    I've only been playing for a few months, but I've developed a real liking for landscaping and building so anything in that area will be most interesting for me. The Portals to travel about is slightly interesting but I feel it should come with a cost to perform so people aren't willy-nilly traveling about because they don't want to invest time in riding/sailing. For me, the actual travel time is an important part of the game. It leads to exploring, finding old deeds and new ones. Seeing what people are building or destroying in their creativity.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it's good to hear the perspective from someone who is newer to the game! I agree, there should be a pretty big cool down or cost for it to make sense tbh

      I think the downside to using portal propably is that cant take horse with you. so if wants to explore other server with portal cant ride on the other server. but for those who might not have as much time to play wurm can finally visit other servers without having to log out there. Personally i always love sailing and camping with tent and bedroll if needs. good option among many ways of travelling.

    Good video, as always.
    Regarding the "profits": if you have part of your staff leaving - either voluntairy or not - and it's to be expected some of them were paid, yes, of course you reduce costs.
    If you add 12-euro chair skins to your game shop, sure you can earn more money as there will always be people who buy those skins. Even if they'd cost 50 euro's for a skin to upgrade a wooden platter into one having some carvings along the edges. Simply because there are people who want to show off everything they can get in this game.
    However, seeing that small increase in profits when you decrease your cost, I'm sceptic about everything regarding the finances. And I've got a feeling I'm not the only one.

      There's certainly aspects of the financials that we're only getting a partial picture of within all this.

    Prefab houses would be nice. Being a house builder that can somehow build a house, with some magical powers put it in a scroll... and sell it to somebody would indeed be interesting

      That's a great area this could evolve into for sure with those movable houses. Even being able to make and then sell things like "blueprints" to a design could be an interesting route for the game to look at.

    So Very Hopeful for Meaningful Improvements in 2024... have been playing since 2012 or so (off and on... like most Wurmians!) and pretty much constantly since Steam Launch in 2020. So Good if you enjoy building, crafting and exploring! Not for Everyone, but well underrated in my opinion. Lets Hope for a Great Future! --- Thanks for the fantastic content!

    When Samool tells game will drasticly look better i belive him xD You all remember when he first showed up and did that water rework it was mouth dropping, he is magician with the client xD

    Something very surprising about picking up Wurm again is the level of texture detail with normal map support.
    Despite being low poly, the potential with the visuals with that combination alone can vastly improve it only depends on the artists vision if they choose to remake the art.
    There are already modern technologies both visual and audio it's only the art itself that could be touched up on with a painters vision; I really am shocked to just look at the textures individually and see such crisp detail that many are already good by themselves and only need to be unified under a single broad vision.
    The potential on visuals has such a high ceiling here, normal mapping is a bit of an old tech now but it is what carried 'next gen' for such a long time and can be stronger utilized here.

      Have you seen the new visuals? What do you make of them compared to the old map support? You sound much more knowledgable than me on this so would be interest to hear what you think.

      @@BloodyDrongo Yes! I had to take many screenshots and appreciate the new tessellation support with the obvious dramatic changes to cobblestone and farm plots. It's a staple in most AAA titles for visual fidelity even if its buried under a generic named 'terrain detail' slider. I still believe most games do not fully utilize the technologies potential despite it being around for a while.
      The updated lighting also is another great improvement with the reflectivity on metallic surfaces now adding another good visual detail.
      I will also stress the point I made before with the aforementioned high resolution textures, normal maps and now tessellation with displacement mapping support added the visuals can soar to great heights with artists permitting.
      Just imagine the great oak trees that have been in the game for so long get updated with cleaner sourced textures or just sculpted and have either normal or displacement mapping with a high resolution texture like many other things have, so when your character approaches them you can see the cracks appear to have depth within the bark just like the cobblestone pathways or snow and dirt.
      Wurm just needs a painter's touch for a unified heightened aesthetic (*most of which the visuals are already great*) or an animator's life for a while to bring the character's to life but I am unsure if they are limited by the platform or engine somehow or they've just never had a dedicated animator working on Wurm Online for long.

    Im so keen to see these new textures, anything that increases the graphical fidelity if wurm im all for. And also this NFi portal

    Hey Drongo I have been watching for about 12 months now since I started playing Wurm again. How are you feeling about how things are being handled this year. It seemed there was a large push at the beginning of the year to get things rolling, and I have seen a lot of new players, but wanted your thoughts on how things are going?

      I have a lot of feelings but I've had to direct time and energy into other things than YT recently but I will be putting some new videos together soon. Overall though, things are *okay* I think, not great but also not as terrible as I perhaps feared they might be 12months ago.

    Ideally I think the portals should only take you to the capital city of each island. I don't think this will take too much away from exploration as you will still need to travel once you get there.

      i wouldnt mind if can connect two portals between two deeds, its just a optional way of travelling after all, i will still sail and ride to explore. Portal wont take away those but allow players with less time to have some exploring that way.

    My favorite part of this game was getting lost in the woods and eaten by wolves. The challenge of traveling was enjoyable for me, and is the main reason I played this game as a traveling trader. Back in the day, they killed my play-style with spirit houses. Now, the need for travel is gone entirely. Super lame.
    People have wasted thousands of hours building highways and tunnels all over the place, only for them to be made useless. People working together to overcome the landscape was always a huge part of Wurm. Until now.
    Honestly kinda sad how this game has failed to reach its full potential. Why is are they dumbing down the sandbox? They can explore ways of making travel less annoying without removing it from the game.
    Here is an idea: Stop selling ingame currency for real world money, and increase the amount of money that players to gain ingame. Add deed payment and membership bonds that players purchase instread and can trade, like in old school runescape. Add trade houses in starter towns where players can post buy and sell offers. Allow players to browse everything available for sale across all servers at these trade houses, so that players are encouraged to buy and sell between them to make money. Add regional resources that can be used to make best-in-class items which are only found on a specific server in the Freedom Isles, so that players have a lot of incentive to trade items made with them. Heck, why not update the game so that every server in the Freedom Isles has its own unique biome with unique flora and fauna, or maybe even split up each server into unique biomes that are found nowhere else. Place unique raid dungeons all over freedom which are each found in only one location. Players will travel to them, and players who live around the dungeon can make money by providing services for visiting players such as beds, food, and raiding supplies. If people want to travel faster, add airships that can go faster than a caravel and fly over land.

    I love this game so much that I get stressed out when things change. Don’t get me wrong I love bug fixes, balancing and updates. But it stresses me out!

      That's fair, it's the constant stuggle with MMO's. Keep things fresh and changing but without getting too far away from what people actually want.

    The game needs a Project Manager to set and ensure time frames for development, like every other professional software development.

      I agree at a surface level, unfortunately Wurm is probably one of the least professionally run MMO's from a staffing standpoint. The VAST majority of staff for the game including developers are volunteer's and the parent company GCG has made it clear profits are their priority so there's zero chance they're willing to make a loss over a couple of years to speed up and streamline development, no matter how much good sense it would make.

    Hi, newish player here, played a few months ago when i loged in with steam - found out way later that i can't login now with a normal client anymore and never can have a alt char. i was told that way later after starting ^^ is it still not possible to switch steam not steam client logins? anyone know? ^^ Dunno, when i found out i did the error in starting with steam instead the "old" client as i was told, i was kinda confused and lost interest..
    Plus, i remember how hard it was at start with little fighting and bad eqipment, i was traveling the new server, aggro'd 1 wolf could not kill it and it just chased me for ever, as i was not faster than it, it never lost aggro. i can understand why new players just prefer something else if you not willing to really really try it.. i still pulled through and played for several weeks and became good in hunting, but i can understand if they say it is just too wonky..
    maybe one day they can sort out so many quality of life things, then i could see more new players maybe..

      Thanks for sharing your experience. You're likely not alone and hopefully the new tutorial server will help reduce issues like the wolf situation you describe.
      The Steam and Regular client mismatch is still a thing unfortunately and I don't know if we'll see a fix for this anytime soon since it's mentioned in this roadmap that popular requests like character management client stuff isn't a priority right now.

      "all good" is a stretch. Some is good. I personally don't think the starter town portals or the auction house fit in, but other people using them won't effect me, so I am neutral. Account management "not a priority" is disappointing, especially as something foreshadowed quite a lot.
      The client work is reason for hope. Graphic re-work probably should be a priority, too.
      Tutorial island is a good idea. Now, let's hope new players get to make an informed choice of home server. Also, if the tutorial server is dramatically different to the "main" servers, that may work against retention.
      PvPers are probably not getting their hopes up.
