      @DaisyM 8 років тому +180

      sweetheartpuppy7211 not really, you choose to eat as much as you want, the purpose of the game being there must be to make it easier to clear the table after they are done, the toy is just a cute bonus. Of course, it encourages people to consume more, but that's at your own risk.

    • @punxie89
      @punxie89 8 років тому +62

      Mrs.Pilla ' Those places are too busy and sometimes too small to have wait staff attend the tables, so having customers place their plates that way is a lot easier. But people are sometimes lazy, so incentive is given. The prize being given out is randomized. And usually the plates only have a couple of pieces of a type of sushi, so you're not really ordering that much at all. Here they serve platters of sushi that have 20 pieces at a time, that would equal 10 plates right there.

      +pbeechie That kind of games are actually addictive. In the U.S. some states have instituted "video poker" machines in addition to allowing bars and restaurants to sell traditional lottery tickets. These video poker machines are basically computerized games where players *think* they are playing a game of skill, but it is entirely a product of algorithm and people rarely win. So they get hooked and spend more and more money on video pokers thinking they are playing "real" poker or slot machine. The state lottery board makes lots of money off gambling addictions and restaurants/bars get a hefty sum of money for hosting these game machines as "authorized state lottery retailers." It's pretty sad.

    I went to an identical sushi restaurant in California, USA. They had the plate counter and digital touch menu. The big difference was that you were guaranteed a gachapon toy at every 15 plates and every 5 plates would advance the animated story of a ninja. It was very cute, and made the dining experience all that more fun even for two adults!

    Kura Sushi chains are all over US as well. We even have one in Carrollton, Texas down the street from me.
    They are surprisingly consistent, taste very much like the cheap on-rail sushi ones in Japan.
    They do cost more though. Minimum $2.25 a plate, even for ones that would cost only a 100 yen in Japan.
    Although they are definitely fast-food sushi quality, the consistency of tasting exactly like the Japanese stores bring a huge ton of customers. Most other sushi places nearby are up-scale and Korean business. Which are good too, but distinctly different.
    As a Japanese immigrant in America I actually prefer the cheap tasting Kura over the more upscale Korean ones, simply due to taste being more familiar.
