  • This time at the Quick Speed Shop I'm adding a master battery disconnect to my C10 project truck. This switch will prevent vehicle theft and fire threat by interrupting the negative side of the battery killing all electrical power to the truck when turned off. Its an easy install with some new battery cables. After the switch is installed I do a walk around on the truck showing what parts need to be ordered for the restoration.

Sounds like your vision and plan is a good way to start turning the '72 truck into a clone of the awesome '72 step side street machine from years ago. Safety FIRST!!

I think its going to turn out good. Once I get the metal work done the truck will really start to come together

I hope I don't get anywhere near $15k because I can't afford that! I don't make the big bucks like the other channels!

I would say: may the money be with you :-). Why dont you sell some stuff or cars to get some money back in the wallet before spending in the C10? On my Econoline, I am up to 17000euros and still no body paint neither frame blasted and painted. Currently doing the interior, the whole upholestery and stuff... wow lot of money even doing everything on my own! I did sell my Cadillac CTS to not going bankrupted :D

I don't like to sell things because I get attached to things. I sold some cars back in 2006 and still regret it today. I might sell a couple things I'll not get to for some space, but I don't really want to part with any cars. Some of my cars I've had for 30 years.

Good ‘i-dee-er’ on the battery switch, why didn’t i think of that…. I’ve taken a battery cable off on my 50 F1 hot rod project truck every time I leave it in the shop, just like you, I don’t trust it yet. One reason I question it is every time it sets for a while (days) when I reconnect the cable it sparks with everything off. But it only sparks once , reconnect it no spark. I don’t show any current draw on my meter. I’m running a MSD box and it has 2 unstitched wires, a positive and negative to the battery, I’m thinking it might have some kind of initial current draw. Is that a MSD thing……I don’t know.
Can’t wait to see more on the C 10. A buddy just restored his 69 GMC he bought new in 69. It had set in the weeds for 17 years and in Washington where it rains about 11 months out of the year that ain’t good. He found a running parts truck for a bed (his had actually rusted down around the frame and was on the ground) that came with an extra cab and 2 spare doors for $2600. He had never done anything like this before but at 76 he decided to give it a try. His son in law is a truck driver but should be a fabricator helped with the welding and body panels , he did all the body work himself and I shot the paint. From about 5 feet it looks brand new. With everything including complete engine (250-6) and transmission rebuild and numerous new panels he figures he is over $20k. The one thing he left untouched was the steering wheel because of the hands that held it and are no longer here. He will be 80 in a couple months and he says no amount of money could buy that truck.
Remember, “if you’re gonna make it nice, might as well make it right”. 👍

That's a cool story. I'm going for clean driver with this truck. It will look good going down the road, but won't be perfect so I can still use it for errands and also as a work truck. I think it will be the last full paint job I do for a while. Next couple of buildings are going to be full patina, is what it is builds.

If that truck is going to come all apart, wouldn't it be in your best interest to move to the pole barn with more room? The single car garage seems a little cramped.
