It should be noted - the 75 ft lbs of torque that they advertised on this is tightening torque, not break-away. Would be good to see if it lives up to the advertised specs.
Torque test channel tested it and if I remember correctly it was able to do a little over 75ft lbs
Hey Tim, maybe DeWALT got that torque number from tightening not loosing bolts. Can you try running a bolt down all the way and then check what the tool tighten it to?
correct. max torque is in the forward position because it has that "running start"
Lots of tool review channels come and go, but Tim Johnson is still out here producing quality content.
I ordered this kit and they are advertised with 2 Powerstack batteries. I only received one so i got in touch with the company i purchased it from and then they forwarded the message to Dewalt, should be receiving my extra battery soon. That was my only issue. Other than that its a great tool.
Where did you order it from?
@@gammagonad1657I got mines from CPO Outlets because at the time it was the only website with the 2 batteries, and it was faster free shipping but also ACME Tools has it.
Yes a pass through socket set would be good as well as a 1/4 anvil.
They make a 12v version with a 3/8 anvil and a 1/4 anvil attachment
I love these tool reviews including testing. Keep up the good work. You are doing great.
I just looked up the spec for the milwaukee inside adapters, they are .63 as well, so the insider sockets should fit this as well.
i got one from acme tools for $160 yesterday. sitting here waiting for it to arrive. i hope they make a 1/4" attachment for it
I paid $249 for the kit shown, During Black Friday sales
After seeing this video I went out and bought one,l am not a mechanic but I know it will be very useful around the yard machines and garage
I love the dewalt toughbuilt Led Tape measure carry mine everyday comes in handy under vehicles doing custom Bumper and skid plate work 9:10 @Shop Tool Reviews
Just a big drop of videos all at once from you guys lately. Love it.
I do tend to like the Torpedo Battery Ratchets better but i been liking my 20v and 12v dewalt Electrix Ratchets i will definitely pick one of these kits up i like they provide with the kit a Oil resistant power stack battery 5:28 @Shop tool Reviews
Great vid! I'm getting mine from my Mac dealer next week. I already have the 12v dcf500 sealed head. As a mechanic i would never go back to the older designs.
Im looking to buy one. Im not in the dewalt 12v line but im on the 20v and want to know someones comparison on both. I mainly looking for 3/8 so i dont mind the 1/2 and 1/4 even though i would use 1/4 more. But if you were to get one which would you pick?
@marknogueira6425
I'd say if size doesn't matter go with the 20v. It does have more power. But the 12v is faster and smaller. They're both great options really. I have both now!😁
Tim your on fire lately, pumping out good vids one after a another. Good quality as always. Thanks for the content
Just discovered your site and subscribed; really helpful. Thx
Another great episode!! Thanks
The torque numbers are tested in tightening not loosening from what I understand. Other testers that show the the tightening power show they match the numbers
Always great reviews tim
Best part of the video is the LED Tape Measurer plug. Slick!
Reminds me of the New Milwaukee M12 Insider Ratchet @Shop Tool Reviews
Thanks Brotha for the review
Torque means a ton to me here in the rust belt. A ratchet that can't run it out even after it's broke loose is useless to me.
It sure looked like it was jerking your hand a bit during tightening. I’m pretty sure that torque rating is measured during tightening not breaking free or loosening.
I have it and It does jerk the shit out ur hand if u let it
I wonder if the Milwaukee sockets fit?
Another great informative video as always. I’m a material handler technician ( forklift , order pickers , reach trucks etc) and the engineers gave no shits about us mechanics. I welcome all of these tools getting smaller and stronger because we all know the limited work space we have to deal with…do they make a 1/4” insert for this ? Thanks
The 12v version comes with a 1/4" and 3/8" anvils. Model# is dcf500
Nice job on Dewalt 20V
The big question for me is, does the tool have a spot to store the extra anvil?
No it does not
My question is on the Milwaukee insider and this ratchet can the hex socket be used as a socket if so what sizes are these hex sockets on both tools. Or is this again manufacturers instructions/warranty
He said the hex is 5/8-16mm. Not sure what the insider is, but im sure the info is somewhere. Would be cool if the insider sockets fit, but i wouldnt expect them to since its 2 dif companies and dewalt may have plans to make them. Would be silly not to
I just looked, found one of the adapaters, looked up the spec, length and width are both .63, height 1.51. The adapter for the dewalt is .63 according to his caliper, so the milwaukee ones actually should fit.
Ooo now this is interesting, a lot like the Mac interchangeable air ratchet
based off same head design mac and dewalt same family of companieses
Running starts with these cordless ratchets are practically a requirement in the shop. If it can’t survive, in the trash it goes
I still have a Craftsman C9 gearwrench passthrough flavor. Nice to see other alternatives. Now ya need to check out Milwaukee's version
I’m really interested in this ratchet, just wish it fit the nano style outer hex 17mm sockets, especially since they’re so close already at 5/8 and that seems like a huge missed opportunity.
Also can’t wait to see you test the new flex fx1472
I seriously hope DeWalt is working on manufacturing pass through sockets that can be inserted into this and their dcf500 model to compete with the new Milwaukee insider that has a big advantage over this. I was actually about to buy the DeWalt until I saw that Milwaukee with the passthrough sockets.
Only certain sizes pass through for milwaukee
If dewalt made a low profile socket set that plugged directly into this tool without having to use the anvil I would buy it instantly. that would be amazing.
the milwuakee insider is hwat your looking for lol
@@dylanballard4165 It has to be dewalt.
@@dylanballard4165 I looked at that tool before purchasing the Dewalt, this one just seems to be so much better made, plus it is a lot more powerful(on paper and in the real world). Definitely powerful! A Milwaukee fanboy just won’t want to hear it though lol.
@@dylanballard4165 imo this with a purpose built socket set would be better imo as the insider has some issues itself
Found the kit with ratchet, 1 power stack battery and charger for $249. I might have to pick this up. Since it's $349 every where I checked.
Lowes have the same kit with 2 power stack & charger for $279.
@tomcao4382 with military discount it's $251.00 at Lowe's DCF510GE2
I definitely picked one up for $249. I’ve only used it on one automotive project but I love it so far. I didn’t even realize you could switch the anvil around. It keeps getting better. Hopefully they do release those sockets, as well as a 1/4 anvil, then I’ll be in tool heave 😜
Love it and my new dcf500 sealed head!
Which of the 2 is most used?
Buying one soon
You should review the new kobalt cordless ratchet
I would love to hear your opinion on which you think would be the best out of all the ratchets that are on the market. For example, best performance and best bang for your buck
Not bad if you’re on the DeWalt platform but it seems to me like a 20v version of the Milwaukee M12 Insider ratchet.
DeWALT ain't gonna sneak nothing past you, you're just way too smart for that, you're like one of those smart people I've heard about 😂
I’d pay the extra $50 for the Milwaukee and get extended reach, the pass thru sockets (8-19, 21) and two lights…but I’m also a Milwaukee whore!
But it's still not sealed head and has less torque.
@@slingin_tires did you see the Milwaukee insider video from this channel before you commented? More torque? No DeWalt couldn't do 40 ft lbs without a running start ! Insider comes with pass through sockets which are awesome for all thread all long bolts. Also comes with adapters for regular 3/8 or 1/2 inch sockets. The Milwaukee is More low profile and is an extended reach too! Milwaukee nailed it and DeWalt just came up with the huge head instead...
The DeWalt is pass through too they just didn't make sockets for it yet. And definitely has more power!! Now dry your tears fan girl. Thanks for the laugh tho! Hahaha 😂😃😂
he didnt torque down the bolt with the dwalt, then take the torque wrench and check to see if it tightens down to 75 ft lbs.
if they would only come out with 20 volt long reach ratchet
Same I'd like a long version of this
I have this ratchet snd love it. But i wish they wouldnput s light by the anvil so it was actualy usefull lol. The light is in the nist random spot. Why not just put it where you can see what your working on
Where do you get those sockets from with the different colors on the tip of the sockets?
Hi friend, can you set a 1/4 adaptater in this ratchet ?
Those low profile sockets you were talking about.... Not sure about that, cause Milwaukee doesn't produce anything without 2 or 3 different patends on it, such as those low profile sockets that come with their pass-through cordless ratchet.
Yes, I know, I'm not commenting on brand spank'n new video.😎 But, Algorithm.!?
That being said, and having already used both, and being already established on both Milwaukee platforms. I have the old Milwaukee 3/8"-small head(cause it gets into small places. And bought it specifically for that purpose, not for it's power.)I'd rather Milwaukee bought the DeWalt head.
I'm gonna be getting the DeWalt. This is a Complete Kit. That's also a great way to get people established on your battery platforms. I'm also gonna get the DeWalt 3/8" 12v ratchet, though I forget the model #. Guess I lost some nerd points for that.
I'm also curious if DeWalt has or plans to release 20v 90°(I know everyone calls them 'Right Angle') impact which I'm also in the market for this year..
Between Milwaukee, DeWalt and SKIL, I'll probably drop close to $5,000.00 on tools this year, because I'm cutting the cords, and air-hose wherever possible or practice to do so.
Nascar style Lmfao I call That a Neutral Drop When socket is spinning and You slam it on the fastener to break it free Good testing @Shop Tool Reviews
These tools are going so fast now that when tightening we need an auto stop function just like in the impact wrenches.
Hi! Can this tool be used manually, like a regular ratchet, or only automatically?
Very nice! I’m excited for the 12v version, it’s supposed to be much higher rpm but less torque
I have the new 12v dcf500 and it’s double the rpm and more torque than the first gen 1/4 12 and about the same torque as the 12v 3/8
Oh wow! Good to know the torque doesn’t change much👍 hopefully I can soon get my hands on one!
@@randallsensenig1075 absolutely you’ll love it. I posted a video of it here on UA-cam.
best cordless ratchet made by far currently
@@mikethetoolman8776, you’ve used the new Milwaukee M12 ratchet then, correct?
As a regular consumer of Dewalt tools i hope in a future update they make this compatible with both 20v/12v system battery.
It IS 20v!!
Like some1 else said i think the torque # for ratchets may be the tightening spec not loosening and probably with the nut having jus a little time to build up speed not finger tight snug already
No, that's not the case. Tightening torque is always much less than breakaway (loosening) torque due to the increase ramp (threads), and the continual increase in friction as the nut tightens. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews i get that with impacts. But its jus a ratchet. Like it doesnt develop its torque without the speed already going cuz it doesnt have a hammer and a spring inside the housing. Like you said if you get the socket fully spinning full speed then put it onto the nut or bolt it will break free alot more. Definitely not good for your sockets tho. Idk tho im jus guessing
@@ShoptoolreviewsYou already proved it yourself at about 15:20 when you ran everything down and then torqued to 100. You barely had to move the torque wrench.
It’s literally a ratchet not an impact it is definitely tightening torque that’s being quoted not breakaway
Im liking the switch
Will my DCF900 Charger charge this battery?
Yes
The question we're all thinking is the sealed head ratchet vs the new Milwaukee
The sealed head is better overall. More torque and better direction switch.
@@slingin_tiresthe Dewalt is giant, anybody who works in a professional environment is gonna take the Milwaukee because it is faster and smaller.
@@michaelchristopher8266 Yea well they make a 12v version too. It's smaller and comes with 3 different anvils.😁
@@slingin_tires the head is still giant and the battery is awkward. Mac tools sells a ratchet that uses Dewalt batteries, and it is a much better design the head is smaller and the battery is out of the way. The Dewalt ratchets just aren’t designed well.
No the head is within 1/8'' of Milwaukee's high speed. I measured. And it has 450 rpm as well! 💯
maybe an optical illusion, but that toolbag looks like it has a new (longer/slimmer) aspect ratio compared to the current dewalt toolbags (maybe about as wide as their 11" bag, but as long as their 15" bag?). very cool if so
Pretty nice ratchet but ....... They give you a 3/8 , 1/2 Anvils ....why not give you a 1/4 anvil as well .
I get it...... They will prolly come out with a 1/4 stand alone ratchet...... but for the person who would like to use the robust style ratchet and smaller socket use .
I know i would like to use all three anvils if i picked it up for myself .
12 volt has 1/4-3/8 and bit driver inserts
This thing would probably strip or break most fasteners that you would bust out a 1/4 ratchet for. I say that owning the older 3/8 20v model that I'm sure makes less power
Can I use DCB203: 20V MAX XR Compact Li Ion Battery (2.0Ah) for this ratchet? Thanks
Yes
Can you use any Dewalt battery on it, or only the Power Stack batteries?
Yes, any DeWalt 20V battery will work.
@@Shoptoolreviews Nice! Thanks for the reply.
Biggest onock on the flat battery is the handle. Ive got larger hands and that battery pack is in the way
They dropped the ball on the nano sockets for sure. I would 100% buy this if you could use nano sockets without anvil
How tight will it tighten a fastener
With just the power of the ratchet? Probably 25-30 ft-lbs. You can use your own physical force to go past 100 ft-lbs. Thanks for watching.
Watch at 16:15. Guarantee you those are way more than 25ft lb. As a mechanic you can tell..I would guess 50+.
it’s not a “running start” it’s the tooth being in the correct position!
The 'Sealed-Head' design does a lot, from keeping dust, grime, trash out! While keeping grease/lube inside, along with reinforcement. 3 HUGE PLUSES. Gentlemen..... sorry, I meant 'People' don't need any pretty lady techs hunting me down for a comment I made.
This is why you rubber boots on some air powered ratchets that didn't use the 'Jacketed-design', though a rubber boot offers zero reinforcement.
No way it's getting 75 foot pounds at a 300 Rpm Speed should be a slower speed for higher torque @Shop Tool Reviews
It's like almost using a Air ratchet.. But cordless
Craftsman used to have a pass-through ratchet, it was made by TTI so I'm surprised that Ryobi doesn't make one. There have been a few occasions where I had to run nuts down an exceptionally long bolt and a pass-through design would have been awesome.
Honest review *****
Torquing the bolts to 70 ft lbs does not mean it takes 70 ft lbs to break them loose.
I just have to say cuz I hear people get this expression wrong all the time. When expressing that you don't care much it's not I could care less it's I couldn't care less because if you could care less that means that you care more than you necessarily need to but when you couldn't care less it means you care to the minimum of your ability. I couldn't care less because I pretty much already don't care.
I've spent years trying to fix this problem in people. Sorry man, they'll never change.
I could care less
@@elmateo487 well thank you. It's nice to know that there are some people out there that care about the things I say
All I can say is thank you and Please continue to raise awareness
I could care less
This looks way more ergonomic than milwaukee
If you HAD to pick one, one to use for the rest of your life would it be #1 or #2?
1. The DeWalt
2. The M12 Insider Ratchet
Let me know if you see this comment. I really love the channel and trust your reviews.
#1
I don’t think DeWalt makes tools for lazy people- there is nothing wrong with breaking the nut FIRST and ratcheting the rest off 😂😂😂😅 *and the torque value is tested at tightening, not loosening (NOT advertised as a breaking bar ratchet)
Long time in the making. Too long. I bought the ryobi+ long neck 1/4" and 3/8" quite a while ago.
Milwaukee beats them with long reach extended ratchet, not even close. This DeWalt is $400😁
The tool only is 250
I’ve had the worst luck with everything brushless from dewalt. Love their brushed line, but man are the brushless giant piles of unreliable poop.
@v.simonson5170 Sorry you've found it that way. I've had extremely good reliability with mine.
I guess dewalt team has never worked on cars before because that battery size will be a nightmare to work with. If they make a smaller battery it would be better
The normal (non power stack) batteries are like half the size
I have 2 of them one for my hand drill and one for my “My4Sons” backpack sprayer
@teelee8760 You're absolutely wrong. They work just fine!
Have you guys ever hold the Milwaukee m12 ratchet with the compact battery? You'll see the difference. That's why many people choose Milwaukee over dewalt.
@teelee8760 I care about torque because i live in the rust belt. I've proven DeWalt's to be the strongest. 💯😃
Compre un DCF 512B y me duro solo 15 minutos, escasa mente lo prendí 👎🏽
🔴🔥 HARD PASS! IM ALL BLOODY!
#AllRedEverything #Milwaukee #EverythingMilwaukee
Milwaukee Insider Ratchet BEATS this ALL DAY! ❤
No it doesn't. The only (advantage) at this point is that it's long reach. DeWalt's has a better direction switch and more torque. Oh and it's even sealed head!
Batteries??? Garbage!
If thats the crap that were supposed to buy then I choose hand tools I already got.
I need a wife.
can you please include metric units besides your weird freedom measurements that nobody but you is using....or do you hate the rest of the world and dont want international viewers?
I bet he'd love to have more international viewers, just not the crybaby ingrates- such as yourself...
Dewalt instantly to copy milwakee 😂😂
Kind of but DeWalt had announced theirs first. Besides it it being sealed head and having more torque.
Ratchets are not impact tools
