I wish I would have found this 3 hours of searching ago. You explained the low speed idle screw with such simplicity and we saw and heard it. ThankYou for these professional videos. Good Lord , finally.
My 1985 250SX started flooding ourt today while riding it. These vids are very informative and being I haven't played with a carb in about 25 yrs, this has given me some tips and brought back some memories. I'm more confident now about tackling my carb. THANKS!
Thank you D-Ray. I am a disabled person. I lost my right arm in a train accident and thought I would never ride again. The Honda three wheeler has got me back riding again. Your Videos have helped me keep it running perfect. I am now rebuilding an XL 250 with a 200 CC ATC motor. I cant clutch shift anymore so that was my solution. Its been a bugger to get it to set right but I will get er' going... Again. Thumb Up on the Videos.
My Uncle Joe use to let me ride his 3 wheelers. He was always so freakin cool. He was a cool man. He definitely knew kow to tune these old Hondas. He was so good at it. Thank you for this.
A hearty thanx for taking the time to CLEARLY explain the mechanics of these things. We really appreciate it and you're the only one who does it so well. I'm 69 and have worked on my own equipment all my life, but am not a mechanic and these ATCs are different! Thanks again.
D-Ray, you just helped me so much. I have an 83' ATC 185S and have had a very difficult time finding a carb rebuild kit for it. I always felt that the carb it had wasn't original. Watching this video, and checking the model number on the 200S carb I realized that my 185 has a 200S carb on it. Thank you so, so much for making, and sharing these videos for us viewers.
It's awesome when folks take the time to make videos like this. I learned quite a bit, and will use this as a good starting point for learning more about my Big Red. Thanks!
thank you for this helpful video. I just rebuilt the carb on my 85 200X and this was the only video I could find that actually helped me adjust it properly. now she is running like a champ!
You are an absolute legend sir! Just started up my 1984 200s that had been laying up for over 12 years. I'm going to adjust idle speed in the morning. Thanks man!
Hey guy.Thank you much for this carb video. It helped me alot. Before i watched this video i took my carb apart to clean it up and when putting it back together i didnt get the needle exactly right so when i started it it roared real loud and hard and scared the crap out of me.so i shut it down and watched your video and took it apart and put it back together and presto runs like a champ.so i thank you again
Hey Great video. I just picked up a second ATC this afternoon and it needs lots of work. Lots of rust in the tank and cleaning the carb is a must. I really appreciate the video as I can go into it with confidence now. Carl
Just got a 82 honda 200cc 3 wheeler. Wanted to say thank you for the videos , because of them i was able to get the carb clean and get it running thanks buddy
Working in the shop and was having' an idle problem. This fixed me up in minutes. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Hard to find stuff on older models like this. A+
Great videos D-Ray I have a Honda 85 200M and was having a little fuel leaking like a drip om the bottom adjustment screw wasn't sure where it was coming from so I took my carb off and disassembled it and noticed a little bit of dirt in bottom bowl so I cleaned everything with carb cleaner and then blew it out dry and put it back together and back on and it fired right up and no leaks !! Thanks again to taking time for us 3wheeler guys :)
Thank you! I wish I found this video before I got it all back together. When spraying out the holes with compressed air, the small oring came out from the idol lean/rich adjustment and I don't have a manual (friend's bike) so I put it back in the bottom of the float cone chamber. Ran but didn't want to run with choke off. Going to put it in the right place now! Great video, very useful!
Restarted our 2 1986 Honda Fat Cats and after cleaning them without removing the jets we had the same trouble as you mentioned in part2. The Low idle jet was gunked up as you predicted (Chevron vintage 1992). Once installed it ran for my 14 year old as well as it did when my Dad bought it for me. Thanks
Thanks man. The slide on my carb really didn't like that nib on the side when the groove was lined up with it, so I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. Your vid helped me figure it out. Appreciate it.
thanks d-ray , i installed my carb but messed up on the throttle part , didnt line up the hole like you mentioned in the video, the atc wanted to take off on me and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it until i watched this. gonna fix it tomorrow after work. thanks again!
Thanks D. Super helpful. Just picked up a 83' 200e atc barn find. Good compression. Perfect seat. It's all there. No extra charge for the ten year old gas. Muffler/exhaust options or ideas. This one is shot... and ugly. Thanks G.
Appreciate the video of the carb cleaning on the Honda ATC200s. I have a 2000 model Recon and the carb is almost identical. Very helpful video thank you
Hey--thanks for your videos, D-Ray! you gave me info. I needed--I purchased and installed a hew carb (from e-bay) and it cranked, ran about 30-45 seconds, and then goes dead. I'm gonna try adjusting it since I watched this.
thanx this will help me .I have a restored gasvtank which has rusted again and I believe the rust hd made its way to the carb . not starting otherwise it has been fully restored
It may just need to be adjusted, just make sure the slide is in correctly, with the narrow slot in the slide aligned with the guide pin in the carb, and be sure you have some free play in the throttle cable. Thanks for watchin'!
My quad is a automatic and i had it in gear and it cranked wide open ran me into a lawn mower.i seen this and watched and worked on it and .you fixed it
thanks very much,i did get it running better, but it is leaking gas from the overflow dont know why but i am going to rebuild it anyway..thanks very much for the info and the video.have a great day d-ray
Do check those things that your local guy suggested, also check the main air intake under the fuel tank just behind the steering head and the carb vent hose for obstructions. If all this checks out, most likely the meetering needle on the carb slide and the metering jet is worn, causing the carb to run rich, especially at low speed.
Great video, i recently got one of those ebay carbs and it seems to idle fine but the low speed mixture screw doesn't seem to do affect the idle at all (i set the throttle stop/idle adjust as you showed, worked great) may have to clean the original and reinstall, would be nice to get the new carb to pick up without having to ease into the gas.
This is excellent thanks a lot! My dad had a old Yamaha ATC200 that I am going to try and fix up. It is almost a new as those hondas that you had there. Hopefully everything is pretty similar.
FirstI want to say THANK YOU for your videos very well done for the person that has enough knowledge to get himself in trouble!! That’s me lol great job! I have a 1984 200s and after adjusting the carb I still have a little backfire when letting off the throttle it is much better but still has a small backfire any suggestions
I have always had trouble getting a good idle on my 200E. Showing how to adjust the idle mixture has it now purring like a kitten. So very helpful, thanks?
While you were adjusting the carb, I noticed it looked like the choke was on 1/2 choke. Maybe. That is the only way the 1984 ATC 200 S will run and idle, that I'm working on. Any idea's.??
D Ray Thanks for the Videos . Good to see someone out there willing to help out his fellow man. I just recently was given a Big Red 200ES in decent shape , but nothing like those in your vids. I shot some starter fluid in the spark plug and she cranks and runs, Definitley need to check the carb out when I switch the gas on it just continuously drips out of the carb. Think its the Float getting Stuck? do I need a gasket? Thanks again for the vids and keep em comming !!!
on a 1984 honda 200s , the 6-8" hose that plugs in just above the throttle lever... Where does it connect too? Watched your vid on rebuilding etc. It was just as cost effective for me to buy a new one with a filter for a few dollars more. Connected everything back together and I had that one hose left. But like the one at the bottom of the bowl, I don't remember it being connected to anything. I can send a pic if ya need
Hopefully you see this sir. Rebuilt carb on my 82 200e with the kit you recommended but when I turned the gas on it was leaking from both breathers. Did something come loose with the float? I know I assembled it perfectly. Thank you
Hi D-Ray, I have a BigRed 200s and idles fine however when I put it in 1st gear and give it gas it wants to stall. Also, if I happen to get it in gear and moving the second I let go of the throttle she shuts off. Any idea? Excellent content you post and thanks in advance!!!
sounds like something has snagged the throttle cable, check for free play at the throttle lever, if needed, you can adjust the cable at the carb slide cap.
I'm assuming you need to make the adjustments with no choke and the bike warmed up correct??? I just got myself a 1984 honda 200s, plastics are a bit cracked but the engine is in great shape! It used to be a farmers trike.
I have an 84 200 ES Big Red. It finally decided it didn't want to start without a fight. Tried putting fresh gas and Seafoam to clean it out - no luck. I've seen these new Chinese carbs - what do you think? Apparently I can't buy the OEM carbs anymore...
12 years on, and this video is still good! Thanks D-Ray!
I wish I would have found this 3 hours of searching ago. You explained the low speed idle screw with such simplicity and we saw and heard it. ThankYou for these professional videos. Good Lord , finally.
I second T.C.'s frustration with finding a good video like this for the very same problem.
Yeah… I feel dumb now 🫥
My 1985 250SX started flooding ourt today while riding it. These vids are very informative and being I haven't played with a carb in about 25 yrs, this has given me some tips and brought back some memories. I'm more confident now about tackling my carb. THANKS!

Your explanation of the mixture adjustment was the only one of the 300 videos I have watch that SIMPLY SAID IT. It's so simple, THANK YOU!
My Uncle Joe use to let me ride his 3 wheelers. He was always so freakin cool. He was a cool man. He definitely knew kow to tune these old Hondas. He was so good at it. Thank you for this.

Yes 10 years later and this has helped, thank you

thank you for this helpful video. I just rebuilt the carb on my 85 200X and this was the only video I could find that actually helped me adjust it properly. now she is running like a champ!
just got my first ATC 200 this past weekend non-running. With your videos I was able to get it running and should be able to ride it this weekend
You have no idea how much your videos has helped us out on our 3 wheelers. Thank you so much.
One of the best carb service videos -- I think you've answered all my questions about adjusting this! Great work.
You are an absolute legend sir! Just started up my 1984 200s that had been laying up for over 12 years. I'm going to adjust idle speed in the morning. Thanks man!

That ATC is in great condition. Thanks for the video, I'll definitely point people to this that have carb issues.
Hey Great video. I just picked up a second ATC this afternoon and it needs lots of work. Lots of rust in the tank and cleaning the carb is a must. I really appreciate the video as I can go into it with confidence now.
Carl
Love these old Honda's, had an 84 trx 200 sitting for 12 years, carb cleaning and carb kit and she runs as good as new. Keep up the great videos D-Ray
Thanks for the two videos detailing how to clean the carb, it helped me D-Ray, Thanks.
Thanks a million
Just got a 82 honda 200cc 3 wheeler. Wanted to say thank you for the videos , because of them i was able to get the carb clean and get it running thanks buddy
Great video and simple explanation. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this series of videos on the carb for the old Honda's!
Working in the shop and was having' an idle problem. This fixed me up in minutes. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! Hard to find stuff on older models like this. A+

I learned something. I never knew the little trick about lining the grove up with the notch on the carb body. Thanks
Thanks
Very helpful. Just getting n 83 200E up and running again. Your videos are fantastic! Keep em' coming!
Thanks man. The slide on my carb really didn't like that nib on the side when the groove was lined up with it, so I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. Your vid helped me figure it out. Appreciate it.
I have a 200M that is having the same carb problem... you make this look easy!
Thanks
thanks d-ray , i installed my carb but messed up on the throttle part , didnt line up the hole like you mentioned in the video, the atc wanted to take off on me and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it until i watched this. gonna fix it tomorrow after work. thanks again!

Thanks D. Super helpful. Just picked up a 83' 200e atc barn find. Good compression. Perfect seat. It's all there. No extra charge for the ten year old gas. Muffler/exhaust options or ideas. This one is shot... and ugly. Thanks G.

It may just need to be adjusted, just make sure the slide is in correctly, with the narrow slot in the slide aligned with the guide pin in the carb, and be sure you have some free play in the throttle cable. Thanks for watchin'!
This video was very informative for me. Plus, the background music is great!

Thank you feller I've learned a lot. I didn't diddly but little by little thanks
Nice video. Simple. Easy. Thanks!
Thanks a bunch, You just helped me out, Have a good 4th of July
Do check those things that your local guy suggested, also check the main air intake under the fuel tank just behind the steering head and the carb vent hose for obstructions. If all this checks out, most likely the meetering needle on the carb slide and the metering jet is worn, causing the carb to run rich, especially at low speed.
These videos are awesome and so well done , very helpful , thank you. Great job on them
All of the videos I've watched are very helpful thanks alot!!

Awesome videos, they are extremely helpful. Keep em coming.
Just what I needed
I have always had trouble getting a good idle on my 200E. Showing how to adjust the idle mixture has it now purring like a kitten. So very helpful, thanks?
thank you for this! I will be on your channel quite a bit lol

Very helpful, thank you!
This helped me a lot! Thanks
thanks man....i have a 200m and it was burping alittle i pulled in the idle air mix screw like were urs is and it stopped burping your the man
think I figured it out just lays flat inside on top of large throttle needle ,all so had to squeeze it a bit, large spring goes on top
While you were adjusting the carb, I noticed it looked like the choke was on 1/2 choke. Maybe. That is the only way the 1984 ATC 200 S will run and idle, that I'm working on. Any idea's.??
pro vids ... luv it

Does this model have just 1 mix adjustment? Or is there a idle circuit and throttle cirvuit? Thanks gerat imformative video.
It had been sitting up in my dads shed since about Aug of 96 when I had joined the service. heh
Howdy, replaced my carb, runs great at idle, but when shifting and gaining speed, it luggs, and dies, any ideas? Thanks for your Video's by the way.
@rnh4547 Very little Ronnie, Had a small patch in th' lower corner, everything inside was pretty clean. not bad for a 27 year old atv!
Hey thanks so much! this video has helped me so much.
I'm assuming you need to make the adjustments with no choke and the bike warmed up correct??? I just got myself a 1984 honda 200s, plastics are a bit cracked but the engine is in great shape! It used to be a farmers trike.
Is there a o ring on the idle speed screw or throttle cable caz I just bought a carb rebuild kit and it's getting air from somewhere it shouldn't?
I have an 84 200 ES Big Red. It finally decided it didn't want to start without a fight. Tried putting fresh gas and Seafoam to clean it out - no luck. I've seen these new Chinese carbs - what do you think? Apparently I can't buy the OEM carbs anymore...
What about adjusting the choke when it's feels like it's spring loaded and won't stay open.
