Can I send the Mainboard for a Sony Bravia KJ-55A8F? I did the firmware update but something went wrong and it wouldn’t turn back on after.
Actually, should I be doing this for a Sony Bravia KJ-55A8F?
The display turns on but the colors are super dark, at the bottom the light flashes green and orange but when I turn the tv off and back on it just displays a solid white. I did replace the T-con board and I have a new mainboard. Please advise thank you so much
I should also mention that I live in Japan, is it possible I used the wrong firmware version? How do I know the difference

I prefered to stay plugged usb with updated software file over a night than it will open itself i guess.

Awesome Info. I changed the main board and the TV powered on (flashing green and red lights), BUT NO picture on screen. I downloaded the updated FIRMWARE as explained and the TV reset to initial setup screen in 10 minutes. THANK YOU!!!

Hello Nick, I watched your video, and I recently had some issues with the TV picture flashing horizontally every few seconds and decided to get a Tcon board replacement. It just arrived yesterday but when I installed it, the green amber lights on the led indicator started blinking.
I've tried most everything stated on your video but doesn't seem to have any effect.
Sometimes it would
1) start with a slow pulsing white light, this would pulse for about less than 5 minutes 2) and then one blue blink,
3) and then the green amber light would start accompanied by some ambient music on the TV speakers. But still display remains black with no back light or picture.
After a while, this would stop and then restart the cycle from 1)
Answer:
The slow pulsing white light means it is updating/pairing and that's what you want. That blue light color also will happen for a second or two at the very end indicating the updating/pairing is completed. However, if it goes back to the amber green after that, it means the updating is not finished or it could not fully/properly update and needs to be done again.
A few reasons this could be happening are the software on the flash drive is not the newest up-to-date version. In order to get the latest software, you will need to download it from the Sony support website. If you have already done this, the next reason could be because the ribbon that connects the mainboard to the T-con is not connected properly or was damaged during the replacement. You will need to disconnect the ribbon, inspect it, and make sure the small exposed metal pins on the bottom of the ribbon aren't bent or damaged in any way. If they are okay, then insert the ribbon back in and try again.
If the issue still persists, then the next ribbons to look at are the ones on the other side of the T-con that connect from the T-con to the screen. Disconnect those, check them visually again and if all are good, reconnect them.
Lastly, if you still have issues, you may just have gotten a bad board. That is possible and why it is not pairing properly.

Now the pendrive and software doesn't change a thing unlike before. What do I do now..As technicians in my country Ghana are struggling to fix this too.. It seems they are not yet at speed with android tvs..?
Great tutorial. Fixed a 75x900F with this. Changed to upgrade_loader or whatever the video said and worked. Old board stuck on Sony logo and froze, restart twice 8x blink then. New board needed update. Wish I had emmc changing capabilities, have needed like 10x already. Thanks again.

Hey thx for your info & video, so I did what you mentioned and after the update was done I get a blue light on led info light but no pic or sound. What caused my problem was that I went through the whole process of removing led panel to clean inside surface, I believe I accidently fired tv without the T-con board & got the LEDs to fire up so that I can verify, after putting everything back together thats when my issue started, I have removed and reattached all ribbons but still no firing, I used to be able to get a clicking sound when tv would power on but not with this issue, any thoughts would greatly help.
Most likely need to reseat your ribbons. That is the number 1 reason people have issues with the pairing is improper contact with the ribbons inside hte connectors. Disconnect and reconnect them and try again.
Hi Nick!
The TV modele: XBR-75X905E. The replaced part was the T-CON. The reason for replacing the T-CON was excessive heating of the DC/DC Converter. After this replacement, the orange and green LEDs were flashing simultaneously.
I tried to pair, the process occurs normally until the blue LED lights up. After that, the TV turns on and the white LED flashes for a few seconds and the TV turns off.
I really am not sure. This is all speculative but the mainboard could have been somehow affected, the screen could be bad, or perhaps the T-con you got is also bad. I think for this one I would need to have the TV in front of me to be able to diagnose myself to be able to assist. Sorry I know it's not the answer you are looking for but I am not sure as this is not a common fault.

I bought a board from a TV kd 65xe8596 after the replacement, the opening music seems to play, the backlight is on, but I have no picture.
12v is on the tcon board. Don't you know what could be wrong?

Try different USB ports, make sure it's been renamed and if you still have issues then it's possible your replacement mainboard is bad?
Hello Nick! Thanks for your video! I have a question because what you showed didn't work for me unfortunately. What happened? A few days ago, while watching a movie, my TV displayed something like a "matrix" board (I'm not sure how to explain it better). After I restarted the TV, a white full screen appeared from the middle, and then the screen went blank, and the indicator started blinking red 5 times. I read that this might be a Tcon issue, so I found and replaced it. Now, I have a green/orange blinking indicator. I tried to do what you showed in the video, but after loading the file, the indicator started blinking 1 long orange/amber and then for a couple of seconds, it turned red, and it keeps repeating in an infinite loop. Do you have any idea what's going on? Should I replace the motherboard as well, or what else could be causing this problem?
EDIT: Okey, I fixed this problem by changed USB Device, unfortunately, when software has been updated/upgraded/installed. i can hear sound from the TV, but screen is not display anything, only backlight works, what should I do to fix this problem in 100%? Please help me :(
This usually means the ribbons are not properly installed. Disconnect and reconnect the ribbons. Then try pairing again. This should resolve the issue.

Where can I send pics? I have an electronics and degree but the way they taught was general, AC/DC. digital, semiconductors, that sort of thing. Texas State Technical College, Waco TX. I watch a lot of you tube on it. But its hard to get good advice, I hit roadblocks a lot and have no clue, what equipment is key to diag? What do you think about those TV panel testers on Ebay?
I bought one of the panel testers but never ended up using it. Often it's pretty obvious when the panel is bad. How do I know when a panel is bad? Well depends on the model and really it comes down to experience. But the big draw back is that the panel tester won't be able to test a lot of the screens that have no T-con and are mainboard direct to panel especially samsungs. The adapters are not there. Or you have to constantly buy the newer one for each new model that comes out every year.
I don't know, never got into using it.

Sony stopped supporting 2014 and older models and no longer have the software on their website, I do believe there are other sites with the software, but I don't know exactly where.

It's instant. When you turn it on it should go straight to the white light. If you still get amber green, try disconnecting power and reconnecting. If after disconnecting and reconnect 3 times it still shows amber green, try a different USB slot. If you still keep getting that issue, make sure to double check the name of the file, it has to be exact. Also make sure the file is not inside a folder. If it is inside a folder, it won't work. If you still have issues, maybe try a different flashdrive.
If you still have issues you can also try disconnecting power, press and hold the volume down and power buttons on the back of the TV (not the remote) and while holding those buttons plug the TV back in. Keep pressing the buttons until the standby light in the front of the set turns green. Then release. Then let it sit for a bit and then it should flash the white light.

I had replaced a new logic board, is this one of the reason that doesn't work?
I heard that Sony have many restrictions, the orignial logic board's serial numbers locate at the main chips, so the new logic board can't connect with it.
I am not sure that is affect by this issue or not.

Sony XBR 55-X900E My screen flashes red blue green white and a combination of those colours horizontally & vertically. Sound seems to work. Would this be a main board issue as well
There are 2 reasons this could be happening. #1 is you just replaced this mainboard with a new one and didn't properly seat the ribbon cables. This would be an easy fix and would simply require you to reseat the ribbon cables properly to resolve the issue. (The ribbon cables can also easily get damaged, so if this is the case you will need to purchase new ones)
#2 The TV was never opened and this is a fault which occured on it's own from normal wear and tear.
Then yes, most likely it would be due to a faulty video processor chip on the mainboard. This is a fault we can service for you if needed. When is this needed? In cases that the replacement main board came from a diffrent tv model ?
This is needed when the Green and orange light is flashing, and sometimes even if it is not. When ever you replace or install a new mainboard the mainboard may not always recognize the unit, if that is the case, then you will need to pair the mainboard to the TV set.
Hi Nick! After replacing the T-CON, the -10v and 27v voltages are normal and the DC/DC converter IC has an OK temperature and the panel is not shorted.
After replacing the T-CON, the green and orange LEDs kept flashing as shown in the video.
I carried out the update procedure, but I believe an error is occurring: At a certain point in the process the blue LED appears and then the TV turns off. After 3 or 4 seconds it tries to restart and it turns off again. Then it turns on again and the white light appears and the update restarts and this process repeats itself.
This is the current state of TV.
Question: During the update process, does the panel's background light stay on?
During the update process sometimes the TV stays completely off only with the standby light flashing the white light. Sometiems the TV can turn on and show a picture on screen displaying the progress bar of the pairing.
If you are getting just a glow meaning the TV is on, the backlight is on, but there is no picture on screen, then it means your screen is not displaying the picture it is supposed to be displaying.
I would highly recommend reseating the ribbons between the panel and the T-con as well as between the T-con and the mainboard and trying again.
If this does not resolve the issue, then either your screen is defective, your mainboard is also defective, or it is also possible the ribbons could be damaged and need to be replaced.

@@cenfaicenfai9917 i tried many things, and even download some android tv version with extension (PKG), change the name to upgrade_loader.pkg, unplugged the tv, put the memory in FAT32, then it tries to update, but it does not take more than 2 seconds to restart, kept trying and downloaded several files, but no result :/ .... Sounds like your mainboard is bad then. If you can't get it to work again after the update then the mainboard is defective and needs to be either replaced or sent in for repair. @@NicksTVRepair Yes it is. Someone told me that the problem is in the eMMC-NAND chip, it needs to be reprogrammed with some special tools.

I had to do it a few times, I was getting the blinking green and orange lights over and over.
Now, the light is constant white, not pulsating. Still no picture and the soft music is still playing. Does this mean it’s still updating/pairing? Do I keep waiting? It’s been 30min.

If the white light is not pulsing then it is no longer pairing.
If you have the music playing it means you are on the start up menu screen. If you are not getting picture and have not replaced your mainboard meaning the mainboard in your TV is the original one, then most likely your mainboard has failed and needs to be fixed.
If you have replaced your mainboard and still have this issue, the most likely reason for the fault is because the ribbons are not properly inserted and they need to be reseated.

Nick thanks for the video. My XBR 55x850c was flashing white while doing the update then suddenly it flashed purple for once and then the orange and green light started flashing again. I retried the update 5 times with no success. Any idea what could be the issue? Like it’s something like the update fails half way.
This could be happening for a few reasons.
#1 your ribbons aren't making proper contact or are damaged. So first thing to try is reseating the ribbons. If that doesn't work there is a chance your ribbons are damaged and need to be replaced.
#2 your mainboard is defective. Is this a used mainboard? Was it recently replaced?

Hi nick! During the process my TV does not turn on the backlight. I replaced the tapes between the panel and the T-CON and between the T-CON and the motherboard and the problem persists. In this case, is the problem with the motherboard in the EmmC memory?

The backlight does not have turn on for the pairing process to occur. It can, but does not have to. As long as the white standby light is pulsing on and off, then you are pairing and should not disconnect the TV from power or remove the flashdrive under any circumstance.
As for if you have a problem with one of the parts in your tv, you would need to give me the symtpoms of the TV. Why are you pairing your mainboard to your T-con and panel if you didn't replace a part? If you did replace a part, which one and why? Lastly it would be good to know the model of your set. Do you have the exact same model as the one I have in the video?

I don't think the G and F are interchangeable. You may have to get an exact correct replacement mainbaord for it to work.
Replaced the tcon board this helped me get past the orange and green lights and now the display isn’t showing anything but the back light is on any help ?
Recheck your ribbons, perform the pairing process.
XBR-65X850D diagnosing t-con/panel issue and forgot to reconnect t-con board before powering up the TV. Need to firmware reflash. I guess main needs to be flashed to pair with the panel on SONYs. Had to do 2x before working. Thanks.
Yup sometimes its 1 time sometimes you have to do it twice.
I have had a few occasions where it may have glitched and I had to do it 3 times.

I have purchased a replacement main board and when it is installed the tv audio comes on (can hear it playing some background music but black screen), and the light flashes green and amber.
I've followed the process here but when I plug the usb in and then power on it goes back to orange and green flashing light with the Sony background music playing. Any ideas ?

Most likely the ribbons aren't properly inserted.
Reseat your ribbons and give it another go. That should resolve the issue.

If you don't have 5v to the USB then try unplugging the TV from power, press and hold the power and volume down buttons on the TV itself, not emote, and then as you keep those pressed in plug the TV to power.
This will force reset the TV and may resolve the issue.
As for the no picture on screen it's almost always an issue of the LVDS Ribbons not making proper contact. Disconnect and reconnect them.

I have a KDL-65W857C which has a motherboard 1-980-805-31, I found a similar motherboard with a KDL-43W755C which has a motherboard 1-893-880-11. When I turn on the TV, it lights up green and orange. I tried to install the new firmware, but even after an hour nothing has changed.
These boards can't be swapped like that. They are not cross compatible. You have to install an identical matching board.
Sony does not have older firmware for older TV. Would you know where I can find. Xbr 75x-940c ?

I was trying to download the firmware for my 55x900c and apparently in Sony's great wisdom they have removed the ability to get it from them.... Do you have any links to alternate downloads for the firmware?
There are no alternative solutions availabe at this time. I am working on hosting it myself via megaupload but don't have anything available yet.

I did what you showed, trying to install the firmware via USB. I did everything as shown. Unfortunately, I'm facing a problem while updating screen appears, everything seems to be working properly but the TV even doesn't get to the half of the process shown when suddenly turns off by itself and simultaneously the led blinks a color violet or kinda blue just once. Then it restarts as usual with the same problem so, I'm not able to install the firmware 😪 gotta mention that procees of hard reset by pushing power and vol - buttons simultaneously, doesn't work as well, the halo appears around 3 seconds, then the tv turns off and restarts in the same bucle 😪😔 do you know what the problem can be ? Isn't it software problem?

What you are describing are symptoms of a mainboard malfunction. There is nothing more you can do troubleshooting-wise. You will need to either buy a new one or send in your board for repair.

It can take sometimes 15 minutes but most often it's either 30 minutes and needs to be done twice, or 1h and only needs to be done once.

Was 5 red flashes the original fault? If yes then it could be due to a defective panel which is not repairable. If not and you were replacing those boards for another reason then it is possible you received a bad board or damaged your LVDS ribbon.
@@NicksTVRepair initially it restarted, at least according to the owner. but I don't know if it didn't bang after that. first the diodes didn't flash at all, nor did the relay click, after replacing the motherboard the led at least started flashing, but 5 times in red. Then I also replaced the tcon and it still flashes 5 times on red
Okay, so if the original fault was dead no power or it was boot looping and the 5 blink code only occurred after replacing the boards, it means either the boards sent are bad, or the ribbons connecting the boards to the screen are either not seated right and need to be disconnected and reconnected, or they need to be replaced because they got damaged.

sometimes yes sometimes no.
Just check to see if the white light is pulsing, that's the most important.

I have also had it only take 15 minutes but when that happens it usually means something is not right. In that case you often have to reseat your ribbons, disconnect and reconnect a few things to make sure it's all make contact as it should and then try again.
Same problem on 42w700b motherboard in 32w700b install but it not paired . It needs to change Nand flash ic to pair plz help sir
If not paired then it needs to be paired. This TV is discontinued and no longer supported. We do not have the pairing software. I won't be able to help with pairing on any models older than 2015.

This is a 4GB flash drive for sale. The USB drive is formatted to Fat 32 and has free software from Sony's website.
The software is free and available on their site. “You are not purchasing the software, you are purchasing the drive” 🤷♂️

Does anyone know where i can find firmware for older models - 2013 TV and sony just removed the damn software, all i was able to find was a bin file..
Unfortunately if Sony removed the software from their website, then I don't believe there is anymore support for the device. The only option would be 3rd parties but I am not aware of any that would have this software available. Be very careful where you download from especially if it is not the official Sony website.

No that won't work, according to the service manual, the 2 red blink code, is the power supply. You will need to have it replaced or fixed on a component level in order to fix your TV.

This happened to my TV after I replaced a new Tcon board. Is for main board only? Or it is also for Tcon board? Thanks
It's for both technically.
The mainboard and the T-con board communicate with one another and need to be paired together, most commonly people replace the mainboard which is why we advertised the video as such but it also applies for when you replace the T-con.

Please keep in mind we only cover the 2015-2018 models which are the ones that end with the letters C, D, E, and F.
If your model number doesn't end with one of those 4 letters then your best bet is to follow the instructions in the video.

This is not covered in the video and that's because you are most likely downloading the files for a much newer set. The newer sets should not need pairing and do not flash an amber green light.

Tried these instructions but I always get stuck on the flashing orange and green leds. After using the flash drive, the LED begins pulsing white but after about 5 minutes, the LED turns blue for 2 seconds and then it returns to flashing orange and green. Eventually, it turns off by itself and when I turn it back on, the LED has a solid white light but no picture on the panel. I don't hear music but when I press certain buttons, I can hear a response from the TV.
I've reseated the ribbons so many times to try and fix it. The ribbons themselves look fine too
It's possible the ribbons are damaged then.
My question to you would be why are you doing this in the first place? Did you just replace the mainboard? If so did you purchase a used board from eBay? If so it's possible the board you received is defective which would explain why it can't pair.
If you have not replaced your mainboard what prompted you to do this in the first place. Most likely some sort of fault with your TV which would mean there is a defective board in the system. Again another reason why the pairing wouldn't be working.
@@NicksTVRepair No, these are the original parts. The TV just stopped working all of a sudden one day, it wouldn't turn on anymore. I sent in my main board to you guys and you said there was no issue with it. However, it refuses to pair when I try it (using the flash drive you guys gave me).
Most likely one of the ribbons is not seated properly or is damaged. This causes the mainboard to not be able to communicate properly with the panel and thus can't pair.
It's not common but it's also possible then that your DPS board or T-con are not working properly.

Should take either 30 minutes or 1h. If it takes 12h then I would say unplug the TV, disconnect the flashdrive, and try the same process with a different flashdrive.
If it still doesn't work, then you may have a defective mainboard.
Even after downloading, extracting, renaming and inserting USB in TV and plugging it on. Still the TV is showing Orange and Green light, pls help me.
Try multiple times. Maybe your LVDS ribbons are not properly inserted.

@@NicksTVRepairThanks for replying.The tv set is KD-65XG9505 2018 MODEL. Before Tcon replacement the tv was going on as normal and sound was working. when i installed the new Tcon i got green amber led blinking at 1st start. now the tv is constantly blinking green amber even with or without the Tcon. Factory hard reset does not help. Sony site has info only about upgrading via usb which can only be done when the tv is functioning. And the firmware they have is only .zip file which i believe does not do the right job. So. Any idea's please...
After my moms tv got hit by lightning, instead of throwing it in the dumpster I took on the challenge of attempting to fix it. After replacing both boards from parts off eBay, I followed your instructions to a T and successfully reprogrammed and it works perfectly!

Okay, try this.
Unplug the TV from power and plug the flash drive in.
Press and hold the volume down and power simultaneously on the TV not on the remote and hold them in as you plug the TV back in to power. Keep them pressed in for at least 10-15 seconds or until the light turns solid green. Then release. This should force reset the TV and force the pairing/update to occur.
Want to Power button press or not

Then it is very possible something is not properly plugged in. I would recommend rechecking all of your connections on all boards.
Additionally, you could try disconnecting the TV from power. Press and hold the volume down and power button and keep them pressed in while plugging the TV back to power. This should force reset the TV and push it to look for the flashdrive to force the update/pairing.

Sorry, but 1 white flash and 2 red flashes don't exist as a code.
Are you sure that's what it's doing? What model number TV do you have? Please keep in mind this video only works for the 2015-2018 models. If your set is older or newer then you can NOT use this video to pair your mainboard.
I followed your instructions but was the tv supposed to turn itself on or wax I to turn it on myself? Because I turned it on a I am still flashing green and amber with the music in the background. Its been going for about 30 minutes now.😑
Update: After the wait I tuned it off and made sure made I label the page file properly. Unplugged and waited. Then inserted the flash drive and plugged the unit back up. I DID NOT turn it on hoping it would auto start. No joy. The light flashed green and amber and eventually just turned solid red. The USB never engaged. I then manually turned it on and got the same green and amber lights and the USB still did not load. (I have a light indicator on it)
You have to do the update a second time.
@@NicksTVRepair So I followed all of the instructions again and still nothing. The USB did not download just like the first time. Just the green and amber light and the music.
UPDATE: After 7 days and multiple attempts...it finally works!!! Thank so much..

Most likely you did not seat your ribbons correctly and that is why you aren't getting picture on screen.
I highly recommend you reseat your ribbons and try again.

You often have to run the update twice. If you ran it say 3 times and you still have the same issue then most likely either the mainboard is defective, the ribbons are not properly plugged in, or the ribbons are damaged and need to be replaced.

Hello Nick.. today after I signed in to my Gmail account on UA-cam on my Sony Bravia TV, it went off and started blinking red lights. What do I do now please?

The TV turned on, but the image on the display was blurry. Half of the screen turns green and the other white.
Voltages of -10v and 27V were not present on the T-CON. Checking the IC that generates these voltages, it was heating up beyond normal. This was the reason for replacing the T-CON board.
Wow that's very strange I have never seen or heard of that fault before. This could be due to a faulty screen and the T-con was fine.
Does the replacement T-con have the same issue with that IC getting way hotter than it should? If yes most likely it is because the panel has a short which most often is not fixable, but sometimes can be if it is as simple as a shorted capacitor on one of the address boards.
If the IC still gets very hot, then disconnect half the screen. If the IC still gets hot disconnect the other half. Does it still get hot? If no then reconnect the first side that was disconnected and recheck.
This is to identify which half is defective.
Then using a meter check the components on the address board for shorts.
how to do it on a Mac?
I don't have or use a Mac so I don't know if there are any different steps, but I can't imagine the process to be different in any way since the end result has to be the same for the TV to accepct it.

Maybe maybe not. Is it a light blue like almost teal? If so it is indicating that it is trying to pair to a bluetooth device. If it is a very dark blue like almost purple, then you have an EMMC fault that will need to be fixed to resolve the issue.

What was the original failure with your TV that prompted you to replace the T-CON? How do we know the mainboard was not the fault in the first place and is still the fault? I only ask because 9 times out of 10 the mainboard is the faulty part with these models.

Yeah they took it down a month ago or so. Not much I can do about it unfortunately.
It happens, love the tv and appreciate your helpful videos. Felt like it was such a waste to have to scrap such a nice tv even though its 7-8 years old. Replaced the TPS board and got power back and restored the firmware from a file I found but now I can hear the set up screen but no picture. Think at this point I will invest in a new tv and let go of her ;) Thanks again
When this happens often it's because the ribbons aren't seated right. Try disconnecting and reconnecting your ribbons.
Also we have the software hosted on megaupload now.
hello guys, I have an XBR-65X90CH and the same thing as Henry Rijotv is happening to me and CENFAI CENFAI, after updating it has stayed in the SONY Logo it restarts a few times, until it just freezes.

If your Sony TV fails after an update it's because one of the chips on the mainboard has become defective and won't allow the software to work correctly. It's not actually the software itself that is bad otherwise you would be able to fix it with the flashdrive.
What this means is you have to either replace the mainboard, or if you can't find a replacement, send it to be fixed.
