    This is extremely helpful! Thank you! I tried to do a 30min warm-up with this nose breathing/breath-holding technique prior to my morning running today (used to just step out and start running with zero warm-ups), and I was already able to breathe much easier and even run a few miles further before I had to reach for my inhaler.

    we had a special day in school where we went to a sauna for 3-4 hours. i didn't stay in the sauna for more than 30 mins. there were swimming pools with 34 degree celcius water too maybe that also helped. After the sauna we had a 2 hour break and then 3 hours physical education we played football, basketball and volleyball. I played for three hours with short breaks but never had any problems breathing. Normally i start to feel my lungs hurt after 10 mins of exercise. maybe go to a sauna or put a towel over your head with hot water under it before you exercise.

    4 years of running. I did 4-6 miles. minimum 3 times a week but normally 5. I lost 100punds in 1 year. But after that first year.... no matter how hard I Trained my time would not get better.
    I feel chocked after few minutes. Tried doing long warmups, interval trainings but the speed never came. I can remember when Gym at school back in the day i could run and run and rund until the heart pounded and u felt the hearth was the restriction... now its just like I don't get oxygen.... I have good breathing teqnuics but nope. My heart does not get the air.
    I would die of lack of oxygen I was to only breathe through my nose while running....
    Had issues with very high resting heart beat my whole adult life, but it went down to 48bpm and i got dizzy every time i got up from sitting position too fast.
    Ended up stop running as there was no progress anymore but i want to start again.

    I have exercise induced asthma and use an inhaler during exercise if i feel like i need it. But I usually don't need it unless im doing leg day and then it flares up really bad! Maybe it's just because leg day is harder then other muscle groups but it is concerning how difficult it becomes to breath during my leg workout, the inhaler hardly even helps. I am going to try breathing through my nose more!

    I'm confident that this is because the blood is thickening I have Frozen elbow and when I get up because my frozen elbow hurts I have breathing difficulties and when I exercise it heats the blood up and makes it so that the blood is moving into my body at the rate that it's supposed to and the breathing difficulties go away which is strictly because my blood is heated and I believe if we made a needle to change blood temperature that when the blood is heated it would turn into more of a liquid and the blood would be able to go to the lungs at the rate that it is supposed to

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  4 роки тому +9

      Hi Chloe. Improve your Control pause or BOLT score. Generally, asthmatics dramatically over breathe and have a very poor tolerance to CO2. By applying some of the more gentle exercises initially like “Breathe Light, Breathe Right” and “Many small Breath Holds” clients with asthma can start to regain control over their disease whilst safely developing a tolerance to CO2. Practice reduced breathing exercise for 3 times a day, for 30 minutes each time - in the morning, during the day (maybe in the middle of the day - around lunch time), and in the evening before going to bed to ensure a more restful sleep and helping to calm the breathing volume during the night. Severe asthma- do many small breath holds, and small breath holds during walking. Exercise 3 (Buteyko) is the best exercise for severe asthma.

    What if you have no ability to breath through the nose? My nasal passages are 80-90% collapsed and deformed. I was born that way. If I try to breath through my nose it sounds like a trumpet, is physically painful and I start to see stars after about 10 seconds. I've been on a waiting list for an operation for 3 years.

    What’s a bolt score ?

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi @dlopdx,
      BOLT stands for Body Oxygen Level Test.
      It is a score taken at the same time daily (best done in the morning) that gives you a guide to your breathing progress.
      It involves taking a breath in through the nose, out through the nose, hold your breath and time the breath hold.
      Hold the nose to make sure no air sneaks in.
      Then hold the breath until you feel the first moderate to strong desire to breathe or the first involuntary contractions of the breathing muscles.
      Here is a brief explanatory video on how to take the BOLT score: ua-cam.com/video/iEGNXbj0QgM/v-deo.html
      Also, 'Breathe' author James Nestor recently used the BOLT test on the popular Diary of a CEO podcast.
      ua-cam.com/video/IXJmTl7AFGs/v-deo.html
      Hope that helps.

    When I breathe too fast or have a strong airflow coming towards me such as a fan or strong wind, I tend to get an irritated throat. If I don't do anything about it, my throat will become sore and I will eventually get bronchitis with chest congestion. Does this sound like I have exercised induced bronchoconstriction/asthma or something else?

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  4 роки тому +2

      Try to slow down your breathing. Wear the tape at night - in will ensure nasal breathing during sleep. Also, try to breathe only through the nose all the time ( during rest, work and sleep). A proper warm-up would be starting with breathing light while walking, breathe regular and calm through the nose using the diaphragm.

    One really important aspect in all of this is to lose weight if overweight, and cut down on foods that are high in sugar. Being overweight, eating large meals, unhealthy, smoking and stress is going to make you breathe more and feed back into your symptoms.

    • @OxygenAdvantage
      @OxygenAdvantage  4 роки тому

      Hi Anna, please read these two articles: oxygenadvantage.com/nasal-breathing-running/ and oxygenadvantage.com/improved-running-economy/ to see how nasal breathing can improve performance. The objective is to create a need for air. Ensure that you jog and run at a pace that lets you keep your mouth closed. To make progress, breathing should always be through the nose. Breathing must be controlled and the air shortage should not be so much that it causes you to open the mouth. If you need to open your mouth during physical exercise, you are pushing yourself too hard. Slow down instead and exercise at a level that is right for you. Also, this page might be helpful to you: buteykoclinic.com/breathing-while-exercising/.

Two things have helped me: neti pot and a nasal corticosteroid, which i only use when nothing else woks (because it may cause glaucoma, so I use it sparingly). You may have a sinus issue that might need to be seen with a doc, if you can.
