TF2 Mobile (actually called Teams of Fortress 2) and TF2: Source 2 are miracles, the first for being allowed to exist by Valve and having constant updates and the second for being the dream of every TF2 player who has been waiting.

It's a casual what-if project that may or may not be a 'thing'. Still super cool, but not a reason to scream at the devs
To be fair, screaming at the devs is less effective than trying to scream at a brick wall to make it fall over.

2:58 Toofty is actually correct as all graphical calculations in Source TF2 are done with the just the CPU. So it has to do all of its standard calculations plus everything the GPU would normally be doing.

@Big Chungus Mouse yeah it's kinda sad that people just assume everyone has a strong gpu. the reason i like tf2 and valve games in general is well 1, they're masterpieces, but 2, they run really well on my pc because they don't follow the standard of being gpu reliant. peasants like us can't run these things. not everyone has an rtx 3090

@@starcasm3133 yeah but the fact that every single calculation is done by the cpu is not good. The gpu is not under as much stress all the time, as opposed to the cpu. Dividing the processes of the game between both the cpu and the gpu ensures that both components are kept stable and safe. Of course if a game were to use your 2003 gpu to it's maximum capacity, it would create a serious heat and safety issue. Same thing the other way around. If a game were to use a shitty cpu to it's maximum capacity, it would create a serious heat and safety issue. Most games nowadays are more gpu reliant, because it's more efficient. The game doesn't have to share its power with your OS, antivirus, steam and all the other programs running on your computer. However, the most these programs are gonna use the gpu for is to draw ui elements, and they don't even do that every time anyway.
I get your pain. My pc has a shit i3 7th gen and a barely serviceable gtx 750, but with enough tinkering, I can make most games from the early 2010's run at a smooth 60fps.
Ideally, every game could ask you which component to use more, but that is hard to implement without making issues to existing firmware.
This is incorrect. Shader calculations, anything to do with VRAM (Texture, lightmaps, viewport resolution, etc.) and A LOT of other stuff use the GPU. The game is not entirely rendered in the CPU, or else it would perform extremely poorly. It's just that particle system calculations are done entirely on the CPU because this game was published in 2007 and back then GPUs weren't as powerful as today.
Also, the game is very old so it doesn't push a modern GPU at all, but it is still possible to get bottlenecked by the GPU. Use anything ancient or slow like a 9600gt and watch that thing reach 100%.

If valve were to take tf to the next level, this is what they would do. On the original source, tf just gets way too congested, so I hope we get to see this one day.

@@ezekielrauch3703 what's with all the people calling this mod a disgrace and that it looks “too realistic”. I think it looks more cartoonish than the original TF2. It looks more like the concept art with those sharp shadows. I also think the more desaturated look fits TF2, as it was already pretty desaturated to begin with.
@@Everik-ct6pg I think it should look like just an upscaled version of TF2 similar to how other source 2 ports have been. The sandbox lighting engine doesn’t work well iMO
I feel like people don't even want a TF3, as someone with 6600 hours in this damn game, there is very little I would change, add or remove to the game, so just a straight conversion from source engine to source 2 engine just like cs:go would be the perfect update, I hope these people are able to be assisted by the TF-team to bring this to the real game

I just wish it was a standalone project, instead of being a mod for S&Box. I know it would be a lot more complicated to develop from scratch on a different engine (or on Source 2), but it would make it more independent and less prone to being affected by any trouble that comes to/from S&Box itself.
@kinder egg surprise gaming Considering how Valve is handling TF2, I don't really think that would be a good thing.
Counter Strike was a direct mod from Half Life and that ended up well.

TF2 is already a mod of a mod, so making a mod of an official game should be alright. If you think about it, anything you make is a mod. If you really want to start from scratch you better be assembling your own graphics binaries (like OpenGL, this would be extremely hard to do and there really isn't any reason to).
S&Box is Source 2 (Valve specifically gave Garry Newman the Source 2 Dev Kit)
The gui should have an settings so you can change it from "modern/new" to "classic/old"
As much as i want it, TF:S2 and will never get picked up by valve

This is super impressive. I'm just imagining what the Spycicle kills could look like - imagine a block of ice actually encasing the victim, while adding a frosted texture overall over their whole body - that would just look frankly insane.
Personally, I prefer the new HUD they made. It's not unlike the bottle makeover - they're re-imagining what the game could be if it was made today with the same goals and design in mind. As long as they stay true enough that it really feels like just a modern day TF2, and not something new entirely, I totally love it.

I like the direction they're going with the HUD. I think it mixes well with Source 2's more realistic lighting. It kind of helps it shape it's own identity too. However, I would like an option to use the original TF2 HUD.
You know what's wild? Source 2 has pretty close VR support, and I would love PC-VR cross play in TF2!
I remember there being a vr mode for TF2. Not roomscale ofc and definitely not with controllers. It was cool, but it was just a novelty really.

Regarding the hud:
-I think they should keep the hud team colored rather than having it be gray
-I hope they don't use that icon and similar icons, I dislike it for some reason. How about a live model replicating what the player is doing? (movement, shooting, voice commands)
-I can only hope to see it become more angular, right now it's very straight.
-The healthbar is a bit uuh... boring? Feels wrong saying that but yeah the HP-cross was a much more fun way of implementing it
-Having things like killstreaks and other icons would be much more fitting over by the weapon bar, unlike how regular tf2 does it by putting it next to the player

Source 2's lighting engine gives me the same vibe as tf2's map concept art. I know some don't like how it looks, but i think it's already pretty good. All they need is some rim lighting on the character models to complete the TF2 look.

I'm really looking forward to this as I've been thinking that someone should get started on porting TF2 to Source2 so that the spaghetti code can be fixed and Valve can get back to adding updates to the game and not be repulsed by how incomprehensible the code is.

This whole project is inspiring to me because it shows to dedication fans have towards TF2. I love how they are making it look like how it would have been if Tf2 was made in modern day 2018 or so with improvements to the graphics but nothing that will light you computer on fire. Great work and shout out to Toofy for making the video.

Tf2 REALLY needs to be modernized
There have been so many improvements of the decade the game has exist an it doesn't really take advantage of any of them.
I mean, TF2 is timeless. It doesn't need to be modernized. If anything, trying to do that caused big problems

I think it would be nice to have a setting in this game to choose which hud the player can use so that people that like the vanilla TF2 hud can have that as an option with many other huds mostly because I am thinking out side of the box the *s&box* that is!

At this point everyone would be blown away with a TF2 fork that JUST actually gets proper updates and bugfixes, but add to that it's made on Source 2 ?! That's absolutely astounding! Gaben said before that piracy is the result of failing to make your product accessible and sell it properly. Well, to add to that, people remaking your games or making sequels of your games for you, is the result of failing to make and sell them yourself.
