Day in the Life of a Japanese Working Mom
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лют 2023
- A day in the life of a Japanese working mother of 2 children living in Tokyo Japan. This is the life of a Typical Japanese family living in Tokyo Japan with both parents working. Hifumi, 27 years old, works in Tokyo and runs her own churro shop while taking care of her 2 Japanese kids. The 2 Tokyo kids usually go to the nursery around 8:30 on weekdays so mornings are usually chaotic on top of her regular work schedule which starts shortly after she drops them off and continues until the afternoon, then she has to juggle the 2 kids schedules picking them up at separate times usually between 3-4 to also shuttle them separately to one of their many extracurricular activities and to finally bring them home just in time for dinner, but since today is a weekend there’s a slower pace to things, nonetheless Hifumi still has to balance some of her work today, while also taking care of her kids. She actually took several years off of work after giving birth, as she struggled mentally to take care of them on her own, while her husband worked to support the family financially. In Japan, it’s common enough for women to completely handle the child rearing responsibilities, that the term, one ope was coined, meaning one parent operation. But ultimately she decided being a Japanese housewife wasn’t for her and eagerly took a production job and eventually started her own business. Being a working mom in Japan isn’t easy, but she definitely prefers being a business owner compared to working at job for some else like when she worked in production. Now, she’s able to better manage and dictate her schedule so she can be flexible for her kids activities. Today, we'll see how this working Japanese mother manages her time between work, home and kids.

Shame on government of Japan for not offering more support to parents. They should at the very least double the monthly child benefit. Also some form of free daycare isn't unreasonable.
Please do days in life of a japanese doctors .
Please allow me to create Vietnamese subtitles. I already sent an offer to Tokyo Zebra. Please check the blog post 😭
Hi Paolo you are one of the most loved youtuber of mine, please can you make a video on HALAL FOOD RESTAURANT in JAPAN. PLEASE 🙏🙏🥺.
Could you do a day in the life of a japanese gamer?
Am I the only one that got exhausted just watching this? What a hard working mom! She went non stop from 6am to midnight!
Right. Good on her for being happy with her decision because it couldn't be me 😂
Yup, I'm even more of a child-free advocate after this.
Got exhausted too.
Yes by the time she and the kids got to her shop around 9am, I was already exhausted for her, thinking when will this stop? 😅 But that’s what we moms gotta do!
man i felt bad...
I love her aesthetic. The hat, the nails, the borderline kawaii-excess accessories, the glasses. She may be doing a lot, but she's doing it in a very stylish way.
The shoes💕 need those in my life
@CandyInSpanish those are the Reebok x Cardi B Club C sneakers if you are wondering
Yeah she’s dripped out 💦
Considering her large closet compared to her husbands and kids section, she’s very fashion oriented 😅
my life goal so much respect for Japanese culture and more specifically the WOMEN.
I like how she tries to not let her kids' emotions affect her own and she stays calm as best as she can 🙂
It’s still good to set boundaries- of course not by yelling. But if you don’t set clear expectations it can get chaotic.
@@nilbog972Yep those kids need boundaries. They are very different from the other Japanese children I have seen on this channel. They act spoiled, and that makes her life the double of the work.
@@nilbog972yea I get it kids will whine but based on this video it seems like they don’t know no means no
Its better to not have kids
Raising kids is definitely a woman responsibility still in this world.
U have to change career for kids and husband, but what do u get in return
Nothing and nope even little credit
I find this so crazy that we're both 27 and she has two kids and here I am in bed contemplating ordering Starbucks 🤣
This is wayyy too big of a commitment in life. I feel like the majority of us, guys or girls are gonna take your path lmao. Cheers to a comfy life!
Same hahaha😊
Nothing wrong with that, friend! 💅
LOL Me too!! 🤣🤣🤣
same
She’s such a great mom. Balancing work life with parental duties. And her method of “zoning out” and not reacting to the kids’ temper tantrums or breaking things is actually really good. Like she said, “you can’t rewind it.” You can only move forward. They’re still young and don’t know better, and they are still learning how to communicate their wants and needs. By seeing their mom, being calm and gentle, she is displaying proper behavior that they will learn as they get older.
Tatakae!
She's a cool mom
I swear that's the most effective way. No contest.
The only problem: she is exposing their kids way too much to social media at such a young age.
@@frasx3275 I agree especially tiktok has a lot of weird shit, but honestly she can't prevent it forever
She has the patience of a saint. I give her credit for wanting to do more with herself instead of staying at home and becoming restless. Hope her business does really well from here.
Not much patience required if they're plopped in front of a screen every 2 hours...
@@twnfaem honestly that and no restrictions is kinda scary
Raising children and cooking, cleaning and taking care of the household are not restlessness… that alone should be a job.
I agree here with the comments saying that the kids have too much screen time, but just the fact that she seems to be a happy person that wants the best for them (all the while having her own stuff going on) is pretty cool. The key is a balance between giving them what they want and setting limits.
love her! working mom at the same time she can manage households, herself and their kids.
As a working dad of two kids married to even a busier working mom, I totally can relate this. One thought that keeps me from going insane is "I won't be doing this forever.. one day my kids will grow up, leave the house and make their own family, on that day I will miss this moment"
Completely agree! Something I saw recently that I loved, and will take to heart was "Whenever I'm having a tough parenting day, I like to pretend I've traveled from the future to spend just one more day with my baby. It always helps me gain perspective." It definitely helps to remind ourselves that these are the days we'll miss dearly when our kids are grown up and living their own lives. Best of luck on your journey, from one dad to another. :)
The days are long but the years are short.
That’s a nice mindset to have 😊
Dads rock too!
So damn true.
Omg the names of her children being nana and hachi is so iconic
ikr
Bro I just rewatched Nana, how’d I not pick that up? 😂🥹
Ikr I thought about the anime nana 😅
I found the names so creative lol, they're literally called seven and eight, I love it
Plus her name is Hifumi, often written as 一二三, meaning one, two, three
Her mental fortitude is so strong! I salute her for balancing work, home, and her kids!
@Farb S It’s as much balance as one can get when you’ve gotta care for the kids while handling a business and house! Once the kids get older though, it should weigh easier on her shoulders.
She didn't had that much of work. What are you talking about ?
@@1A_B_C1
- She owns a business that she must monitor 24/7 and be available when her employees need her.
- Her husband works long hours so he isn't able to help with the house chores or the kids as often as needed.
- She has to watch her kids and cater to their needs when they become hungry, sleepy, tired, etc. All that jazz.
- As you may have seen (or skipped over) in the video, she only had time for herself to actually finish a project meant for her work by 10pm at night. Any alone time she has will be occupied by any and all business matter or self care that needs to be tended to.
- Paolo said that this was her day off, but even then she was still busy with the kids due to daycare not being readily available.
@@1A_B_C1 whats with the negativity? do you live such a sad life you comment lame shit like that? grow up, bum.
@@batacuzzy I'm not sad I'm just telling the truth . Don't get tilted so easily.
Nana and Hachi… I can definitely tell what her favorite manga is 🤣 she has such great style & her family seems to be doing well financially they have a beautiful home. She also seems like a great mother. Happy for her.
scrolling for this comment XD
@@uhlexseeuh lol me too!!!
so it wasn't only me
Omg I didn’t realize that! No wonder I got a “Why do those names together sound familiar?”.
I’m curious, what manga is this?
Naming the kida "Nana " and "Hachi" is a great idea . In japanese , Nana means seven and Hachi means eight. I found the family so beautiful with both the parents being so sweet and supportive. Especially when the mother said that she keeps telling her kids that she loves them and they make her happy. Also , the daughter has gorgeous hair.
she needs to name her next kid eleven like in stranger things
Plus her name is Hifumi, often written as 一二三, meaning one, two, three
Also like the anime Nana ❤️ 😭
Definitely my favorite episode, i would love to see one episode with the dad. He seems so friendly and funny
Working moms everywhere around the world deserve much credit just as much as their partners. Seems like they’re balancing their work and lives in a way that doesn’t interfere too much with everything else they have to do on a regular basis. Thanks for this video, Paolo. God bless you and your family.
Absolutely agree! It's amazing how working moms can juggle so many responsibilities and still manage to excel in their careers and be great parents. Hats off to all the superwomen out there. And kudos to Paolo for highlighting their hard work and dedication. Keep shining, everyone
men everywhere around the word deserve much credit since they work more dangerous jobs and longer hours to the point where it affects their health just so they can provide for their family. Women don't work dangerous jobs so they don't deserve as much credit.
@@mystermont2019 women are police officers, soldiers, corrections officers. All dangerous jobs.
@@mystermont2019oh brother
Working Dads also deserve equal credit. It's hard working while taking care of the kids regardless of sex!
She’s such a cool working mom. We’re the same age and I commend her so much. I can barely balance life with just my cat🤣
I have two cats and they are such a handful lol.
😂
Love this 💖💖💖💖😻😻
So basically, she practices respectful parenting as far as I can see when it comes to responding to her kids and being conscious of and regulating her own emotions so that they dont affect her kids negatively. 💛
Absolutely amazing mom!! I love the fact how she also mentions that she tells her kids how much she loves them on a regular basis too! Verbal affections of love from a parent can mean so much to a child. I also love her style and free spirit! Props to her and I wish her the best in her life, family, and business ❤️
This really goes against the Asian stereotype of Asian parents not being verbally expressive, even when they do it’s in rare moments or it comes off as a bit stilted.
I think you're right. My mother used to tell me how I ruined her life and I was the same shit of a person as my father, who used to beat her and me.
I really remember that she always said those kind of things even now that I'm 30. I agree with you that kids are really sensitive to verbal stimuli and how they can take the words that a significant adult says to heart. I'm sorry about my english, it's not my main language.
SHE NAMED HER KIDS NANA AND HACHI NO WAY 😭❤
Seven and eight
Nana and Hachi are the main characters in NANA! 😍
Yeaah i was so moved when i heard their names ಥ‿ಥ i didn't expect a nana reference here
@@keikof9188 still waiting for them to finish the anime 😔
@@aimeeackerman8559 Right?? She must be an UBER Nana fan to name both her kids after them, especially since there's an age gap between her kids, she must have planned this! 🤩😆
What a wonderful mom. She works so hard. Mother's chores never end and always repeating.
so are her churros
Sad for her. No time for herself.
@@gemini1123
Shut up.... XD
shes the chillest and best mom ever. her home and work life balance is everything!!
I agree that she seems like a wonderful mom. But home and work life balance? I don’t really think she has much of that considering she is sleeping only four to five hours a night. That’s not enough for anyone to healthily operate on. This seems to be really common there too. The Japanese work culture is pretty toxic to be honest.
I relate to this video so much as I am also a 27-year-old mom of 2 working full-time and taking care of my kids full-time! The term for “one-parent operation” really hit hard for me as I didnt realize how common it is for all the household work to fall on moms’ shoulders. Shout out to hardworking moms around the world, getting it all done with grace and dedication❤️
This is so sad, I hope your hisband finds it in his heart to help you with his own children :/
She deserves a spa day or something lol. Very hard working mom, but I love that she said she told the kids often that they make her happy. Lots of Japanese friends of mine said they don't really express feelings like that often with family or anyone else.
I adore how diligent, neat and discipline this family is. I really wanna have family like this. In my country, when your kids broke something, they got yelled and there is nothing such a "Are you okay?" came out of their parent's mouth. Yiks, it's literally what I got when I was a kid. Watching this really mesmerizing what I want to do with my life, working mom and have a wonderful kids who didn't get any emotional damage in their home.
In my youth I got both - first the humiliating scolding, and then the “are you’re ok?” 😅
@@TheMan21892 - I remember breaking one of the windows by accident out of anger but I instead told my dad that I was trying to close it and he actually believed that cause apparently that window wasn’t easy to close so he wasn’t mad at me and was glad that I was ok. I told him the truth many years later and he admitted that he wouldn’t of been mad at me for it as again the concern of my safety was more important.
I believe your parents would be more polite to you when there's a camera filming😅
Good those kids are to spoiled
That usually ends up with kids trying to hid the mess or not owing up to making it and later on when they're teens not feeling comfortable with telling their parents about things they do and need help fixing even bigger messes. When my kids were little and spilled stuff, the most they'd get was a sigh and "Go get a towel and clean it up please. You need to be more careful next time." (One of our three house rules is "If you make a mess, clean it up." I'd help them clean up messes when they were little and now that they're teens, it's automatic) One of my friends told me once, "You're so CALM! I'd be screaming at them!" They're little. They're still learning. Accidents happen. Even adults spill stuff! As long as they clean up their mess and no one was hurt, we're good.
She seems like such an amazing, hardworking mom! But I have to say, this is some of the best birth control ever. I was stressed watching this 😩
She is such an amazing mom and business owner. I love the child rearing method she's doing. While its difficult in the moment, by not yelling, she's teaching her kids by example how to handle stressful situations. The kids also feel more comfortable turning to her if they have trouble. I remember growing up that my parents would yell at me whenever I made a mistake, it got to the point that I became scared even turning to them when I needed help because I didn't want to get yelled at. The fact that she's balancing being a mom with being a business owner with two stores opened is incredible. Also round of applause to both her and her husband who sharing chores and duties in the home.
I Struggle to see , how one keeps up their sanity with this routine and not loose it?
Moms really are amazing.
Japanese are very hardworking, much hardworking than us. Thats why every time, I get tired and fed up of going to my work, I always watch Paolo's 'A day in the life of'. Watching the Japanese work makes me motivated and go back to work the next day.
She loves her children
Americans are way behind Japanese folks...
Sacrifice and love. As husbands, myself a father of one daughter, it’s already a struggle with two parents. Two kids and one parent is a lot.
@@ShushiG2022 i do the same thing!! 😅
She is impressive. The job title of "mother" is no doubt the hardest and on top of that she is also a "business owner". I have nothing but the highest respect for her.
Is your profile picture from a real beach?
Mother being the hardest job in the world? Not even close. Try sewage work/garbage collector, or managing a big company as a CEO.
@@fred6907 this isn't a competition, always gotta be that one person smh
@@Lara-vo6rp Gotta call out wrong statements. People might get the wrong idea here.
@@fred6907 wrong statements? you're 100% a man who doesn't do shit in the house. stfu.
I like how she's raising her kids to be independent but in a good way. Can watch what they want.
Takes time with them, doesn't yell and lets them help clean it up.
What a rock star mom! She seems endlessly patient. It’s too bad the dad has such long working hours during the weekend. Such long hours is not only tough on the person but the whole family. They are all working so hard to do right by their family.
i can sense how calm and gentle she is as a parent
Sadly kids exploit it by having needless sibling rivalry.
This is hands down my favorite series on UA-cam. I’ve been watching Paolo since 2020, and the content keeps getting better!!
This video was especially meaningful to me as a small business owning mama of 2 kids. I can just feel her exhaustion 😂
You should watch some of his other ones as well there just as good
Surprisingly, this has been the one channel that has better illustrated what an undertaking it is to start a family and making me appreciate what it does to your life, you really stop living for yourself and more for your kids literally. I think the one with your wife and kid was also just as exhausting and entertaining (and enlightening) as this one. Respect to her! She's doing a great job and her babies love her!
I can say that she is a really good mum, always making sure to spend time with her kids, not taking her anger on them and yelling at them she's a strong mum with good style and a good husband 💪
I just want to say that this family's fashion is seriously on point. Also massive respect for her work ethic and calm parenting style.
Paolo, sooo much of this is familiar to me. Well, in my case the dad version. But my wife wasn’t home that often due to her work schedule (big Japanese company) so I had the highly memorable experience juggling a full time job and being primary caregiver for 2 small children at the same time. I know it’s usually mom’s doing this so my own experience gave me so much respect for them. One image that hit me was her just getting (or making) food for her kids and then eating the leftovers. Been there. Good times. 😅
I am so grateful to you for making and showing this day in the life of a working mom. Hifumi is amazing, and so is her family.
Amazing mom, so calm and patient. You go girl!!❤
This is an eye opener. I’ve seen it all. I love how deep you get with working moms, kids, how they work and are the roles between a married couple work. Honestly I’m learning so much about the culture in Japan and how life is.
I really adored this playlist. It's very impressive.

Every 'life in the day' video has made me deeply respect the people starring in them while also appreciate my own relaxed life more, but this one has got to take the cake. I'm the same age and probably could not handle it as graciously as she did, mad respect
