I am a trained singer. During our vocal technique lessons we had to do several excercises with using toungue, and feeling how it connects to the diafragm.
Great video...I really like the tongue out pointed toward ceiling (great work out and it's playful, like being a true kid). This is such a good reminder! Comments setion is excellent, too, including what top commenter said about roll/rub tongue in front and behind teeth is massaging organs. After doing tongue roll/rub, spectacular natural clear diction and the right words just come out when on phone or in meetings at work or talking out loud to myself brainstorming. Also, great for neck and jaw: I've been laying on my back with my head hanging over edge of bed and lifting my head up 50 times. I saw this tip on video about increasing blood to head for greater hair health; tip was by woman in her 70s who does it 100 times a day to keep looking 20 years younger.
Thanks again for great tips. Did you know that the teeth are related to many organs in the body and if you roll/rub the tongue to massage the gums in front of top teeth, behind top teeth, behind and infront of bottom teeth you are actually massaging the organs. Do this often..
You still have an energy body so there are energetic connections that still exist despite the removal of teeth. Energy workers work with phantom pain of missing limbs by working on the missing limb as though it is still there because there is still energy structure there.
My tongue resting at the roof of my mouth has been the game changer for my asthma /breathing in general and has allowed me to breathe more deeply whilst breathing efficiently via my nose . I’m well aware of the importance of my tongue (colour, tone, texture etc) as an indicator of the health of our bodies through years of Chinese Medicine TCM . Oh and great at keeping the tone of your jawline!! 🙏🏽
Great tips. I have been doing face yoga and tongue exercises every day for years and it's amazing how doing a different exercise hits the muscles in a totally different way. Thank you.
I thought about the Hindu god Kali when I saw you with your tongue sticking out 😛 . Perhaps Kali knew something about proper neck alignment Lol 😂. As a dental hygienist with a long history of chronic neck pain, I am fascinated, and am going to do these exercises. I also loved that you talked about chewing food using both sides of the mouth. The act of chewing has natural cleansing properties. I can easily discern when a patient chews on only one side of their mouth, because the neglected side will often have much more plaque and inflammation , compared to the other side.
Mewing! Yaay. Love these short vids. It's funny but the simplest habits (that the majority of us don't do or don't even know) are the most healthiest and preventative for our bodies. Thank you!
very useful, I have been struggling with my tongue repeatedly returning and exploring a tooth cavity, which was part of massive mouth trauma year ago, I now see how it may be linked to me breaking my back and C2 & 3 a few years ago, and would explain the neck aches and headaches, as the tongue is continually out of alignment while it creates the weird sensation in my mouth where the tooth is missing and the gum is concave after several surgeries, will be practicing this exercise - privately!! - thanks for putting yourself through this for us :)
I'm so grateful I found this today! At 30, I'm still trying to stop sucking my thumb and have always had a double chin AND thyroid issues. I started doing some improved alignment a year ago and it improved my singing and breathing! I'm hoping to heal my whole face and improve TMJ issues. What a beautiful start to my day!
My 14 year old son did this therapy for 12 months after having his tongue tie clipped (level 4) Do NOT wait to correct a tongue tie, do it at an early age. He’s a whole different human after the procedure ❤️
This is brilliant. Thank you. I have long had neck problems and have developed a sagging chin. These exercises will definitely be on my daily 'to do' list. Anymore tongue exercises would be most welcome. A much under-rated muscle. Can't think of life without it. Stay well.
Just doing this a bit has allowed me to swallow more freely again - which I knew was a struggle because of neck & tissue misalignment. Been a massage therapist for 20 years, just retired and now doing another job which is also messing up my neck and shoulders in a different way lol. I am absolutely elated and grateful to find you here! Many thanks 🙂🧡
I’m actually quite an amazing trained singer my whole 31 years of my own life that I’ve had been through such an emotional struggle for more like 10 years when I found out I was diagnosed with tonsillitis and I was in a very depressing stage for when I knew the thought of losing my voice forever was going to affect my whole singing career but I couldn’t had been so very lucky I came out of surgery but it probably effected me emotionally so much I thought I didn’t have the confidence in myself in my heart that I would’ve had been quite an amazing singer like any other artist in this world that I look up to on this earth
So grateful for this I like the simplicity of it and have incorporated this exercise it into my daily schedule will let you know the changes after a month or two but can already feel my alignment change with the conscious tongue placement and exercises ❤thanks for the education 🎉

Interesting, I'm new to Block Therapy and tried this exercise sticking out my tongue and holding it there - when I let my tongue go back inside my mouth it automatically 'docked' in the correct position. Doesn't stay there for very long so will continue with the exercise.
This is great progress Therese! Keep doing this exercise and over time you will notice your body pulling the neck and tongue back into correct alignment. Thank you for sharing!
I've been diagnosed with dysphagia. Was told it was caused by stress and hyper focusing. Tongue exercises were not even suggested. So this is cool. Glad you commented, gives me motivation!
Love this! I am always biting my tongue and lips while eating. I also choke on my saliva sometimes just laying down. I do have alot of tension in my neck as a massage therapist of 23 yrs. I am having some thyroid issues. Listening to this. I feel like this is my issue. I do yoga and do stretch the tongue with lion pose, fish pose, bow and camel but i think i will also include this. I definitely am always tight in my neck and shoulders. You are amazing! And we can all use a laugh more often. Thx
Note...what does alighment mean? Align the ears and neck over the center of the diaphram. Align the hips with a pelvic tilt as well and the tongue will stay still.
I just found your channel today and am obsessed! When I try to put my head back to put my tongue in there air…my neck hurts so very bad. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi there. I can't picture what you are doing. If you are simply practicing tongue placement, you should just be tucking the chin in slightly. Don't bend your neck back. Then place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. If it is touching the back of your front teeth you will want to bring it back about 1 cm. This may feel weird at first, but it doesn't take long to feel normal. As long as you are consciously checking where your tongue is at and correcting it, you will be on the right track.
Have you ever noticed that vegetarian animals that are large like a giraffe or a hippopotamus, know how to use their tongues to break off leaves to be able to eat. Imagine the strength that they have in their neck and tongue.
Are you meant to be breathing through the nose while sticking the tongue out? It seems the breath wants to go out through the mouth unless you close your lips on the tongue! Also it seems to make breathing from the diaphragm much more difficult. Is that normal? Thanks for addressing this, it's very interesting and may have something to do with a singing voice becoming very weak?!
It can be more difficult to begin as the tongue needs time to strengthen - you can breathe through your mouth initially, and notice as you work with this if it becomes easier to nose breathe.
May I ask should I rest my tongue at the hollow behind the ridge? This seems quite far back. I read about mewing and the position of the tongue is behind or just touching the front teeth. Which is better please

I would think any exercise for the tongue would be good. You could also try opening your mouth and just stick your tongue out and hold for a count of 10. Relax, then do it again. Repeat 10 times.
Hi, thank you for reaching out. I absolutely understand. Depending on our alignment, it may be very difficult to align the tongue properly. Focusing on alignment farther down, such as keeping the ribcage lifted, the shoulders back, and the lower body rooted and solid, may help position things better. If there is simply too much tension, do not try to hold 100% of the time. You may practice in short intervals and hopefully be able to hold for longer over time! I hope this helps!
Interesting! That may mean that just like any other exercise, it is something that needs work. Give your muscles a rest and then try again, on a regular basis, maybe daily or every couple of days, and see how it feels over time. You're welcome to update us as you go!
Hi, yes, it is but be aware of how it feels. If it causes tension or pain, it may be better to focus on other things first, namely the alignment of your ribcage as the foundation. This should help bring the neck and jaw back into better alignment and make it easier to align the tongue. I hope this answers your question!
I find this much easier to do if I close my lips around my stuck-out tongue. That way I can easily breathe through my nose too. Otherwise my throat and lips get too dry. Would I still get benefits doing it this way?
Thank you. Another question I have is related to the “exact” or “approximate” positioning of the block for the various routines. After doing the first 8 videos in the starter program, I have a feeling that I could trust my ability to “find” areas on my body that “need” the pressure and just put the block there. A version of intuitive yoga. Would that be risky in any way? Please advise. Thank you so much. I absolutely love Block Therapy!
Hi! Yes, it does seem like a strange exercise, I understand! This will help to stretch and release the muscles around the tongue in the neck, as well as strengthen the tongue in the action of lifting to the roof of the mouth. I hope this clarifies!
