbons and the connectors either on the mainboard side or the T-con side. Try disconnecting them, cleaning them out and reconnecting.
      You may need to pair the mainboard after doing this

      Nick's TV Repair Nick, I am not sure what happened. I unplugged the tv from the power source and tried again. After about 15 minutes of amber-green flashing the tv turned off. When I turned it back on from the remote the white flash began and the update process was completed about 15-20 minutes later. Everything appears to be working as new again. Thank you for all of your help.
      Just for future owners I had to try 10-12 times to get the pairing process to begin with my USB stick, I did not change the name of the update loader as i did not have my PC with me. This may have been what took it so long to work.

      So recently Sony did take down the software for the flash drive. We had luckily saved a version of it.
      When we heard they took it down we uploaded it on the Megaupload website which is a file-sharing service we are paying a monthly fee to share this software. We are not charging for it, you can download it for free here now:

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 роки тому

      That I am aware of there is no simple way to delete the update, you may be able to revert back to it if you are able to find an old version of it available online, place it on the flashdrive and forced the old update back onto the TV but this most likely will not resolve your issue. You can most likely find the channels again by preforming a channel scan. This will sometimes happen after a software update of if a factory reset is perfomed, the channels will be lost.
      A simple channel scan should resolve the issue.
