Still no sign of a real combat overhaul sadly but they have now launched the action and UI overhaul which is a step in the right direction though a little underwelming.
Thank you for a good video! Must be one of the most fair summary ive seen in a long time. i lost so many hours in wurm online. something about the deed system just made you take pride in your base and really give building it your all. i miss it sometimes. but then i think about all the time wasted when i could have been doing something real, and i cant bring myself back to it.
I've got to say that personally, playing probably over 15-25 sandbox games over the years, some less popular, some more popular, that wurm by a longshot has been the best I've played. Maybe it's just my preference. But it's miles better imo than atlas, ark, life is feudal, all the ones I've played in terms of it being a sandbox game. I've played the game on and off for 10+ years. key binds. not that hard as there is a UI in the settings to do most of them. that really is not a con anymore., it was . but not for years now. other then that awesome video and true. wurm has issues, and so do 99% of other mmo games. but ya i'd say a slower relaxed paced game to play for years is what our wurm game is. vs the main stream mmo's that can level cap 1-3 months and get bored of. wurm many of us take breaks from but come back for 100's of hours per year because we love our grind and sandbox. 14 yrs playing and over 14,000 hours in game now ,it's still has a good future for us. but it's not for everyone thats for sure. hope to see more vids like this thanks man.
Keybinds are still a real PIA, especially for new players. I have been thinking about going into this game but I am more concerned that if the game will last much longer because of it being an old game and the change of devs
Making the best game ever takes a while to make, yet alone perfect...some game companies take the 20 years of greatness they mightve created if they didnt change all the time, and shit down your neck by destroying itself, making itself easier, removing rewarding quests lines and actual work people put in and resetting them so its "fair"...etc.. Wurm is what it is and unfortunately we have a new generation of gamers who dont appreciate that kind of a game, and thats why we get 50 shades of Alphas and Betas on steam that fucking suck to put it bluntly, because even the game companies dont know what people want anymore, and set in place gambling tactics and psychological systems to keep you coming back. FOMO is a huge selling point, and if companies can make you feel obligated to pay, ontop of feeling obligated to play, because you pay, and BECAUSE you fear not playing with your friends on their level, then you're hooked like a fentanyl addict if you care to be social at all. Otherwise you do what 99% of WoW does, circle stormwind and jump around on a mount until you get bored of waiting in queue(oh wait, they're gonna add AI dungeons now to specifically target THIS issue too 😂) like c'mon just make a good game...the Trilogy shit is so unappetizing knowing its the same blizzard. Wurm online is my new home of MMORPGs. 😐
It all depends on the type of gamer you are. I constantly see comments about this being a grindy game, you have to enjoy the grind, you get no where if you don't grind. I completely disagree. I have been playing for only 4 years now but I play almost every day and still love it, and I have NEVER grinded ever! I let my skill come naturally. I have some decent skills now too, yeah it took me way longer than others but what is the rush? I could make everything I needed at 50ish skill and now my skills are 70-90. So no you don't have to grind to enjoy the game, but if you don't know how to entertain yourself and you need a game to tell you what to do then this is definitely not the game for you. This game can be very boring at times I agree, gathering the resources you need to build or make the things you want can be tedious. But I have never felt so rewarded in a game once I have finished doing the thing I set out to do. Also the community is probably one of the nicest most helpful ones out there. Sure we have some "trolls", there are always some bad apples in every bunch but the majority of the people I have met have been amazing. So yes, this game is still worth playing to me.
Agree on most your points for sure. Though I think the gap between your thoughts on "grinding" is that in my experience, a grind usually any repetitive gameplay loop. This is why so many people say Wurm is a grindy game - even myself. Because most loops are repetitive, like making/improving gear, increasing your skills or gathering resources. Whereas it sounds as though you define "grinding" as the act of just increasing skill. So I think there's just a disconnect on how we're using that word. Thank you though for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts. Happy Wurming!!
@@BloodyDrongo Yeah I guess to me what you consider grinding I consider just playing the game lol. To me grinding is doing something over and over again just for skill gain. It's important to see the difference from playing wurm for the first time to how it is to play the game like a high leveled character several years later. 1 : It's quite time consuming to do anything, even more as a newcomer. It's slow and confusing to know what to do when you start. 2 : It's basically a game about grinding, if you dont click and repeat untill you have earned enough skill then your % to do something will be really low. 3 : Important things like a deed will cost you more money, if you dont use a settlement your buildings will degrade way faster and can be "looted" faster by other players. 4 : Depending on your server you will basically say yes to fight againt other players or not and yes to loose everything you have on you. 5 : To be really good in this game you will need to grind, play a lots of hours every day and keep on grinding. Fun? I'd say its rather an addiction. My kids have seen this game ( 11) and honestly they didn't like it. So personally I doubt the player base will increase how the game is today. No problem. I know you enjoy and love the game, but honestly it's a timesink and have lately been showing clear signs that it's also putting more "pay to win" inside the game that is used more and more ( and probably more on the pvp side ).@Drongo
Agree with Drongo, a very reasonable list of expectations. Nice hope that answers your question as to whether Wurm is worth playing! I had a chuckle when you left your comment the other day asking that specific thing hahaha
I feel like it's unrealistic to expect indefinate content and updates for a game that's a one off puchase. Especially for a small niche indie game like Wurm Unlimited. Luckily the modding community still seems active and doing fairly well!
@@sirnat97 It's not though, it's well documented that after about 1yr of development WU and WO code had to be diverged and there is significant differences between the two.
That is true, it's more of a joke than an tutorial to be fair. For new players setting keybinds to interact with the game world is definitely still a problem though even with the "new" system.
It would be interesting to me in 2012, but being the picky gamer I am today, it just looks boring. I would've given it a try if the combat was as exciting as hack-and-slash games
Source? I'd not heard that before. But no Unlimited does not have more players, though both games have similar player counts through Steam only the majority of WO players use the native client. Meaning WO has 2-3 times the player count on avg than Unlimited does.
@@BloodyDrongo steam numbers show 142 wurm Online, 138 wurm unlimited , if you check Wurm forums they have banned many people for keep asking as they were offered unreal 5 but did not want to learn the new code
If you watch the video I literally explain how the game is capped by skill and a breif overview of what you don't have access too as a free player and even talk about how much play time a free player can expect before they hit that skill cap?????
3:32 "Despite being a comparatively small one, wurm online is still extremely active" 1 player being on 24/7 doesn't make it extremely active lol. For something to be extremely active, it needs to have a decent amount of players, which it does not. Steam alone it has an average of 122 players last 30 days, that is basically nothing. And this is even more painful when they decide to have so many fucking servers... Just like WoW, ruining the "MMO" aspect by having way too many servers and channels so you never actually see anyone, making it feel like an MORPG instead of MMORPG. Wurm Unlimited is also way better than Online, but then they decided to ditch Unlimited...
Clearly we have different defiiinations of what would make a community "active". But I'll explain why I think it's totally fair to use the wording I did. Only 30% of players use the Steam client so you can't use the Steam charts to evaluate average player numbers. Usually there's 300-500 total accounts logged in at any one time. Which even with some people multi-clienting constitues a small population for an MMO, esspecially compared to other older MMO's from Wurm's era. In terms of activity I look at the forums, official discord channels and in-game player lead and organised events. Since Wurm's community actively partipates a lot with all of these I think it's fair to say the population is small but active.
@@BloodyDrongo Yes, you can use steam charts to evaluate the amount of players. Even you said yourself that 30% use steam, so just increase the number 3x and you got your value. Why can you evaluate the amount of players but I can't? Kind of shooting yourself in the foot there. Either way, 300-500 players is not "active" in any way. Hop on the game and you'll hardly ever see anyone and even if you join one of the more popular towns, you'll just see the same 5 people or so. The 300-500 players might be active, but Wurm as a game is not active, you need to have a lot more players for that. Especially when quite a bit of those 300-500 use multi clients, to boost the number up. Also even compared to other old MMOs, you're still wrong. Look at Ultima Online, significantly older than Wurm, as it's made in 1997, whereas Wurm is 2006. But Ultima Online has about 3k players. Runescape from from 2001 has 40k. WoW from 2004 has 223k. Maplestory from 2003 has 64k players. Tibia from 1997 has 10k players. Do I need to go on? lol. Sorry, but Wurm is not active. It should honestly be labeled MORPG, rather than MMORPG. It's not massive, never really was. Which don't get me wrong, is a damn shame, as the game is amazing, at least for Unlimited version that is.
This is what Wurm needs more of - a factual, balanced look at where the game has been, where it is at, and where it may be going.
Thanks, appreciate that!
Honestly, I think it is, I've been around the game as long as you have and you're right, it is SO much more respectful of our time than it used to be.
It's a lot more respectful of our time than it used to be. The game used to be much more tedious, had no options for storage that prevented decay, everything took longer, there were no QoL options to streamline crafting etc. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it is miles better than it used to be.
@@VulcansForge yep, Alot more skills can be grinded faster because they got options to do improving or new things to make
I second that emotion.
@VulcansForge Well said. I can remember when criticizing "dirty GM'ing" or the game in any way would bring you an instant life time ban.
Yup and don't forget that we didn't used to have things like Bulk Storage bins, only small carts and had Skill decay etc.

I used to get excited at every little tweak and system rebuild that came our way, but I now don't really hold out any hope that the game will see the kind of modernization needed to be relevant. That's not how I set my key bindings. They changed that years ago 🙂
That is true, it's more of a joke than an tutorial to be fair. For new players setting keybinds to interact with the game world is definitely still a problem though even with the "new" system.
It would be interesting to me in 2012, but being the picky gamer I am today, it just looks boring. I would've given it a try if the combat was as exciting as hack-and-slash games
if skyrim had official coop it be best until meteor showers earth
Yeah sadly MP mods like Skyrim together while fun are still insanely buggy.
Greetings from Silakka, still think of u Fosters drinking Emu
Greetings!
They were offered to bring it to Unreal 5 and they declined. There are more players on Unlimited
Very informative :)
Thanks, glad you thought so Mel!
Best sandbox MMO out there.
Agree!
Yup... my wife tried others, and gave up. We've been in Wurm for 12 years now. Originally Runescape refugees. We love it.
@@WebleyVickers 4 years for me now
Now, brazilians are filling up the servers.
Yeah it's very cool to see actually!
Not free to play. Free to try, maybe? Free to play is skill capped. Need to get premium and pay per month to actually really play the game
If you watch the video I literally explain how the game is capped by skill and a breif overview of what you don't have access too as a free player and even talk about how much play time a free player can expect before they hit that skill cap?????
This game is beautifull
Agree!
so its minecraft?
It does have a lot of similatiries to Minecraft buit is slower paced, has a worse UI + combat, but has perpectual servers and is an MMO.
3:32 "Despite being a comparatively small one, wurm online is still extremely active"
1 player being on 24/7 doesn't make it extremely active lol.
I'm spearfishing :D
Good luck lmaoooo
I'm getting quiet good at it :)
No
Short and to the point. I like it
If your sales pitch is 12 minutes , the answer is probably no , not worth it to start playing .
