I personally would emphasize camping to most new players. Especially for backstabber since they cant really farm overland unless they leave the mount at home. But also they get to explore the overworld and mark hundreds of spots to hike(portal) to. Just for reference to new players, you can use a runebook loaded with scrolls at 0 magery, but they dont tell you it's going to cost 70k gold to get a blessed one. Camping book is free and camping is easy to max. And camping will let you carry far more gold/items. Gold weighs a lot on outlands.
I went back to grinding some gold with my bleed sword dexxer. Got my blood aspect to rank 10 & switched from 100 arms lore to 100 focus. I like the accuracy & faster swing speed with 2handers especially. What?! 4k wooo! Also I'm beginning to like those red encounters given they are alone and not rolling with a group. Almost killed a few reds yesterday, one was 1 hit away from death and his buddy ganged me lol. And one mage gave up after he jumped me when I'd just cleared a lizardmen camp with a chest. Got it in the end haha
Just finally got blood on my swordsman. Glad to hear it’s good. Mind to drop your template? I’m using arms lore and focus, so I’m wondering what all you got.

I used one of your necro templates over a year ago and I'm coming back and will try a warrior. You're so fucking helpful when you aren't stealing from people :P . JK, thanks for all of the info. Makes it much easier as I really forgot everything about Outlands
Is Peaceadin still a viable template? I recently started playing on Outlands and just went with that build because according to the wiki it's highly recommended for new players (at least was 2 years ago).😛
Thank you for the content i started playing UO this weekend, any chance we get a follow up to the warrior template? more advanced after shelter island and player progression?
Being a newplayer in outlands sucks. As a dexxer you save up like 1k to 5k doing a low level area then invisible reds ambush you when you are at half health. At least most of them leave your noob gear unless its low level enchanted. Ive found using chivalry portal to dungeons helps because there are HORDES of friendly players and is actually a bit safer than world nooby zones that get camped by invisible PKs. How hard is it to get blessed fullset and blessed mount in outlands?
Ethereal mounts (blessed mounts) can be gotten from achievement points or society points and can (maybe iirc) be bought with prevaila coin. Codex's, rune books, spell books, clothing and a couple of other things can be blessed but not armour or weapons. I highly recommend going to the weekly 'santuary dungeon.' PKing and stealing are disabled in these dungeons and while the loot drops are reduced because of this, they are still good and are perfect for new players trying to get established. It only takes one harvest core drop to make over 100k gold and yes, they do drop along with every other core. Aside from that I recommend to use tracking for your own personal PK radar as well as traveling with a friend, or better yet, a few guild members. It's hard to be a new player in outlands so don't go at it alone, join a guild! Most of them are eager to supply new players with early game gear, resources, and knowledge! You'll earn some good loot and (hopefully) make some good friends! I should also mention that people who PK in over world noobie areas are really only trying to raise their murder count. If you want to get back at them, don't report them for murder lol
Sanctuary dungeon is a weekly dungeon bonus that rotates and reds/thieves cant kill/steal from you there. I'd suggest farming there until you get a leg up. There arent blessed gear / items in this game. You can get a mount bonded by getting it to level 1. Just have it help kill monsters with you in shelter dungeon for about 10 minutes and it should hit level 1. Careful not to let it die. Otherwise society points/achievements which will take a bit longer as a new player.
I've stumbled across this and I am curious. Never played UO. I'm usually a solo player, but I enjoy commerce. Usually I end up into a tankier melee focused type of character (like a paladin) in games as a solo. I like self sufficiency to a degree without needing to have other people around, but I do like more supportive roles for group play. I'm looking through these templates to get a better understanding but will take any further advice through here as well.
Holy paladins are good solo and great in a group. Holy cores (aspect progression system) are cheap enough that you can afford them as a new player. Dexxers, (pretty much any melee class that doesn't use magic) like a holy paladin, are a great way to learn the game. Because your not managing pets, summons, mana, and juggling spells, you can focus on learning the basics better i.e, attack patterns, dodging, kiting etc... Commerce is huge. From reagents to real estate, you can sell or buy just about anything in the game, actually everything. It's common for people to create characters strictly for harvesting and selling crafting materials. You can play the game solo but I would still recommend joining a guild. Even if your not interested in doing group stuff now, you will be later and the amount of loot/experience you gain in a group can be massive. Most every guild will also supply you with things you need for a first character, codex's tomes, access to important QoL items like storage shelf, magic recycler, repair benches and the like. Forewarning, it will take a lot of time and gold to become 'self sufficient' in outlands but the basics to do it would be create crafter characters. 2 separate characters should cover all the crafting skills, or 1character if you buy an echo. It will not be easy and it will not be quick but you will be at maximum self sufficiency should you do it. Last tip is don't be a stranger to the new player channel in discord. UO outlands has a long and steep learning curve that can easily dissuade someone from not playing but there is great joy in overcoming the adversity. The only true MMO sandbox out there is UO and Outlands is the number 1 place to be on it!
You would have to go out of your way to make an objectively bad build in outlands because everything is viable. From beggar pirates to sneaky scavengers, every build has a place here.
Pwnstars has recently put out a tribard build specifically for the wild lands expansion. He doesn't go in to great detail on the codex but he covers the most important changes to it in that video. The most important thing to note on the bard codex changes imo is that 'ensemble' now only costs 6 points to max instead of 9, and 'self taught' allows us to tribard without music. There's still a case to be made for taking a couple bard skill with music because you can get stronger damage values by having those 6 extra bard points you would have spent on 'self taught', to go in other categories.
I have the tri bard char. It's great.. my question was. Would there be any different to the macer template other then switching macefighting to archery
The only problem I see now days with UO is that its a game that sometimes you have like 30 minutes 1h to play during the day after work.. tired.. just want to relax.. have a good time, but you keep being chased by pks .. thiefs.. and people like that .. that is part of the game and that is what makes also uo being uo.. but not always its fun.. now days I am opting for games I can relax after work and not stress and lose stuff .. sadly because UO will be always into my heart.
I would recommend farming the weekly 'sanctuary dungeon.' PKing and stealing from players is disabled in sanctuary dungeons. You do get reduced gold and loot drops but you still get them and your safe from other players. Aside from that, run tracking for your own personal PK radar. With tracking you will never get caught with your pants down and will have more than enough time to make your way out before they get to you. There are other servers out there that have restricted pvp only to certain places or events, if hanging out and doing PvM is your jam I suggest checking them out and when you're ready to get back at that 'real sandbox experience,' we will be here for ya in the Outlands! Watching.... waiting... lurking in the shadows *insert diabolical laughter*

Just get a Shepard crook and use the skill herding. You can make a macro to spam it every 2-3 seconds while your away. Once it’s up though you just have a crook in your bag and double click to activate.
Started playing yesterday, looked at the templates on the wiki and read up on all the skills and I found it really weird none of the suggested templates had focus on it since it looked super good, better than arms lore. Did they change how it works recently or something?
Focus was just added to the game recently. In my opinion, the main difference is that you need armos lore at 80 to use the [disarm ability whereas focus, even at 20-40 skill points, still gives good value on its stats. (Mainly an increased swing speed cap and mana refund chance cap).
Focus been out just a couple week w wildlands expansion. Focus is really nice cause accuracy is such a pain starting out. By giving more accuracy, swing speed, and swing speed cap (For dexxers) and Mana refund, Mana refund cap, spell charged chance (for mages).. Focus becomes a no-brainer for most pvm templates.
Definitely keep Focus - and I'll hopefully get to templates on teh wiki eventually, we are still trying to get all the content updates done on it, and haven't really had time to try a pile of templates to update that part of it. that said I'll add a note on there about the expansion - and that it's all changed.
So I’m really thinking about getting into this game when I have a little more time. So many good and cool systems that give the player the freedom to play the way they want and I love that. However, Iv play my fair share of MMOs and I know how toxic players can be. And I feel like this game would allow so many people to just be full blown killer player aids. And idk if I’m about that life. 😅
Isn't Lumberjacking easier compared to mining? That's atleast my experience. With mining you are forced to walk along mountains and you either have to look for forges or drag along a mule. With lumberjacking you can move more freely and because wood is lighter on the server you can harvest more before you have to go back to the bank/or look for a forge.
By virtue of having more trees on outlands than mining spots I would say yes, it is easier. The difference of return on mining vs lumberjacks fluctuates at around 10 - 15k gold so your not losing out on much by lumbering over mining.
Any one of these templates works. It really comes down to playstyle preference. In terms of most efficient/easiest the Necromancer is going to be your best leg up outside of harvesting. Just make sure your using your free-casts to kill monsters in shelter so you have some gold to buy reagents/scrolls. Otherwise it can be a tricky start
