The DBS are my personal PC-Speaker end of the search for a good and affordable pair of speakers for listening 8h+ while working from home or gaming or even make some music. Important: place them correct in a triangle with the tweeter in ear-heigh (I flipped mine 180 degree, so that the mid/sub is facing upwards, because my stands are a bit to high :) ).

I think you will need a pre-amp
You need an specific pre-amp for both instrument's, as usual. For the guitar you would need a very good pre-amp (with tubes, although a Digitech is also ok) to make use of monitor speakers connected to the preamp. In the the first case, a keyboard, you are good to go with a decent pre-amp. In both cases I would go with the R1850DB. You may be short with 1280DB/s although it depends on the stance. For listening music, gaming, whatever they are fair superior to 1280DB/s (and I think it's not only subjective perception).
did you adjust the equalizer of the r1280?
The treble is at 100% bass is at 0

Nice comparison! Is it just me, or is the DBS just slightly more "open / clearer" ?
It is clearer
Especially in the guitar scenes, it is much clearer.

according to the manufacturer, the dbs has a lower low frecquency range than the db. Is that noticeable at all?

Sound wise, they are both good but if you can afford the DBs, get it because it is newer and have some interesting features over the DB

1. Does the feature called Soundfield Spatialization make any difference ?
2. And which features are " Interesting " ( as you have mentioned in different replies ) according to you ?
3. Do the slight changes are worth of the extra money it is costing ?
At the end... I am also an Edifier 1280 db owner like you and love it's performance... Thank you... Keep it up...
The soundfield spatializer makes the sound airy, i don't like it.
The only interesting feature that the DBs have over the DB is the Subwoofer output. I never use a subwoofer so it's not important for me.
So if you are not planning on using the Sub out, the R1280DB is an excellent choice

thougth the only difference are the remote ? the s version has the newer one.
DBS also adds Spacializer, Sub-Out and has better lower frequency range
why are you not testing movie? we want to hear the dialogue quality coming out from the speaker
