- This is a review and test of the DeWalt Atomic DCF513b 3/8" Cordless Brushless 20v Ratchet. This is the same ratchet at the DCF512b but in 3/8" drive instead of 1/2" drive. We also compare it to the air powered Aircat ACR802R and a Husky air ratchet as well.

Very thorough evaluation! Just arrived from GJ and really have enjoyed you work!
Welcome :) Anything else you'd like to see, let me know!
For the sound test you pushed down on the Dewalt and cause loud vibration sound through the plywood, same as the Husky. The middle tool was held in your hand.
The aircat is just REALLY quiet for an air ratchet surprisingly.
Yep, I seen that too. Plywood was tha majority of the DeWalt noise. I have one . They are fairly quiet compared to the air ratchet.
@@jimhoward9644 compared to most yes, but if you've never heard the aircat, you don't know how quiet they are.
Great Side By Side Testing.
Thanks!
The 5AH Powerstack battery would probably pair well with this, being pretty close in size to the standard 2AH in the video while slightly heavier for your balance concern.
I'm a bit disappointed in the 5ah powerstack, it's actually wider/longer than the regular 5ah battery...doesn't make much sense if it's not more compact. I find the balance is decent with this tool after using it for a while longer on the 2ah, but honestly think the small powerstack is the way to go because you get full beans but it's as compact as possible...you really only use these cordless ratchets where you can't fit an impact or just need to run down bolts gently.
Great video
Thanks! Having used it a bit now, it sure is more handy than my air one.
TTC in the house, I'm impressed and I'm also impressed with this DeWalt gem of a ratchet she's a keeper worth every cent.👍🏻
The 1/2 was at Farm & Fleet for $100 (half price) on sale.
That's an awesome deal!
Sound test had the dewalt held against the table surface adding vibration noise. That test was faulty.
The numbers are still pretty well spot on regardless of how it's held, the aircat is just really quiet in comparison.
Can I use DCB203: 20V MAX XR Compact Li Ion Battery (2.0Ah) for this ratchet? Thanks
Yup, for sure...that's the battery I use :)
I wish they would release an extended reach version.
There is the DCF503EB which is extended reach but it's the 12v, not the 20v.
Why are you comparing a battery powered tool with air tools?
Why not? A lot of people will be coming from an air ratchet when they get a cordless (such as myself)
Most engines now being aluminum blocks and engines being a I’m not gonna use 70 foot pounds of torque. And it’s made pretty much just loosen fasteners and bolts so you can get the job done faster than and more convenient that you don’t have to have an air compressor.
I'll use them for brakes/suspension work for the lighter bolts like top of struts or caliper bolts, 70ft-lbs is usually enough to break those free when the older 30ish ft-lbs couldn't do it without ratcheting. But ya, 9 times out of 10 it's just to run bolts in/out where lots of torque isn't needed.
You cannot measure the torque the ratchet applies when tightening to the torque required to free a torqued bolt/nut. It may NOT be the same. For an example the applied torque (tighten) on a 961B Dewalt Impact is is rated at 1200 ft-lbs, for breakaway torque it is rated at around 1750. And how accurate is your torque wrench, has it ever been calibrated? Failed test.. Just like the sound test which was already noted to be a failure.
Thanks for your expert opinion.
What you should have done was compare the DeWalt cordless ratchet with other cordless ratchet
I wish I had more to compare :)
I bought this ratchet for the heavy torque rating after sending back a 60 ft/lb AC Delco cordless ratchet. The Dewalt may actually be too powerful when you're drilling town nuts and bolts. It's also pricey, but I'm invested in the Dewalt battery eco system, so I guess it's worth the investment. I also briefly tried the 33 ft/lb Hyper Tough ratchet from Walmart. It was the perfect size and weight and really comfortable to hold. But it was a wet noodle when it came to performance.
@@drbyersyeah, you do need to feather it a bit when coming down on stuff...for loosening though it's great.
Overpriced garbage complete with planned obsolescence. The pneumatic is much better and nothing beats a good 'ole fashion real ratchet wrench. Not much time is saved with the either option over the manual wrenches anyway.
I've found it handy just to grab and not having the air hose coming out the end fits in a few spots it otherwise wouldn't.
I would agree though that it's pretty low on the necessity list, a cordless impact should definitely come first.
Also, Dewalt's 20v platform has been around for over a decade and probably will be for another decade or more, so if "planned obsolescence" is a 20+ year useable life, I can live with that.
Nobody wants to deal with a gigantic air compressor and air hose. That's so last century.
show me a battery powered tool from last Century that still works. I've got plenty of pneumatic tools that are decades old and work perfectly
