The woman who did the solo was his background singer Rosemary Butler, who has an awesome voice and has sung with James Taylor and many other artists. The guy who played slide guitar and did the falsetto doo-wop vocal was David Lindley, a solo artist on his own.
Rosemary's voice hits like TNT. In later James Taylor shows, Arnold McCuller was the show-stealer and I couldn't believe when I saw Rosemary and Arnold singing together in some videos. You'd better make sure the building's foundations are strong enough for that.
David Lindley adds the falsetto vocals at the end and plays lap steel guitar on this song. David hooked up with Jackson for most of his music in the 1970s. Sadly, David passed away in March of last year.
The slide guitar and vibrato vocal were courtesy of the late, great David Lindley. He was a true master of stringed instruments, from the violin, mandolin, slide, and more.

My brother has been a driver for a tour entertainment company for almost 20 years and it's alot of hard work, long hours and even longer nights on the road. This song hits home and to acknowledge the crews is special.
This showcases the musical genius that is Jackson Brown as you’ve been discovering he is one of top lyricists and composers. The song’s tempo starts out slow and then picks up when he mentions the time they get to play in front of the audience, the time they look forward to all day. This coincides with the start of Craig Doerge’s on synthesizer. The late David Lindley who was playing the steel guitar provided that falsetto voice. After the “Load Out” they segue into the song “Stay” which was originally released in 1960 by the American group, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, and their version reached number one on the charts.
There's not much music, that hits you perfectly for decades. Exactly as it did the first time. But this song is one of those rare ones. I accredit that to his writing here. Just something that I don't even have a word for. What a wonderful song. It never lessens.

Hi Saeed. Jackson Browne really gets you in your feels with this one. He is telling it like it is. Without the roadies, there would be no show, and he is acknowledging that fact, and giving thanks to them for the hard work they do to bring the show together. Your take on this is spot on as it usually is with your reactions. Thanks to all who recommended it and thank you, Saeed for reacting to it. Much love and hugs to you and your family ❤️🫂😊
So great when legendary late pedal steel guitar virtuoso David Lindley goes into his falsetto voice. I remember the falsetto voice of Del Shannon in Runaway but probably you meant another song.
The Running On Empty album is a unique live album. Most of the time live albums are basically "greatest hits" records mostly there to fulfill contractual obligations to the record company. This record contained all new material for Jackson and was performed on stage, backstage, on the tour bus, and in hotel rooms. what you hear is exactly what went down when recorded with no studio enhancements or corrections. It's a truly great album and I'd recommend the entire album. JB always had great musicians. This band included the late great David Lindley (as others have mentioned), Leland Sklar on bass, Jim Gordon on drums...all legendary musicians. JB is a genius
Thanks Saeed...I remember singing this song for hours on in while in my bedroom during high school many, many years ago...it is amazing what a role music plays in everybody's lives...brought back many good memories😊
The "Stay" portion of the song was written by Maurice Williams in 1960 and recorded by several acts most famously by The Four Seasons I believe, but it fits in so well with the load out.

There was a story or interview with the Eagles years ago that was brilliant. I think it was Don Henley that said that Jackson Browne lived in a basement apartment below them. Said that he almost drove them crazy. He would play the same tune over and over, take a break for a cup of tea. Then play the same tune over and over again. They finally figured out that he was honing his craft, and that’s what they should be doing !! Something like that !! Great reaction as always !!
Such a melancholy song. You'd think fans wouldn't be able to relate to life on the road. But so many artists (Bob Seger "Turn the Page" ) are able to give us that feeling of being tired and uprooted, always on the go, to the point you don't know what city you're in. But Browne does a good job of combining the joy of performing with the drudgery of the road.
It dont mean anything, but, you mentioned Mr. Seger. I met him, several times. He would not remember. Just a bartender in a big club that Mr. Seger played, and i was high enough up in the stack to be able to work the hours of roadies and break down. Just came to tell you he is a kind, generous, soft spoken gentleman that took good care of his people. I will take with me the memory of his roadies getting to play on the mechanical bull, after the stage was cleared, and the busses were loaded. Gosh. It was 5 am. We were all tired. I thought the night would never end. The roadies wanted to try the bull, so a bar back cranked it up for them. Mr. Seger, exhausted, sat at the bar with me, smiling, while his “kids” played. It was a good ride home.
The whole Running On Empty album was an ode to touring and recorded while they were traveling, either live on stage or on busses or in hotel rooms, etc. The woman belting out that verse is Rosemary Butler. Thanks for another great reaction!

I reacted to Uneasy Rider, but i heard it has a sequel. Still need to check that one out. Thanks for watching.
I was in love with Rosemary Butler.
I was in love with Jackson Browne. sigh.......
@@JeanetteFaith Jackson sings pretty but not as pretty as Rosemary. 😂
@@randybaker6042 But Jackson is handsome, writes, and sings. I'll take Jackson and you can have Rosemary. In earlier albums, Bonnie Raitt was his female backup vocalist and was his opening act in 1974. (and Jackson had beautiful lips. lol)
@@JeanetteFaith , you taking Jackson and me taking Rosemary is a deal I can live with.
🤣
Appreciate your review! It'd be interesting to do a comparison between this, Bob Seger's Turn A Page, and The Warning's Hell You Call A Dream.
Havent heard that song by The Warning yet. Definitely need to check it out at some point.
Thanks for watching.
I loved George Carlin. His monologues were truth. Would years later prove fact. He was brilliant. ❤😂
So ahead of his time! I still watch his stuff! Some of his bits i know line by line 😅
Great reaction! Thank you so much as I was hoping you would find your way to this awesome video by JB❤️
Amazing performance! Thanks for watching.
