    Great video. Thanks for the update and history. I remember Hudson was the largest department store in the world. Mind boggling.

    Yeah they scaled it back to 685 feet 49 stories 1-25 is the new hotel and 26-49 will be Apartments and Condo's Would be cool to have one of the Apartments or Condo's but unfortunately both are out of my price range.

    I get the gentrification to start, because the city needs to increase the tax base as fast as possible so that they can lower the rate and spur more growth. But when does the affordable, 3-4 story stuff get built and where?

      I have a video coming out Sunday with mention of atleast one them in it. It’s just hard with construction cost, they have to be heavily government subsidies for it to make any financial sense.

    This was built on spec. Gilbert sure wouldn't have built it if he knew what was coming - covid leading to work from home, high interest rates, construction shortages, Rocket losing money last quarter and laying off 7,500, etc.

      You may not be wrong, but I don’t foresee it been that long of a set back for them.

    This building would've been done 3 years ago if this was Chicago

      Your probably right honestly, but Chicagos downtown is a lot more mature than Detroits

    I've been working on the Hudson since May of 2022, word on the street is that GM threatened to pull out of Detroit if the city approved the Hudson to be taller than the Ren Cen. Personally I think it probably came down to money, but it's funny to think that GM would be petty like that. Who knows

      @EdButlerDetroit  Рік тому +1

      Wow John! Thanks for the insight, you know I wouldn’t doubt it. These small things mean a lot to these big companies! Haha

      @@EdButlerDetroit That is really petty, but hey it is what it is. Thanks for sharing that.

      It was the money more than likely as the building is way over the completion deadline and budget. Also don’t forget that after the Hudson’s was demolished an underground parking structure with structural steel columns was built for a future high rise. This new structure however was not strong enough for the original bedrock planned skyscraper so it was also demolished and started over. When the current construction site began, huge unforeseen problems in the underground caused major delays and costs. I remember walking to the job site when we worked on the underground parking garage and walking to the job site today. It’s amazing how the downtown has changed for the better since then. It went from vacant store fronts to a bustling downtown. Detroit is back we just have to let the rest of the world know. Thanks for your video
